In the past, our team would watch hours upon hours of games that Nessler and Herbstreit called on television, writing lines of scripted commentary that were meant to be in the voice of our talent. We’ve realized that no matter how much tape you watch we were never going to be able to predict how Nessler, and specifically Herbstreit as an analyst, will react and call a situation as it unfolds on the field. Scripting for the two takes away their ability to put events into their own words and provide personal inflections—a key component to capturing a true broadcast sound.

It is because of this that NCAA Football 13 will mark the first year that we’ve moved away from attempting to write scripts for our talent. The process now involves working in the studio with the talent to paint a picture of the game situation and allow them tell the story in their own words. We want both Brad and Kirk to feel like they are in a booth on a Saturday night, and even pump in crowd noise and fight songs into their headphones to get them into the moment.

The last surprise for lighting and rendering that I have for you is motion blur. This is a feature that we’ve wanted to develop for several cycles, and now we’ve finally been able to include it for you. The addition of motion blur has helped the representation of the animation feel more natural, in addition to the new animations and hard work the team has put into game play. As our players or cameras move through space rapidly, you’ll notice the edge of the player softens as well as the surrounding textures.

The same technology used by the Tiger Woods PGA TOUR team to scan Augusta National for the inclusion of The Masters in that game series is also being used in NCAA Football 13 this year to capture the intricate details of some of the brand-new stadiums for FBS play this coming fall; in particular, the new home fields for Florida Atlantic University and North Texas have both been scanned into this year’s game as incredibly faithful virtual reproductions of the real thing. The level of detail for these new stadiums is jaw-dropping, and I can imagine people using FAU and North Texas just to get a highly-accurate digital preview of the new venues before the season starts.

Most of you do realize that they have nothing to do with gameplay right? Yes, Motion Blur is a common thing in many video games, doesn't mean they can't let us know that NCAA finally has it.

They also didn't touch on animations, which either a) means they aren't responsible for doing them, or b) they're not discussing animations yet.

This is the first playbook, and people are bitching about things already that have nothing to do with this one.

When doesn't it self destruct for pre-release info. Check how many people show up to bash the game that never post anywhere else or anytime else besides pre-release hype. Happens every year.

Dual threat QBs aren't dangerous......Hell the play makers aren't even dangerous. How is it you can have a play maker WR but yet the ball only gets thrown to him twice in a game ? But yet the scrub TE get passed to 15 times a game ?
The logic behind the game design on special teams is weird. I believe i read somewhere that they don't to bad snaps on punts and FG's because gamers don't want the game decided by a bad snap? what? really? Ok i guess, but explain WHY gamers can't get a legit punt return or kickoff return or punt block or FG block without reorting to glitchy tactics. Hell, being a fan of Rutgers (and i'm sure VT fans would agree too) that punt blocks are a BIG thing when it comes to momentum swings and wins/losses. "Gamers don't want a punt mishap to cost them the game". Ok. stop making the game to appeal to the mass online casual crowd.

The Slot receiver thing is another thing that bugs me. If i remember right that issue even goes back to the PS2 days. I know there was one year in madden if you double teamed the slot receivers/tight ends then and ONLY then would the CPU actually throw it outside. They were hardwired to abuse the TE and slot receivers no matter what. Double the TE and the slot guy on the other side would get 15 catches. Don't get me started on runner logic which ALWAYS has something broken every year.

That being said, i'm sure i'll end up buying it eventually if i hear some of the issues i have with the game are fixed (kinda)

I just listened to the Florida State samples. WOW, what a difference. There is going to be a big difference in the sound of the game this year.

For what feels like the hundredth time...how can anyone be complaining about gameplay and animations from a 15 second clip of an unpolished product? All we saw as of now is what they showed us in the SIGHTS AND SOUNDS webcast, and I think most of us would agree in saying that stuff was pretty promising. Wait until April 17th before you start incoherently bashing the gameplay and animations.

Exactly. Let's focus on what's being presented to us, guys. If you, as a poster, cannot do this and address what's in front of you, just don't post at all and save it for later. The "RAA, ME ANGRY" stuff is just so old at this point.

Promising start, but this isn't the meat of the game for most of us.

Sights and Sounds doesn't sell me on the game, but it certainly doesn't hurt their chances either.

What was cool is that they were open to taking sound in a new direction. I think that will make a big difference in the game.

I hope they put as much (and more) effort into gameplay and dynasty & recruiting. Looking forward to hearing about the "meat" of the game!

Inductive reasoning.

Hume's got a great critique of it, but it's never failed me before...

Definitely understand and feel what you're saying, but seeing all this stuff for so long, there has never been a huge difference in what we see early in these type of videos, and what we see later. I definitely agree that we should wait until the 17th, but I can't blame people for being disappointed or skeptical.

A huge "meh" Was this supposed to get us excited?

Sure, the lighting/textures will look nice & the crowds might sound better, but the main points here being motion blur (is this need for speed?) and USC Song Girls does not bode well. Where is the improvement on ESPN? Halftime anything? Situational crowd sounds? More info on how Kirk/Nessler will be better? And how many years are they gonna talk about dynamic lighting?

I realize it's "early" but lets look at this:
  • Running animations are still really, really bad
  • I'm guessing no new cleats/equipment
  • The football, from what I can see is still gigantic
  • Sidelines have not been touched
  • Player models are still huge/bulky

Motion Blur lol

It's how it usually goes. They throw a fresh coat of paint on top and everything goes gaga. Then when the paint starts to peel we see the final product. The same game since 2010 lol.

When the announcer announced the score, it still sounded very robotic.

I love how we get blogs about sights and sounds, and some people start to complain about things that are completely unrelated to the blogs, like player animations and things they haven't gotten around to showing yet.

Thank you! I don't get how you guys are getting this secret footage of the NCAA 13 running animations and gameplay...I'd love to know where that is! That stuff hasn't been released to the public yet. Oh? You're referring to the 5 seconds of a clip meant to focus on the presentation of awards that quickly flashed what you think is gameplay? Seriously guys...calm down until the 17th, as Broncos said earlier, all this "ME ANGRY...NCAA Y U SUCK SO MUCH?!?!?!?!?!" is really getting old, and isn't warranted.

I'm all for being critical, but how can you be critical of what you haven't seen yet? All we have to be critical of is the Sights and Sounds webcast, which showed me a lot of good things and that the series is headed in the right direction (with the sound at least.)

I see where you are coming from and I used to feel the same way. However, I can see you are new to this site. Those of us who have been here for a long time have seen this all before. Promises of "its an early build" and "work in progress" dont cut it any more. They say the same things year after year and everytime we are let down when the final product is the same or WORSE then what they were previously showing. Then the developers begin their "we ran out of time, wait until next year!"

I signed up to this website in 2006 and used to love following the development of Madden. I used to get so excited at every little bit of information that came out. As consumers you can only buy into the hype so many times before you get fed up.

I believe that the foundation of the game was rushed to push out Madden '06 in the first year if next-gen. Since then they have been trying to build on that very flawed foundation but it is just to archaic and flawed to make a good game. My hope is that EA is already full steam ahead developing a new game engine for the new XBOX and Playstation coming out in the next year or two. The developers are not stupid and they know this generation of football games has been a complete disaster. I truly hope they do not let this happen again.....

Exactly. You can see how long I've been here as well. I'm always hopeful, but I've seen this show before. Especially on this generation. I'm waiting on the 17th for the real info, but the look(animations) in the game is one of my biggest issues, seems like they haven't changed much. Even if it's just a small clip.

Will April 17 go against the grain and provide for once, some in depth discussion about Gameplay?

Interesting that Nothing about Camera Views to capture all this Sights (Visual) stuff they're marketing.

Ummmm, Broadcast Cam or User Defined Camera would have been perfect in this playbook, but won't be surprised if neither is available again.

Was hoping the uniforms/players would be as crisp as in Madden '12.

What was I thinking?

Still waiting for some type of WOW factor from this developer.
