This sounds absolutely fantastic, and as a person who loves the MLB computer games without having the real-life desire to watch the sport (go Cards, I guess) or the time to sit through a 162-game season for the thrill of progression, rookies, etc. this is right up my alley.

Unfortunately, I've been wounded far too many times by the likes of FUT to have much faith in humanity and the inevitable attempts by people to school the system. However enticing you make the concept of building stars, I'd need to know the following things before I dipped my toes and import tax laden pounds in the water:

* Do you start with x amount of money to buy packs? As in, would it be possible for someone to set up a dummy account, then continually buy cards off the other account for peanuts, then recycle them all to get top MLB stars, or similarly keep creating dummy accounts to overpay for rubbish?
* Is there a way to buy your way to an eternal top team, however much money it cost? I've seen people drop 100 pounds on FUT cards on the first day it starts, so nothing would surprise me.
* What happens when someone inevitably rage quits, in regards to wins / losses, games played by your players, etc? Also, what happens to your stats for the MVP scores as a result?
* If you win every game on the top difficulty, is it possible to just continually play with an All-Star MLB team by buying MLB packs with the winnings?

Sorry if I sound incredibly cynical, it's just this mode was clearly used in other titles as a lucrative cash grab that they claim offers a brilliant experience but very quickly degenerates into everyone plays the best team possible - and if I wanted that, I'd select play now. I need to know it has the deep, captivating mode logistics behind it and not the TCG logistics.

I loved the gum that used to come in baseball card packs. Big League Chew became a favourite too.

How does this work in regards to picking award winners for the seasons and divisions? Let's say I have a great team that is able to beat 4/5 opponents 10-0 by the 4th inning and people keep quitting. Does this take away a game for them? If so, then some of these guys will never be eligible for one of the awards because they wouldn't have the ability to accumulate stats like some other players.

I've read the last few pages and did see these questions asked:

1. Is it possible to have duplicate players on the same team? Like if I buy two MLB packs and both of them improbably have Adrian Gonzalez.

2. Will be able to able to edit our custom teams at any time after playing? If I get tired of being, say, the Jacksonville Horses I can decide to become the Tokyo Robots?

Good question....
I'm sure there are things that will have to be figured out as they go along and things like this pop up(I'm NOT saying this doesn't have a solution already)....
This is also a good question in this situation as to whether it counts as a "game played".(quits against you)

Yes it is actually. But you are locked into his positions.
To be honest....I was a little "against" this one....but it is what it is.

We haven't heard on this yet(I don't think)
I'm hoping no on this....only because guys might be all over the place on this....renaming their teams and such every other game. It could get annoying.

That gum had the consistency of a cracker, lol. You would bite it and it would shatter into a million pieces. I wonder how much ink I ingested eating all the gum when I was younger.

LOL, so true. But there was something about it that made you want more.
I LOVED the smell of opening new pack. And the cards even retained some of the smell as well.

Is card collecting even 'in' anymore?

Maybe with all these HUT, FUT, DD modes, the kids of this generation will start getting back into it.
My youngest loves looking through some of the old hockey cards I still have. Not sure if that'll stick though.

What I'm most worried about for this mode is the vast number of gameplay options that are available in the Show and how that might negatively impact people who don't play with defaults ...

For example, in MLB 11, I found the default pitch speed far too fast for me... I zero it out .... I assume slider adjustments won't be possible in Diamond Dynasty, so I'll have to adjust.

Also, I don't like to use guess pitch, but not using it when someone else is, will obviously create a disadvantage.

Likewise, I like to use the analog batting, but presumably people will still have the choice to play with just button-based hitting, and they will have an advantage in that respect.

You set up your online criteria in your settings. When you go online to play it will match you up with an opponent who has the closest settings. Obviously the more criteria you set up the harder it is to match you up. So I would put the things that are most important to you when playing an online opponent to match up with.

Cant we create multiple dynasties if we keep them off of online play? I know Russell said one per psn account but wasn't sure if that was just for the online play aspect.

I believe it is just one!

You can only activate one of them. So you would either have to wait until the first Gonzo has been used up or recycle him from another player.

Yup
Honestly this isn't a big deal to me because you just shelve the second Gonzo and it's basically like getting him for double the time. Just think of it as you signed him to a longer contract or something!

You should be able to sell the extra card as well.

I'm planning on creating the Montreal Expos, so I think it would be cool if I could export them into exhibition mode and then load up a historic roster and play as them.

Also I see their is a hof and stats tracking, but is there going to be a list of teams from certain era's you had that has the roster listed?

For example let's say the first 20 games you play as one created team like the Montreal Expos then all of the players you had who came up through the system are getting old and retired. Then you decide to change the team to the Louisville Sluggers, would they're be a list to see all of the teams you created or to see the most successful teams you had?

Unfortunately, no. There is definitely hope and much potential for next year and beyond though.

# 277 LastActionHero @ 02/16/12 05:18 AM
I hope that makes its way in 13.
Same goes for uploading created uniforms to the vault.
Man the possibilities are endless and oh so exciting!

Is there any chance (and maybe this has been discussed already) that the demo will let us try this out?

Not sure but I would be surprised if you could even get into the mode on a demo.

# 280 statnut @ 02/16/12 11:30 AM
I only ask because both Madden and NHL have had a playable demo of their Ultimate Team modes in the demos, and rewarded users with a bonus card(s) or pack(s).
