Having direct access to those who make the game help - that's for sure.

But for the most part, the group brought in is extremely knowledgeable about the game BEFORE they are given direct access; It's impressive to be around.

I'm a switch-hitter, and this statement certainly does not apply to me.

LOL well Chipper Jones has two different stances as well. They are similar (and yes, mine is similar as well), but he doesn't try to replicate it on both sides. Same with Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

Basically, with the simple fact that I can't rotate my wrists counter-clockwise (looking from the knob of the bat), it automatically forces me to not have the same stance (because that would change my load, which would then change my swing). I just do what's comfortable for both sides for me. There's a standard idea behind both of them that are the same, but different rhythms and such. It helps me differentiate both sides of the plate, which helps me be more successful in the end. I think Nick Swisher talks about separating his approaches from both sides of the plate as well (helps him identify his strengths/weaknesses), though his stance is pretty similar from both sides.

Just sayin' all switch-hitters are a little off.

I thought there's something about hitting from one side that causes certain tendencies compared to from the other side. Like many left-handed hitters love driving pitches low, which you don't see as often from right-handed hitters... that could be a myth, but... Also, there's some benefit for LHB taking off to 1B right after making contact, while doing so as RHB may just increase HBP, lol.

Isn't it generally the case that switch hitters have different stances though?

I have a different stance and approach from the left-hand (my stronger) side, as well, though I rarely bat right handed anymore, anyway.

Regarding the "surprise" Nemesis was referring to ..... I never got a response in regard to one of my predictions.

One of my guesses was that there would be region-specific cover athletes for the game. Now that Joey Bautista is gracing the cover in Canada I wonder if I'm on to something.

Nem???

Yes, nemesis also said that again in the Bautista trailer thread. Even still, there must be a reason for Hamilton to be at the studio...

I won't rule out premium avatars and themes until that idea is also rebuked.

And Nem just said that the other athletes may be used in other ways ... perhaps tied to something geographic? Or position?

I think I win for getting the closest. I'll crown myself on Nem's behalf.

What I've learned from this thread outside of MLB The Show:

A lot of OS'ers are switch-hitters, including myself.

Well...
I can hit the ball, pretty well, from either side of the plate.
But I'm no switch hitter.(not that there is anything wrong with that)

I switch hit as well (naturally lefty), but I have never been a good hitter either way. Always been a pitcher. I'm the guy that you want in the AL only.

Do you have a good backdoor breaking ball?

# 439 Bobhead @ 01/31/12 10:22 PM
backdoor.... switch hitting... so hard to resist urges to make jokes...

So anyway... if this cover thing ends up being true I would hope I get Evan Longoria or something, because I really could do without having to see a Marlin on the cover of my game.

The truth is... there are only 2 covers.
