Madden 12 News Post

Hello Madden Fans – We have been working hard monitoring issues seen in Madden NFL 12 and identifying fixes to include in title update #2. While we do not have a date to share yet, I can tell you that the update has already made it through our own internal certification process and has been sent off to first party. Pending first party approval, here is what you can expect to see in Title Update #2:

Custom Playbooks have seen a lot of use this year, but there were a few bugs that some users pointed out that we have fixed.
  • Fixed an issue where newly added sets would create their own formation category instead of grouping them in the same Set and Formation they were being added to. This should reduce some clutter in your playbooks going forward.
  • Fixed rare issue where some placeholder text would show up if you removed the last play for all game situations.
  • Fixed an issue where gameplans that had 0 plays in them would cause players to bundle together on the field. This was always avoidable by not setting 0 plays in your gameplan, but in the future this is prevented.
  • Fixed an issue in Madden Ultimate Team where your Ultimate Team playbook would get replaced with your default playbook (per your "My Settings").
Unfortunately, every year there are players that simply look for Exploits in the game and then use them in online head-to-head matches. We've been actively monitoring and cleaning up the leaderboards of clear egregious exploiters. We've also fixed bugs that allowed Exploits to happen.
  • Similar to an issue above, users could create a gameplan with 0 plays, which would then cause players to bundle up at the line of scrimmage and force an encroachment on the defense. This has been fixed.
  • Fixed an issue where users could pause the game with three seconds left in a quarter causing a lock up to occur. When the other player left the game the other would get a win.
Gameplay
  • (Cover 4) - Safeties with Inside Deep ¼ zone drop back instead of read-n-react on Run plays.
  • If the CPU tries to run down the play clock (late in halves) and runs an auto-motion play, they will not start the play early enough or hike the ball before the play clock expires as the player is still in motion.
  • Tuned down the frequency to block field goals by users running off the edge.
  • When a two-point conversion is booth reviewed and ruled no good, the game clock will run while selecting a play on kickoff.
  • Fixed issue when teams ran a QB Sneak the QB would get a speed burst.
  • Fixed issue when a user aims the L-Stick in any direction and pump fakes (using RB/R1 defenders in a QA Spy assignment) that will immediately blitz the QB, leaving defensive assignments.
  • Fixed issue where live balls on muffed punts that are recovered in the end zone were resulting in a touchback rather than a safety.
Madden Ultimate Team
  • Fixed an issue where users were awarded coins when their friends quit out of a head-to-head game.
  • Fixed a situation where user with a maxed out deck could get locked up in the My Trades screen.
  • Fixed issue where previous MUT fans could not earn the "This one is easy" achievement/trophy for creating their MUT team in Madden NFL 12.
  • Removed an exploit where a MUT player grieve another player through encroachments and other penalties but not lose contract time from their players. They would also receive coins.
General Issues
  • Fixed several of the most common crashes and online disconnection issues for both platforms.
  • Optimized performance in "Play Now" team select to prevent slow down/hitching when scrolling teams
  • Improved the online leaderboards to be more accurate.
  • Fixed several issues with commentary and PA.
  • Addressed issue where users with large amounts of save data sometimes could not get into online head-to-head games.
  • Lowered the frequency of rain games in Franchise Mode.
  • Improved the field's texture on PS3.
  • The 'recent games' section for head-to-head games uses the wrong colors for winner & loser. This issue has been addressed.
  • Fixed issue where a user only appears as online in the Communities Member List if they're inside the community feature.
  • Fixed issue where in Franchise, editing a player will remove their player roles.
  • Fixed issue where when the maximum number of entrants for a room has been reached, after a user leaves the room, they'll be taken to a new room when they try to reenter it.

it shouldn't leave there hands until everything looked and played right from the beginning. technically we shouldn't have to worry about patches for issues. there shouldn't be any.

I wonder do they randomize gear for draftees just like they randomize draft classes? Or does some geek actually think some of this stuff looks cool?

As for the player proportions and shoulder pads,.........guess well have to wait until next year, at which time something else will be absolutely ridiculous, which well have to wait until the next year to be fixed....and so on and so forth......

I swear they do this on purpose....job security

Not a sports game I own on the consoles that is released on a yearly basis that doesn't come out with patches.

So, it's not just specific to Madden only.

In year 3 of my Steelers franchise, looks like I won't have to restart after all.

Believe me, I'm not sticking up for EA, but everything will have some sort of bug in it. The three constants..

Death, Taxes, and Bugs

I have seen some wonky rookie cuts....but nothing game breaking.

Yes you need 32 team control to get ultra realistic roster management and avoid some CPU mishaps. But overall franchise mode is so much better now than it ever has been on this gen.

But go over to the NBA 2K12 forum....same crap. Total uproar about wonky cpu AI decision making in Association mode. Same for MLB The Show and on and on and on.

I am having a blast.

Too bad the game is "broken" for some.
I would love to play franchise. I think the gameplay is awesome. To be honest I rarely if ever nit pick that stuff, it's a video game it's not going to be totally realistic. But I've done 2 franchises and both were killed by the IR bug. I'm sorry but when you are no longer able to advance to the next week and have to totally start over because the CPU AI can't figure out how to fix their roster and the franchise becoems locked up, that's a pretty big problem.

I fail to see the logic behind your statement and the reason is because your statement is not logical.

The CPU AI (simulated) is making outright foolish decisions consistently (not sporadically) with UDFA's and young talented players with upside. There is no merit to the statement that playing games in the 3D game engine has any bearing whatsoever on simulated activity outside of the 3D game engine. \

If the issue doesn't impact your personal enjoyment, then so be it. But don't come on here acting as if people should put duct tape over their eyes and pretend that REAL issues simply don't exist.

This is a good, solid updated.

I wanted the big should pads and arms fixed for imported draft class. Man!!!!!!!!!!

# 88 ghettoqball @ 10/07/11 07:33 PM
For whatever reason, I enjoy doing sim franchises more than I actually like playing the game. With the UDFA issue, I don't even want to start a franchise. I have no desire to control all 32 teams. In what was supposed to be the year of the franchise, I can't even get into franchise mode.

This patch doesn't do anything for me. CPU cut logic needs to be fixed.

It's not specific to sports titles either, every game gets patches these days.

I wont say I wont purchase NCAA and Madden next year but I can pretty much guarantee I wont preorder. Im gonna wait until all the real issues hit the fan to see if it is worth the purchase. The problem with Madden and what has been this generation is that they dont build on what is already there. If they just keep adding to the good and take out the bad they will have a great game...this is why 2k is so successful. We dont want to have a new formula every year or some new stupid feature we just want you to build and what we already enjoy...

Believe me I hear you and I do agree. I don't like the fact I have to have 32 team control. But I love playing console football, it is an addiction and damn it I will do this to make it work for me.

But seriously I am with you. It should not have to be this way. Case and point is NCAA 12. I am in year 4. I don't worry about the other 100 plus teams in the game. I just focus on my school.

I wish Madden had this aspect down. We can only hope and wish that they can tighten up the franchise AI decision making.

Until then I lose an extra 4-5 hours of my life micro managing the other 31 teams. As I am a gamer who plays at least 4-5 seasons per franchise on Madden. I insist on getting my $$$ worth and getting at least 2 years out of my sports games. Madden up until 2007 was the only sports game I purchased each and every year.

I learned over the years and years of sports video gaming not to buy them every year. But Madden was special for me for a long time.

Madden 10 11 and 12 has been a progression IMO and I hope 13 builds upon the great improvements in Franchise mode and fine tunes things.

No mention of a fix for the random popping noise for PS3 users???

If that's still there post patch .

edit: Or maybe that falls under: "Fixed several issues with commentary and PA".

I be happy about QB Sneak.

# 97 JT2111 @ 10/07/11 11:07 PM
I am very disappointed in this patch not addressing the UDFA's issue. The best analogy I can come up with for this game is the game is the Cubs and we are the fans. We care so much about the game but as usual...wait til next year...

# 98 Jmaneb @ 10/07/11 11:08 PM
Frustrating. Once I heard about the UDFA issue, I was no longer interested in playing Franchise, hoping a patch would fix it. Now I'm not sure what to do because I never return games.

# 99 Thelorn @ 10/07/11 11:51 PM
Glad they're fixing the rain issue, just wish they would of said if we needed to restart franchise or not for it to take effect. :/

Funny, I don't feel that way about NBA 2K12. I didn't feel that way about FIFA. It's not sports gaming that's the problem right now... it's Madden and NCAA and the same ol' problems every year.
