Madden 12 News Post

Hello Madden Fans – We have been working hard monitoring issues seen in Madden NFL 12 and identifying fixes to include in title update #2. While we do not have a date to share yet, I can tell you that the update has already made it through our own internal certification process and has been sent off to first party. Pending first party approval, here is what you can expect to see in Title Update #2:

Custom Playbooks have seen a lot of use this year, but there were a few bugs that some users pointed out that we have fixed.
  • Fixed an issue where newly added sets would create their own formation category instead of grouping them in the same Set and Formation they were being added to. This should reduce some clutter in your playbooks going forward.
  • Fixed rare issue where some placeholder text would show up if you removed the last play for all game situations.
  • Fixed an issue where gameplans that had 0 plays in them would cause players to bundle together on the field. This was always avoidable by not setting 0 plays in your gameplan, but in the future this is prevented.
  • Fixed an issue in Madden Ultimate Team where your Ultimate Team playbook would get replaced with your default playbook (per your "My Settings").
Unfortunately, every year there are players that simply look for Exploits in the game and then use them in online head-to-head matches. We've been actively monitoring and cleaning up the leaderboards of clear egregious exploiters. We've also fixed bugs that allowed Exploits to happen.
  • Similar to an issue above, users could create a gameplan with 0 plays, which would then cause players to bundle up at the line of scrimmage and force an encroachment on the defense. This has been fixed.
  • Fixed an issue where users could pause the game with three seconds left in a quarter causing a lock up to occur. When the other player left the game the other would get a win.
Gameplay
  • (Cover 4) - Safeties with Inside Deep ¼ zone drop back instead of read-n-react on Run plays.
  • If the CPU tries to run down the play clock (late in halves) and runs an auto-motion play, they will not start the play early enough or hike the ball before the play clock expires as the player is still in motion.
  • Tuned down the frequency to block field goals by users running off the edge.
  • When a two-point conversion is booth reviewed and ruled no good, the game clock will run while selecting a play on kickoff.
  • Fixed issue when teams ran a QB Sneak the QB would get a speed burst.
  • Fixed issue when a user aims the L-Stick in any direction and pump fakes (using RB/R1 defenders in a QA Spy assignment) that will immediately blitz the QB, leaving defensive assignments.
  • Fixed issue where live balls on muffed punts that are recovered in the end zone were resulting in a touchback rather than a safety.
Madden Ultimate Team
  • Fixed an issue where users were awarded coins when their friends quit out of a head-to-head game.
  • Fixed a situation where user with a maxed out deck could get locked up in the My Trades screen.
  • Fixed issue where previous MUT fans could not earn the "This one is easy" achievement/trophy for creating their MUT team in Madden NFL 12.
  • Removed an exploit where a MUT player grieve another player through encroachments and other penalties but not lose contract time from their players. They would also receive coins.
General Issues
  • Fixed several of the most common crashes and online disconnection issues for both platforms.
  • Optimized performance in "Play Now" team select to prevent slow down/hitching when scrolling teams
  • Improved the online leaderboards to be more accurate.
  • Fixed several issues with commentary and PA.
  • Addressed issue where users with large amounts of save data sometimes could not get into online head-to-head games.
  • Lowered the frequency of rain games in Franchise Mode.
  • Improved the field's texture on PS3.
  • The 'recent games' section for head-to-head games uses the wrong colors for winner & loser. This issue has been addressed.
  • Fixed issue where a user only appears as online in the Communities Member List if they're inside the community feature.
  • Fixed issue where in Franchise, editing a player will remove their player roles.
  • Fixed issue where when the maximum number of entrants for a room has been reached, after a user leaves the room, they'll be taken to a new room when they try to reenter it.

That's the problem people. A & B potential important draft picks get cut in leiu of UDFA's.
I can't disagree. I have 32 team control and had to reverse a few awful cuts the CPU made to keep some UFDA.

Since I do use 32 team control I am managing my way through it. But it is a true royal pain in the arse to say the least.

I love the game. It is no doubt my all time favorite Madden title ever made but it is by no means perfect and still has some glaring AI warts.

I hope EA can improve the logic for 13 big time.

It would be awesome if commentary now reacts correctly to plays, announce different players as key players, and PA announcer announces the actual players during the introductions!

I don't want to be that guy, but it's truly sad when it's "awesome" that basic fundamental features of a sports video game work as intended.

That's great and all, but still no mention of how terrible the imported players look.

No kidding, players looking like TRANSFORMERS didnt get realized??? Disappointed overall, cpu offensive AI didnt get touched either I guess, same thing every year, the hype just leads to a bigger let down.

I gotta concur with this. I had high hopes for this patch and I'm, frankly, let down by the gameplay content. There was a looooooonngg thread on the lack of DE pressure that couldn't have been missed. Year after year, this is the one thing I keep hoping Madden gets right. But looking at the way I've seen it done in other games, it's probably going to take a dedicated development cycle of redesigning it from scratch to get it where it should be.

Hopefully it's addressed in the tuner, along with one or two other things like accel clock in franchise, but who knows. Not fixing the accel. clock is a big one for thos of us that like 15 min quarters.

by year 3, if I wanted I could sign vince young, cedric benson, ahmad bradshaw, mendenhal, sean lee, aj hawk, chris gamble, michael jenkins etc. for league minimum since they never get picked up.

"The year of the franchise" has degenerated into A) you control all 32 teams because the cpu AI is non-existent, B) you don't care about realism/don't have the time, or C) Don't franchise at all.

With all the cool features they added it is a tragedy that it ended up like this. They seem to think the UDFA issue isn't even something that needs to be addressed but when it results in teams' marquee players rotting in FA obscurity THAT is a problem. And so on, and so on.

Wow, so Franchise is still a complete waste of time? Thanks EA! I see they did nothing to improve franchise AI or fix the IR glitch that killed your franchise whenever you hit it.

This is literally the biggest thing I had a problem with I mean how is EA looking at the imports appearance and thinking they look ok??? Guess I gotta wait for Madden 13 *sigh*

I imagine this may go unnoticed to many, but as a 'coach mode' gamer, it is a glaring issue.
This is another thing that needs to be tweaked. It's starting to get on my nerves because it is so random. I can't find any commonality in what triggers it; fatigue, ratings, etc. Sometimes, my DB will play the ball in the air and swat with perfect timing, other times they'll just stop with his back to the LOS as the ball hangs in the air and watch as the WR turns and leaps for the pass.

If they are to address the weather issue, why not fix the wind effects. I'm kicking 50 yard FG's with 19 mph wind with ease. The wind in this game has no effect on the projectory of the ball. If it's supposed to be high winds at places like Heinz Field, Soldier Field or Browns Stadium which can have lake-effect winds, kicking should not be as easy. I wish they would address this. I'm glad that they're fixing the rain.

I am sorry. But this is waaaaay overblown. Have you played it? Meaning not sim through seasons...just play it.

I have seen some wonky rookie cuts....but nothing game breaking.

Yes you need 32 team control to get ultra realistic roster management and avoid some CPU mishaps. But overall franchise mode is so much better now than it ever has been on this gen.

But go over to the NBA 2K12 forum....same crap. Total uproar about wonky cpu AI decision making in Association mode. Same for MLB The Show and on and on and on.

I am having a blast.

Too bad the game is "broken" for some.

I have stopped playing this game, has the issue(maybe not an issue) where the play "Four Verticles" the AI can't defend the inside receiver?

If there is going to be a cheese play, it should be a 2 yard throw not a 30 yard seem route

Once it's out of EA's hands, it needs to go through testing and certification at Sony or MS. It's out of EA's hands at this point.

Maybe a tuner, Taz, we can hope.

One of the early Maddens on the Sega Genesis had great wind effects. The wind would actually vary mph through out the game. You actually had to change your gameplan up if it was too windy. You could forget about long bombs or long field goals and even punting was effected. Anyone else remember that ? or was is it just a dream I had ? lol Next gen huh

listen i understand where you are coming from with controlling all 32 teams. i do this now, the fact of the matter is that we shouldn't have to do this. the game should work as it is intended or else don't put out the game. if you went to a steakhouse and ordered a steak cooked medium you shouldn't get a steak cooked rare and expect to cook it the rest of the way. you would send it back, and if that couldn't be done you would take your money elsewhere. they say true to the game, bigger deeper etc... well make good on the promises and stop giving us these unfinished products. i'm tired of having to come up with all of these workarounds just to make the game playable. this is ridiculous and it's gone on for too long.

Less rain games is awesome!

On update #3, just update commentary, fix random pops, and fix the franchise multi season scrubs issue & we got ourselves a game tha FINALLY I can put 2k5 to rest.

Madden 13 give us custom stadium music, and better challenge system, & fix the ice skating & I'll be a happy gamer!
rain issue was a must, i just don't get how you can focus on the visual of the field and overlook the visuals of the players on the field with skinny legs, big butts, huge spikey shoulder pads, disproportional bodies.
