Madden 12 News Post

Hello Madden Fans – We have been working hard monitoring issues seen in Madden NFL 12 and identifying fixes to include in title update #2. While we do not have a date to share yet, I can tell you that the update has already made it through our own internal certification process and has been sent off to first party. Pending first party approval, here is what you can expect to see in Title Update #2:

Custom Playbooks have seen a lot of use this year, but there were a few bugs that some users pointed out that we have fixed.
  • Fixed an issue where newly added sets would create their own formation category instead of grouping them in the same Set and Formation they were being added to. This should reduce some clutter in your playbooks going forward.
  • Fixed rare issue where some placeholder text would show up if you removed the last play for all game situations.
  • Fixed an issue where gameplans that had 0 plays in them would cause players to bundle together on the field. This was always avoidable by not setting 0 plays in your gameplan, but in the future this is prevented.
  • Fixed an issue in Madden Ultimate Team where your Ultimate Team playbook would get replaced with your default playbook (per your "My Settings").
Unfortunately, every year there are players that simply look for Exploits in the game and then use them in online head-to-head matches. We've been actively monitoring and cleaning up the leaderboards of clear egregious exploiters. We've also fixed bugs that allowed Exploits to happen.
  • Similar to an issue above, users could create a gameplan with 0 plays, which would then cause players to bundle up at the line of scrimmage and force an encroachment on the defense. This has been fixed.
  • Fixed an issue where users could pause the game with three seconds left in a quarter causing a lock up to occur. When the other player left the game the other would get a win.
Gameplay
  • (Cover 4) - Safeties with Inside Deep ¼ zone drop back instead of read-n-react on Run plays.
  • If the CPU tries to run down the play clock (late in halves) and runs an auto-motion play, they will not start the play early enough or hike the ball before the play clock expires as the player is still in motion.
  • Tuned down the frequency to block field goals by users running off the edge.
  • When a two-point conversion is booth reviewed and ruled no good, the game clock will run while selecting a play on kickoff.
  • Fixed issue when teams ran a QB Sneak the QB would get a speed burst.
  • Fixed issue when a user aims the L-Stick in any direction and pump fakes (using RB/R1 defenders in a QA Spy assignment) that will immediately blitz the QB, leaving defensive assignments.
  • Fixed issue where live balls on muffed punts that are recovered in the end zone were resulting in a touchback rather than a safety.
Madden Ultimate Team
  • Fixed an issue where users were awarded coins when their friends quit out of a head-to-head game.
  • Fixed a situation where user with a maxed out deck could get locked up in the My Trades screen.
  • Fixed issue where previous MUT fans could not earn the "This one is easy" achievement/trophy for creating their MUT team in Madden NFL 12.
  • Removed an exploit where a MUT player grieve another player through encroachments and other penalties but not lose contract time from their players. They would also receive coins.
General Issues
  • Fixed several of the most common crashes and online disconnection issues for both platforms.
  • Optimized performance in "Play Now" team select to prevent slow down/hitching when scrolling teams
  • Improved the online leaderboards to be more accurate.
  • Fixed several issues with commentary and PA.
  • Addressed issue where users with large amounts of save data sometimes could not get into online head-to-head games.
  • Lowered the frequency of rain games in Franchise Mode.
  • Improved the field's texture on PS3.
  • The 'recent games' section for head-to-head games uses the wrong colors for winner & loser. This issue has been addressed.
  • Fixed issue where a user only appears as online in the Communities Member List if they're inside the community feature.
  • Fixed issue where in Franchise, editing a player will remove their player roles.
  • Fixed issue where when the maximum number of entrants for a room has been reached, after a user leaves the room, they'll be taken to a new room when they try to reenter it.

But, but, but...they fixed the 'rain issue'. No but seriously, I don't get how EA continues to let those HUGE bugs/glitches stay in the game. Is it really THAT hard to fix? They have to know that these are serious issues by now. Yet they didn't even acknowledge them...sad.

The big shoulder pads are a little weird to me. I think I'm going to have one UFA with huge pads make the squad, and he's at FS. What I did was give him max shoulder pad height and I'm going to see if that will just make him look like he's wearing Ronnie Lott/Dennis Smith-era pads.

I also have an OG who weighs in at 265 or something. There's no reason for that. Even if the dude was good I can't countenance that. What I'd do with that case is move him to FB.

Other than the pads and the occasional odd weight (not all UFAs are off weight wise--the FS is 6-0, 210), I like the UFA system. I think this year I have 9 or so who have a legitimate shot to make the final roster. That's a high number, but I'm running with KC, and we have needs at several spots.

I'd rather build through walk-ons and the draft than go snap up the highest rated FA so my team has monster depth.

If you are intent on giving EA your money, pre-order battlefield 3. Both football games have too many problems to invest a ton of time into.

It wasn't always avoidable. Nice try though EA. If you had someone who didn't create a gameplan at all, it still happened whenever you used a custom playbook. So you can't have 0 plays in a created gameplan if the gameplan was never made.

just curious because i haven't played this game at all this year - can you edit the shoulder pads down?

Hmmm. That's a bummer. Is it like this for all UFAs at all positions? And is it like this for all draft class members?

I wonder why they wouldn't let us edit body types and shoulder pad width but would allow us to edit shoulder pad height, all other equipment, and attributes?

If it's just the UFAs, I'll edit them all down to 0, but if it's the draft classes too then that's another story.

I gave it a try for the first time in 4 years this year, and I probably wont want to give it another try for another 4. MONEY drives them, not their customer's satisfaction.
Unfortunately, boycotting a monopoly is realistically impossible. You have 5 million casual fans of which forums like these comprise less than 1% and a corporation + NFL combination aiming to maintain the current high profit scenario.

Depressing, but a good solution has yet to be found.

I don't mind having UDFAs in the game, I have only kept 1 so far, 6'8 277 lb tight end that was pretty solid other than his awareness.

The problem comes with the computer thinking they are 99 overall, and cutting a player that is a 73 overall rookie with A potential to keep one of these UDFAs that ends up being 40 overall with F potential.

The league becomes flooded with 40 overall F rated players..half of which are affected by the appearance issues, making the NFL look like a circus.

OK, that's not good. I didn't want to edit those guys down but I may if it winds up doing that to the game. I'm still just a bit puzzled as to why I can't edit that but I can edit other stuff.

The releasing of players that are actually better in favor of UFAs is fine by me if it's done to a reasonable degree. Real life teams don't exactly know who will pan out. But if it's rampant, then that's another issue.

CAN WE GET THE WIND METER FIXED??? CANT TELL WHICH WAY THE WIND IS BLOWING???

# 192 B-Lo-Z-Ro @ 10/13/11 01:06 AM
im guess the shoulder pad problem is because of the lack of weight that the rookies come in with dealing with the linemen, backers etc.. iwish they would jus scrap the ultimate team & superstar mode and focus on the needed stuff in franchise, online & play now.. they game would prob be where it should be realism wise if they didnt try to come up with new things each year that isnt needed & just focus on fixing the basiscs that are missing every year.. AND LET US USE OUR OWN MUSIC IN GAME, never was a fan of their soundtracks

This is not a low quality product, Sir.

anyone know the date the patch will be out? saw a couple pages back people where saying today? really want to see the changes on the PS3

# 196 mavfan21 @ 10/13/11 03:21 PM
Am I disappointed that this patch doesn't fix everything? Sure. I wish don't like having to do all the preseason cuts by hand but I have it down to a science and can get through it in 30 minutes or so...and that only happens ONCE every off-season.

Game killing? No. Broken? No. Poorly programmed? Sure. But this is an all-around great game. Could use new audio and better depth in Franchise but every year this game is showing improvement.

Look at NCAA. Look at NBA 2k12 online. Look at the freezes and bugs. Madden has had sooooooo few serious issues compared to these two releases.

# 197 outlawz1979 @ 10/13/11 03:24 PM
How do you do that in 30 minutes? Thanks brother lol

# 198 docolla @ 10/13/11 05:17 PM
I'm sure there are some people out there like that. Then again some people have a legit argument. The franchise has many issues this year and I can't believe that EA didn't know about most of these before the release date. It's as if they sold an unfinished product while claiming that it was the best Madden to date. If I would have known about all the franchise issues I would have waited to buy the game until they were fixed. Then I could have gotten it either used or from a place like toys-r-us at a cheaper price. I wish they wouldn't have put a gag order on all of the people who got the game early, I'm sure they could have informed us of all the issues the game had and people like me wouldn't have taken EA for their word and bought a game that has done nothing but collect dust on my shelf.

I think Madden is held to a higher standard because it has been mediocre the last few years so a lot of it is backlash and pent up anger and also a lot of people love NFL football more than any other sports so they get mad if its not perfect

I do have to say, the UDFA sizes and shoulderpads issue, while hardly the issue others have made it out to be, is disappointing.

When I see a UDFA that is 6' 4" 383lbs, I would like him to not look like Terrell Owens.

This is an overarching problem with the way Tiburon/EA treats player sizes in general. I mean, go look at Vince Wilfork, and then look at his Madden representation. LOL

Even Michael Jasper, who they added to the later roster updates, 6' 4" 395lbs, they still made far to svelte. Maybe it is an issue with not wanting to offend players.

I'm curious as to why this wasn't included in the patch though.
