Honestly, overalls mean nothing when it comes down to the actual game. Its the actual ratings in each of their attributes that really matter and so long as those are accurate then I have no problem with the game.

Look what happened in April when Bargs and Jose were out. I remember a game in April against the Bulls in Chicago, which was supposed to be an easy win for them as they tried to clinch home court. Without the typical, stale Jose and Bargs pick and roll to go to, DeMar and Bayless had the ball down the stretch and made big shot after big shot.

I remember Bulls fans on RealGM freaking out..."WHY WON'T THEY JUST GO AWAY!!"...."WHO DOES THIS GUY THINK HE IS, KOBE?". I think DeMar and Bayless both had 26 that game, it's incredible Triano didn't have the foresight to start them together earlier in the year.

Anyway, I guess all Raptor fans can hope for is for the season to begin quickly. DeMar, Bayless and Ed Davis will all see big boosts, that's a guarantee.

I actually hate Bayless. I think just because we gave him a hance on the Raps he believes this is his chance to go all out and be the guy. He's always trying to score and only passes when he can't. That's partly why I wanted Kemba or Knight at draft Knight so Bayless could get kicked or play bench. after seeing Jonas play though, I've changed my mind though. I just hope Ed gets more playing time, he gets benched so much and I remember a stretch where Amir got injured and Ed would get a double double every game.

In fact, when one compares this season with his previous season, major defficiencies become more clear as he struggled to keep up with his increased responsabilities on Offense. He increased his paying time in more than 60% and yet, he was far less efficient on offense and on rebounding too than the prior year. Some may argue that his stats were padded by playing on such a bad team, that got even worse after midseason as many injuries took a noticeable poll.

Based solely on last season, Demarr isnt near the level of most seem to believe ... granted, he is a freak athlete and is a really young player which translates on a great potential window of improvement ... but, as of last season, he is nowhere near beeing a borderline all star.

Then again, I am not justifying 2ks rating as I have yet to see the individual attributes assigned to him, what I am stating tho, is that physical attributes dont weight on their overall formulas and that is the greatest drawback (albeit any wrong individual attribute) for him not having a higher overall. To me, he will be a good player, even better, once he can get more consistency and efficiency as he gets plenty of playing time and usage.
My man! +1 to another stat-head. I will say, though, I'm surprised his TS% is that low (average league-wise) and that probably has a little to do with his broken 3-pt shot.

I'm curious as to whether or not NBA 2k13 could possible include Win Shares, oRtg, dRtg, and all those other neat statistics and percentage-rates.

Obviously, they shouldn't weigh TOO HEAVILY on advanced stats, as they say Kevin Love is the best player in the league, BUT they do help separate players who -- upon general inspection -- appear to be equals.

Completely disagree on Bayless. He actually moved the ball really well as a starter, his assist rate was right up there with Lawson/Westbrook/etc. I'm amazed at how efficient he was in April considering he wasn't playing with a single shooter to spread the floor.

As for him looking for his own shot, why wouldn't he? He's easily the most talented offensive player on the roster in terms of attacking the basket and hitting the pull up J. Is he supposed to be creating for Alexis Ajinca? DeMar played better with him than with Jose.

He's the prime example of why Jay Triano is not an NBA coach, I've never seen such poor communication between a coach and a young PG. Triano's idea of developing a young PG is to turn a cold shoulder and ignore after a rough stretch. Hell, Nash and his coaches are in constant communication and he could probably do just as well without it. This was his first opportunity at extended playing time since he's come into the league, he did well when Triano wasn't messing with his minutes.

I think by the end of next season DeMar will be ~75-77, Ed Davis 74 and Bayless 74-75.

  • Second of all, this is not Madden. In Madden, key attributes are lowered or upped just so that the players Overall will "seem" right. This affects the core of the game (such as having a reciever not known for speed getting a signifcant boost in speed just so that his Overall will jump higher). Basketball is an entirely different sport. Skills are highly specialized and as such it is much easier to be effective with a relatively lower rated player, unlike in Madden.
  • Thirdly, these are the same people that played the demo. The people who actually used Dirk, exclaimed he played exactly like him....then turned around and said his Overall should be higher!? What effect would that have? So Dirk plays prime KG defense now? Is that it?
  • People comparing across positions. Why...in the hell...would you compare a SF to a PG? Or a PG to a C? What are you trying to determine? Different ratings matter more for different positions. This shud've immediately occured to some of you. It does no good to compare Dwight Howard to Lebron when one plays Center and another plays Small Forward. Good lord! Every single rational thought just seemed to left the thread once the word "Overall" was introduced (Not you guys who understand, just wanted to be clear.).
  • Lastly, the fact that a majority of posters will ignore this post and continue on in ignorance. UGH.

your post is EXACTLY why i posted this:

everyones complaining about overall ratings & specific shooting ratings is always funny to me!!!

OVERALL RATINGS TAKE INTO ACCOUNT ALL ABILITIES!!!

some players OVERALL is low because they are good or great in only particular categories. in those instances they probably have a high rating in those PARTICULAR areas that they excel in (Dirk 99 mid-shot & 85 overall - Bargnani 67 overall & high shooting ratings)

the overall is also weighted by certain abilities pertaing to their position. so softer, non-rebounding, face-up shooting bigs' overalls' will be lower than expected if they are playing center or PF because they lack the other skills tht are weighted to those positions. consequently if you moved them to SF you would see their overall changed higher due to the fact SF ratings are weighted by shooting & more athletic ratings.

same thing goes for the guards that people are complaining about... Rose's OVERALL is high because OVERALL he has a LOT of great abilities (defensive, speed, quickness, iq, decent shot)...

VERY ANNOYING when people think someone deserves high ratings just because they can score. (its a microcosm of the world & sports today... basketball is more than scoring & highlight dunks & blocks)

tendencies & actual in game play matter far more than OVERALL RATING... play a game where Jason Kapono is left open often & watch how he will roast you just like he should... all while having a 64 overall...

all that being said... 2k DOES seem to skew the hell out of other areas & ratings but for the most part i complain about the way they render tendencies (which is what truly alters in-game play)

overall ratings affect rotation & importance in association mode

tendencies affect in-game play

if you want Brgnani's overall higher, ur gonna have to make him a MUCH better rebounder & post defender than he actually is & if you want Rose to be lower, you're gonna have to make him slower & dumber than he actually is.
& they just kept on posting about OVERALL ratings like they didnt see the GIANT BOLD parts regarding how OVERALL is calculated & the lack of significance...

complaints & a thread FULL of complaints & endless bickering is the reason 2k faultily inlates overall ratings & mods lock down on everything in the first place.

its like someone saying that a car's wheels are nice & the a/c works but it doesnt start & THEN saying that the price should STILL be higher for it than it is... this thread has shown me everything i need to know about some posters here.

trying to give an explanation or make sense to some of these guys is a "1000-post-&-response-loosing-battle"

while ive been harping on midrange jumpshots all day. Some answer this one for me. Kobe Bryant 78 midrange. Lebron has an 86. Ive seen it all 2K.
They had the nerve to give Jawuan Howard an 80 Midrange.

ya not sure why Alexander isn't in the game.

he played in dleague last season i believe, better than some of the scrubs in the FA.

# 254 Shyseven @ 09/27/11 08:27 PM
2K is wack with their ratings quite consistently. I mean, it could be just a position and play style thing, e.g. If you were to change Nate Robinson's primary position to SG on 2K11, his OVR would go up to about 80ish and if you were to change any of a defensive center's offensive abilites to 99, it wouldn't do much difference to his OVR.

Also, game sliders have to be taken into account, but these ratings are just sad.

These ratings are just terrible

How is JR Smith a 91 mid range while Kobe is a 78

There is 0 excuses for this. I don't care about % or anything. No way I'm playing online with these ratings. I might strictly be offline this year.

# 257 J.R._Rider @ 09/27/11 08:39 PM
Between updated rosters, downloadable roster files on 2KShare, and the ability to edit ratings on ones own, it seems to me that ratings in this game are just a little too fluid to really have any gripe to grasp on to.

I'm not usually one to say, "Stop whining!" We all have different priorities, we're all looking at different things in this game, and I can definitely respect that. But this just sort of seems like we're shouting at the moon, here.

Durty my man what up? U are not serious with this post are u? Kobe isn't really a 78 mid range is he? Tell me your joking

# 259 RedSceptile @ 09/27/11 08:50 PM
Statistics back it up. Last season LeBron shot 45% from mid range last season Kobe shot 38%.

# 260 Krodis @ 09/27/11 08:50 PM
Kobe shot 38% from 16-23 feet last year. While not bad, it's hardly amazing. Lebron shot 45% from the same range
