NCAA Football 12 News Post

EA Sports has just posted the NCAA Football 12 title update #2 details. The patch is currently on schedule to release before the end of the month, no exact date, as of yet.

Before getting to the details of the update, I want to take a moment to thank you, the NCAA Football community, for all of your patience and assistance during the past couple of weeks. A great many of you share the same passion for this game as we do, and you did everything possible to help identify issues, and provide the necessary details - not just to help make a game better, but to make your game better. If you are reading this, you are a member of the most dedicated community in gaming, and for that we are truly grateful. Now, on to the details:

Week Advance Anywhere
  • As a token of our appreciation, we’re happy to announce that as of today “Week Advance Anywhere” on the web is now available for use, and that this feature will be FREE for everyone to use.
Custom Playbooks
  • With this Title Update the missing play issue that led to a number of problems when using Custom Playbooks has been fixed. Not only is the issue fixed, but you will not need to recreate your playbooks! Any existing playbook will have the fix applied, and you will be able to continue using that playbook without issue.
Tendencies
  • As with the Custom Playbooks resolution, the fix to the issue of edited player tendencies changing will not negate any previously edited roster file. The fix will be applied to both those existing files, as well as any new roster file that is created.
  • If you are in a Dynasty or Online Dynasty you will not need to restart as long as your Dynasty is still in year one and you have not advanced past “Training Results” in the off-season. If you are before this point, the update will be applied to your existing Dynasty/Online Dynasty and the tendencies will be correct for all players going forward. If you are in year two and beyond, the tendency issue impact will be less and less as the players graduate/are cut from the rosters.
  • In addition to the tendencies issue, we have also included both the ability to edit height and weight for players, as well as the option to edit the rosters of CPU controlled teams. In an Online Dynasty the commissioner will have the ability to edit the rosters for other human controlled teams. These were both big requests from you in the community.
  • Finally, a bug was fixed with the profanity filter that was preventing many common names from being entered. Now, any name can be entered, for offline use. A profanity filter is applied to Online Dynasty when the Dynasty is created. If you prefer to opt out of this filter, you can set the Dynasty to Private and the profanity check will not run.
Freezes/Crashes
  • A major focus for this Title Update was to address any freezes/crashes that were found. There were a number of these issues fixed in this Title Update including a crash that occurred when there were multiple TeamBuilder teams in an Online Dynasty, as well as a crash that occurred during the downloading of an Online Dynasty file.
Gameplay
  • Increased the acceleration of QB’s on Speed Option plays.
  • Improved WR blocking, especially on option plays
  • Fixed an issue where defenders assigned to play the curl to flat/buzz zone did not engage immediately when the QB scrambles past the LOS.
  • Fixed an issue where safeties with inside deep ¼ zone would drop back instead of read-and-react on run plays.
  • Fixed an issue in Nickel Cover 3 where the flat zone defender didn’t move as the QB was running at them.
  • Fixed an issue with Double Outs from 4-2-5 Normal where the RLB wasn’t blocked properly vs. certain formations.
Highlights
  • Fixed an issue that caused a blank photo to be uploaded leading to issues with other highlights being uploaded.
Dynasty
  • Fixed an issue in Online Dynasty where injured players did not remain injured when the week advanced.
  • Fixed an issue where a player’s injury time was only reduced by one week when going from Conference Championship week to Bowl Season. Players will now be back for their Bowl game if they should be off of the IR when their bowl game is played.
  • Fixed an issue where coaches that changed jobs could get stuck in a state where they were still listed as coaching at their old school on the Players Leaving screen, leading to a Transfer Failed issue.
  • Fixed an issue that occasionally prevented Dynasties from advancing to the post season.
  • Fixed an issue with the schedule that prevented entering the Virginia Tech vs. Boston College game (fixed for both Dynasty and RTG).
  • Fixed an issue where recruiting related trophies/achievements were not unlocked properly if you signed an extension in that season.
  • Fixed an issue with Program Stability where the grade would drop from A+ to D+ in one season.
  • Fixed an issue with the Unlock All Promises PDLC not unlocking properly on the Dynasty website.
  • When viewing an Online Dynasty invite, added information to show what type of job can be selected by default.
  • Fixed an issue when in the off-season where player stats did not match up between the web and console.
RTG
  • Fixed an issue where CB’s could not audible after earning the ability to do so through Coach Trust.
  • Fixed an issue where HB’s could not flip the play after earning the ability to do so through Coach Trust.
Online
  • Fixed an issue where player’s online stats were not displaying promptly on the Online Leaderboards.

That's more than half of my life. Whatever it is, I've been there, most of the time on release day (12 AM), with my wallet ready to give my money to EA. I won't lie, I've never felt that I haven't gotten my money's worth from this game, but it is so incredibly disheartening to see the same issues year after year. Some years, I feel like I force myself to play it, and ignore all the bugs and glitches.

I guess as I've gotten older, I've accepted that games will not be perfect, nor will they ever fully meet my expectations. But when you see a game that has so much damn potential just sputter along, it really chips away at your desire to play. My gaming time is extremely limited now due to simply growing up and having a family, so it makes it that much harder.

There is no reason on why this game should not be a MONSTER when it comes to sales. College football is so popular in our country. There is nothing else quite like it... The rivalries, the bands, the atmosphere - but you don't ever really feel any of that with this game. We've had core features taken away from us that were on the old consoles. We are told things like, "Well, there's disc space issues..." But none of that adds up because there are things that we had then that we don't have now, and I thought improving technology would broaden the opportunities for games? I don't know, I just don't get it.

I'd rather buy my son $60 worth of toys than spend money on this game. At times, I want to defend this title to my death, but my mind tells me that I am simply being dishonest with myself. I haven't turned my 360 on in well over a week, and that is unheard of for me this time of year. Usually, I have at least one dynasty in the books by now, but I haven't even started one yet because I've heard of all the bugs. I just can't do it to myself.

I love immersing myself in this game. If you head over to the Dynasty HQ forum, you'll see I do some posting over there, but I've lost interest in it because I can't overcome the bugs. A 5-star QB coming in with 46 throw power? My 6'5" 225 pound QB can't throw the ball 40 yards, yet I was the highest rated incoming QB... I know there are point upgrades, but stuff like that just kills the experience for me.

I know I'm whining, but it just eats at me. It's not like I'm depressed, but I feel... cheated. Let down. It sucks, and I just hope EA rights the ship before it's truly too late and this title gets dropped. That might sound extreme, but so did not releasing an NBA game last year by EA.

We're getting an essential patch two months (or more) after the release date... That's nuts. Two months! People can't even play the game because of the freezing issues, and EA does little to address it, apologize, or keep us in the loop on when the patch might drop. I know giving dates is not standard business practice, but when you've let down so many, perhaps an explanation is in order.

Come on EA, so many of us have been loyal, to a fault even, and all we want is for you to step up and give us something to be excited about. You hype up and market this game so well, but you haven't been delivering.
Fantastic post. You summed up exactly where I am at with this title and how it fits in my life. It's so disappointing.

This is the first year I haven't bought NCAA at launch since Bill Walsh Football. Fight Night Champion was the straw that broke this camel's back. Not only were there freezing issues and glitches at launch, they totally ignored them and patched and tuned the game from pretty decent to a pile of broken code removing things like cuts and swelling and totally frogging up the judging. They actually broke things that were working and removed items essential to a boxing game.

I remember NCAA last year, the qb accuracy was pretty good out of the box, 3 weeks later Robo QB was patched/tuned back in. On top of that there were so many other changes that the sliders I had worked on for weeks were no longer applicable.

I think that EA now caters to the online crowd. The online crowd tends to be "win at all costs" so they won't tolerate things like innacurate QB's or missing FG's. Actually alot of the offline crowd must be win at all cost too because little Timmy needs the 4 vertical bailout money play in case he is losing late. Its no longer about realism, its fancy graphics first and realistic play second.

Anyway, I have saved myself a ton of frustration by passing on this game this year. The best thing you can do is wait 3 or 4 months until they are done tuning and patching and come back here and ask a few trusted members what they think of the game or renting it. In the end, you will have saved time you can use productively elsewhere, saved money because its usually 39 or less after October, and if enough of us do this, it will put a blip on EA's radar that releasing buggy/glitchy products will not be beta tested for free and purchased at a premium.

I wish I had done what you did this year. I'm currently playing 11, but have held on to 12 to see what happens with the patches/tuning. If I'm not satisfied, I'll be following this advice next year.

I am eagerly waiting for FIFA 12 and I think from that point on it will be nothing but Soccer for me. Unless Madden really turns it around, I am done buying football titles. I will stick to the franchises who are doing their work, NBA2k, MLB The Show, and FIFA.

All this talk about not buying 13 on Day 1 is fine and well now in August.

But this will mean nothing if your not saying that in July 2012. And unfortunately 99% of people that complain in August still get trigger happy the next July.

Naw man. Considering the level of the debacle pre patch this year, excitement or not...it's pretty easy for me as a grown man to avoid "hunting" and paying 100+ bucks for this game a few days early from release....when in actuality...it's not "complete" until September??

I mean...it's now August 23rd...August twentyfreakingthird...and my OD crew is sitting on its hands waiting for this patch to drop sometime before 2018.

I'm pretty sure I'll be waiting.

It's sad that this game won't work like it's supposed to until after the start of college football. Why should I think it'll be any different next year?

I just plan on playing '12 instead of purchasing '13. Won't have to wait for all the bugs to get fixed.

# 790 mcavner @ 08/23/11 12:14 PM
I don't think that is true - the trigger finger comment. It may be an age thing, but of my peer group, online and offline, there is very much a move away from day one purchasing and many of them are not purchasing at all. Like the post above states, time is short even if money is not, and if the game is more frustrating than fun and disappointing rather than delivering, well then they'll find something else to fill that void or just... not play video games.
There is a real sense of frustration in the community from some longtime players, and that frustration seems to be of the fed-up variety. For instance, of my core group of players, which was probably 25-30 guys maybe ten yrs ago, we are now down to half a dozen purchasing the game at all this year, and of those I feel like I'm the only guy who even enjoys the game at all - and likely the last planning to buy next year. And for me much of that is still based on what this game might be, should be, post-patch. Sales are made on marketing and reputation. Right now we've got a glitchy game and a community that feels, once again, duped by marketing and our own seemingly endless enthusiasm and optimism for the title's possibility. Last year's title was one of the best versions IMO - I had really hoped they'd picked up some momentum.

# 791 Matty86 @ 08/23/11 12:33 PM
I won't pick up 2013 until xmas next year. I go back to work full time as a lead cook at a college on Friday so I don't have much time to play during the year. I had really hoped to get some hours out of this game during the summer. Really sucks.

# 792 khaliib @ 08/23/11 12:47 PM
I'm of the older crowd also, and tend to make due with things (games) and find some fun in them.

But truth be told, it's just the way this big mess went down and I believe this Tuner/Patch will not be the cure-all we are hoping and just like last year, we "might" get 1 more Tuner if we are lucky, then that's it.

Community will be left high-n-dry like last year.

With that, there's no way I'm buying Madden, even after all the "Rave" reviews that will probably come from folks.
It will have it's yearly issues also, "Guaranteed"!!!

When the shooter's come out, I believe playing time will deminish even more as the issues will not be gone from either game forcing folks to finally throw their hands up and move on.

I'm glad I'm older and video games don't need to be "a must buy".

6 weeks after purchase and there it sits.

It has nothing to do with the money, its the principal and the time and frustration spent trying to correct flaws with sliders that may or may not even work properly.

$60 is really nothing to me in the grand scheme of things. Its a few drinks and a nice steak dinner or a round of golf. If I had the "perfect" college football game, I wouldn't mind paying $200+ for it if it gave me hundreds of hours of enertainment over the course of the year.

But back to the principal....Why should anyone have to pay to be a frustrated beta tester. At the very least, EA should make sure that hi-lighted features work as advertised. Its pretty amazing to me that EA sports doesn't tap this sites resources for beta testers and find these errors before the game is released.

In a sense they are trying that with the Season Pass thing, but you have to pay to be the tester. And even then it's only a lead time of a few days, but it's the same idea. Part of their reasoning was that they will be able to identify issues earlier with this program.

$60 bucks for a few drinks and a steak dinner? Wow, sign me up for that!!!!

I totally hear what you're saying and I agree. Generally speaking, the hours of entertainment for the cost in most instances is worth it in my opinion. Heck, games have probably saved me a nice chunk of change that I otherwise would have spent on bar tabs or something, lol.

However, faith that this company can deliver a product without terrible bugs and issues has dwindled to such a low that it has become harder and harder to justify these purchases. And the lack of communication to the loyal customer base is appalling. It's getting old and I'm getting sick of it.

I know it's ridiculous but, EA has me despising a guy I don't even know. I have to chuckle to myself but, every time I see Ben Haumiller he just seems greasier and greasier. Like a used car salesman, haha.

Along with what others are saying I too am extremely disappointed on the lack of a patch as of almost 2 months after game release regarding several game breaking bugs. Im speaking first and foremost about online dynasties ending up halted or destroyed after much time invested.

I have always been a strong supporter of this game and have felt that the dev team in the past were a lot of the time unfairly criticized. This year however it is hard to make excuses for them. To have bugs that literally halt your game and do not allow one to play the feature that one loves most is unbelievable to me that a fix has not been implemented to this point.

The lack of communication from the dev team to any of the sites that they have close contact with is a big problem I believe. If they would simply come out and at least acknowledge the fact that there are MAJOR bugs in this game I believe that would at least make some happier (myself included). However all we are left with is quite frankly an interview on 8/18 and the bugs are almost an after thought as to the severity while I personally felt the issue was for the most part dismissed. (this is simply my impression of the interview)

My plan next year is to buy this game from ebay/person to person some time after release. Im not going to buy it used as this will still send in my revenue. I know that this will not in any way put any dent in their sales however it will make me feel better and lessen the extent that I feel as a consumer that im being looked over as currently this is how I feel with this years release.

agree 2000%. that is my exact sentiment. i just cant support mediocrity any longer. i was a every yr madden purchaser til this gen came and i saw it take a left turn into a place that was very unfamiliar. hope they turn it around but im skeptical. honestly with all the other great, full fledged, finished titles in other genres who come with less game-breaking bugs and more content, i really just dont care as much. ncaa's saving grace was the online dyn. if it wasnt for that, i wouldnt even be playing ea football. now this yr it freezes so much i dont even know if ill make it thru my dyn game or even if i do, i still may get transfer failed like my last advance and lose stats and a school record and possibly lose the game during sim. i dont like playing a game with this in my mind the whole time.

again i agree 2000%. i feel the same way. the money means nothing in the scheme, but its the principle. i cant justify buying broken bug filled games that are lagging behind the times as far as tech and innovation. why would i buy ncaa/madden when i can buy uncharted 3 or bf3 or rage or gears 3 or nba2k11/12 etc etc for the same price?

then when they do screw up, they dont even apologize and acknowledge the probs in a genuine manner. they stay silent forever, then show up to give patch notes after theyve talked down the probs as "not a big deal" or ppl are "freaking out unjustified and overreacting". BS!! then they talk down to the customer base or flat out lie and twist things as if we're stupid consumers who cant see a line of bs when we're given it.

im at the end of that ea tiburon rope....oh yea...the greasy line had me LOL'n!!!!

This mirrors my thoughts perfectly. I feel that they did make a great game this year just the huge bugs with online dynasty make it possible for me to enjoy the game the way I should.
