NCAA Football 12 News Post

EA Sports has just posted the NCAA Football 12 title update #2 details. The patch is currently on schedule to release before the end of the month, no exact date, as of yet.

Before getting to the details of the update, I want to take a moment to thank you, the NCAA Football community, for all of your patience and assistance during the past couple of weeks. A great many of you share the same passion for this game as we do, and you did everything possible to help identify issues, and provide the necessary details - not just to help make a game better, but to make your game better. If you are reading this, you are a member of the most dedicated community in gaming, and for that we are truly grateful. Now, on to the details:

Week Advance Anywhere
  • As a token of our appreciation, we’re happy to announce that as of today “Week Advance Anywhere” on the web is now available for use, and that this feature will be FREE for everyone to use.
Custom Playbooks
  • With this Title Update the missing play issue that led to a number of problems when using Custom Playbooks has been fixed. Not only is the issue fixed, but you will not need to recreate your playbooks! Any existing playbook will have the fix applied, and you will be able to continue using that playbook without issue.
Tendencies
  • As with the Custom Playbooks resolution, the fix to the issue of edited player tendencies changing will not negate any previously edited roster file. The fix will be applied to both those existing files, as well as any new roster file that is created.
  • If you are in a Dynasty or Online Dynasty you will not need to restart as long as your Dynasty is still in year one and you have not advanced past “Training Results” in the off-season. If you are before this point, the update will be applied to your existing Dynasty/Online Dynasty and the tendencies will be correct for all players going forward. If you are in year two and beyond, the tendency issue impact will be less and less as the players graduate/are cut from the rosters.
  • In addition to the tendencies issue, we have also included both the ability to edit height and weight for players, as well as the option to edit the rosters of CPU controlled teams. In an Online Dynasty the commissioner will have the ability to edit the rosters for other human controlled teams. These were both big requests from you in the community.
  • Finally, a bug was fixed with the profanity filter that was preventing many common names from being entered. Now, any name can be entered, for offline use. A profanity filter is applied to Online Dynasty when the Dynasty is created. If you prefer to opt out of this filter, you can set the Dynasty to Private and the profanity check will not run.
Freezes/Crashes
  • A major focus for this Title Update was to address any freezes/crashes that were found. There were a number of these issues fixed in this Title Update including a crash that occurred when there were multiple TeamBuilder teams in an Online Dynasty, as well as a crash that occurred during the downloading of an Online Dynasty file.
Gameplay
  • Increased the acceleration of QB’s on Speed Option plays.
  • Improved WR blocking, especially on option plays
  • Fixed an issue where defenders assigned to play the curl to flat/buzz zone did not engage immediately when the QB scrambles past the LOS.
  • Fixed an issue where safeties with inside deep ¼ zone would drop back instead of read-and-react on run plays.
  • Fixed an issue in Nickel Cover 3 where the flat zone defender didn’t move as the QB was running at them.
  • Fixed an issue with Double Outs from 4-2-5 Normal where the RLB wasn’t blocked properly vs. certain formations.
Highlights
  • Fixed an issue that caused a blank photo to be uploaded leading to issues with other highlights being uploaded.
Dynasty
  • Fixed an issue in Online Dynasty where injured players did not remain injured when the week advanced.
  • Fixed an issue where a player’s injury time was only reduced by one week when going from Conference Championship week to Bowl Season. Players will now be back for their Bowl game if they should be off of the IR when their bowl game is played.
  • Fixed an issue where coaches that changed jobs could get stuck in a state where they were still listed as coaching at their old school on the Players Leaving screen, leading to a Transfer Failed issue.
  • Fixed an issue that occasionally prevented Dynasties from advancing to the post season.
  • Fixed an issue with the schedule that prevented entering the Virginia Tech vs. Boston College game (fixed for both Dynasty and RTG).
  • Fixed an issue where recruiting related trophies/achievements were not unlocked properly if you signed an extension in that season.
  • Fixed an issue with Program Stability where the grade would drop from A+ to D+ in one season.
  • Fixed an issue with the Unlock All Promises PDLC not unlocking properly on the Dynasty website.
  • When viewing an Online Dynasty invite, added information to show what type of job can be selected by default.
  • Fixed an issue when in the off-season where player stats did not match up between the web and console.
RTG
  • Fixed an issue where CB’s could not audible after earning the ability to do so through Coach Trust.
  • Fixed an issue where HB’s could not flip the play after earning the ability to do so through Coach Trust.
Online
  • Fixed an issue where player’s online stats were not displaying promptly on the Online Leaderboards.

EA started the tuning packs with their NHL series and that's where they are used best. From what I've read they release multiple tuning packs which are independent from each other and users can decide which pack to use based on their gameplay desires. The NCAA team hasn't gotten that sophisticated yet. Last year they seemed to use the tuning patch to address progression issues more than anything.

I'm not seeing the 4 verts problem that others are seeing. If they tune this, they'll proabably overdue it and make the deep ball impossible. The NHL tuners were awesome, I could pick which set to use. I hope that's the case with NCAA12. Will I have to use the new tuner set when it drops?

People - all of these game play issues are subjective. EA really needs to work on the issues that are real and hard errors before even considering subjective issues like "it's too easy to pass deep, it's too hard to run, DBs do that too much, LBs don't do that enough" etc etc.

Sliders fix or eliminate a lot of these issues. Also, whose to say your opinion that the game needs patched due to a game play issue is the right one? Maybe others like something you dislike. That doesn't mean it's a bug you know.

This is my thoughts about it, and taking the deep ball away would be worse IMO. The deep ball is a very real part of football, and a lot of deep passes have the WR a good 5 yards behind the DB. I myself just don't see a huge problem with it as long as you don't spam it all game and keep running the same plays..

That's true but at the same time I think people should be able to voice their personal concerns over the issues without being told to shut up because there may or may not be a tuning file that may or may not fix it.

I think many people think LBs still knock down a few too many balls.

i hope the ability to edit cpu teams means depth charts. it seemed kind of silly that i could edit their players, but not change their depth chart.

Wrong!

I think the CPU safeties are terrible in deep zone

Not sure what game your playing but you shoudl check again the CPU can be lit up liek a X-Mas tree because of their safety play and reaction in deep zone.

So learning how to play defense doesn't help the CPU safeties.....

Patches are fixing issues that can not be addressed via a game tuner. I'm sure Ben will be back with another blog at some point in the coming weeks discussing the gameplay TUNING issues that will be addressed.

Can we please put an end to the replies complaining that this patch did not fix the deep ball, safety logic, or other GAMEPLAY TUNING related issues?
I here were your comming from, but you can't blame folks for not trusting that the Tuner will resolve what they are looking for in "Their" game.

I applaud the effort, but facts are facts.
The Tuner's last year did more harm than good to Gameplay.

And seeing that EA "Never" drops a list of the things they will try and Tune, oftentimes the issues you were hoping to have fixed might get the "We didn't have time" affixed to them.

So I think it's important for Gamers to continue to note/voice those things that they feel hinder Gameplay, until EA at least releases some info on what they're trying to improve through a Tuner.

They say they listen to the community, so if more people note/post on the same issue(s), hopefully it gets moved up on the to-do list.
Especially since there is no info on what exactly the tuner will address.

**Not directed at you in particular, but in general**
But in my eyes, the term "Complaining" can be added with the term "Trolling".
Even another OS Staff writer noted that such a term is thrown around here a little to flippant.

How do you know this can be fixed via tuner patches? It was impossible to fix that with Sliders so i think that a patch is necessary for that.

i may be wrong though.

Good to see they are gonna patch alot of known issues but this still doesnt call for any type of praise or thankfulness. Most of these problems are things that are SUPPOSED to fixed before the game goes gold. Dont act like EA is doing us a favor.

First, a slow clap for EA for finally addressing some of the hilarious problems (freezing, roster glitch causing my players to behave like asshats, custom playbooks) this game has been crippled by. Better late than never I suppose.

I'm incredibly disappointed nothing is in there about coaching progression. The fact that one of the most hyped new features is broken and nothing is said is upsetting.

For the gameplay gripes, I understand that they can be fixed by tuners. So, why haven't we heard anything about a tuning package? The game has been out nearly 3 weeks. The fact that many of us are worried that a tuning package might make an already flawed game even more flawed should say enough about EA and how they handle these sorts of things. I guess it's better they take their time, but, this should have already been ironed out.

The "sometime before the end of the month" which could be nearly a month and a half after release is when we will get to play the game that isn't ripe with flaws is disgusting. Especially because this is a repeat from last year. I wish college football didn't grab me by the balls every season making me fall for the hype each year, because the way they release these games is just a comedy of errors each year.

I hate so much this kind of post.

Tell the cpu to learn how to play defense then!..

I HATE WINNING GAMES BECAUSE I COMPLETE A STREAK POST AND THE S DOESN`T KNOW WHERE THE WR IS.

Sorry for the caps but i had to vent my self.

I agree....

Madskillz is more interested in fixing the CPU like myself

I don't care what the human player can do on special teams and other gameplay aspects

None of that helps the CPU....

EA needs to step up the CPU AI that is where some us see many flaws. For those who come on here and talk about what they can do on pass coverage or special teams good for you.

But your ability to block punts or kicks or play deep coverage doesn't translate to making the CPU AI effective in those area's....I'm was both shocked and happy that EA finally realized after 3 years the outside blcoking by the WR's on Option teams needed a severe boost up and it appears EA is going to fix it from the listening to the changes made.

Those are the things guys like Madskillz and SEC are more concerned with AI issues that hinders gameplay some of which have gone untouched for years now.....cough cough CPU Option offense

thats a real life rule intended to speed up the game. at some point either last two minutes or something the clock stops when you go out of bounds.

# 196 uclabruins4ever @ 08/02/11 10:32 PM
So let's see

Messed up progression (last year was players, this year is coaches) basically a holdover from last year

Super Linebackers also a holdover from last year

Broken uniform wear and tear graphics, also a problem last year

how is that even possible?

Someone please start a class action to wrestle the exclusive NCAA license away from EA and allow for some competition for the love of god

Wow, that's a lot of fixes! I'm not an EA slappy by any means, but it's good to see that they're working after release to improve the game.

really.... ¿¿¿¿ ?????

I`ll put it this way so you maybe can understand.

EA,

Could you please teach the CPU to play Defense? Because i can`t cause i`m not controlling their S so it`s impossible for me to explain them how to play defense.

Maybe you can interact with their Safety via a few code lines or something.

Thank you.

I am fine with this patch as long as it does not hurt offline play. I really enjoy playing the A.I. and I just can't take another year of over tuning/patching A.I.

Here's the difference:

Patches: Need approval from MS and Sony which can hold up the process for weeks. Because of this devs try to put as many BIG fixes into these as possible as quickly as possible. These issues are also more complicated than those dealing with core gameplay fixes (like the tendency and freezing issues).

Tuner Sets: Need NO approval from MS and Sony. Because of this devs can take their time on these, get the gameplay right without having to worry about their hard work getting delayed weeks by an approval process. This is why you will see the majority of gameplay fixes in tuner patches.

Trust me, EA is aware of the deep route issues, and other odd gameplay quirks. As I said, I am sure they will announce information on what the tuner fixes at a later date.
