NBA 2K12 News Post

Back by popular demand!

In case you don't realize, the thread we all helped out on for NBA 2k11 was certainly used in fine tuning some details for the game. Let's get this party started for NBA 2k12.

Some rules:

This thread will focus on things such as the following:

Arenas
Player Faces
Player Accessories
Jersey Mistakes

Let's keep the topic focused in these areas. Compiling this information only benefits us.

Now to start and expand on something 2k added this year:

Buzzer beaters
There has to be better emotion out of things like this. You can see 2k put in a variety of fist pump animations and such and it was a great start. Before that, 2k10 had a rare few, including this one:

If you can't view the embedded video, click here. (SIDE NOTE: PLEASE have someone look at the flash player for your site. Embedding videos does not work with the code provided and you get the gray box as seen above)

We need more like this with players running to the other side of the court with the number one finger up or running and stopping and staring at the crowd.

Here is a GREAT reference video.

If you can't view the embedded video, click here.

PAY ATTENTION TO THE CROWD!!

Add yours and we'll put them all in this post.

Player Specific
- Body Types - There need to be more body types in the game. Players like Duncan, Pierce and Glenn Big Baby Davis just don't look right chiseled. Examples:
Wiry - Skinny and long - Tayshaun Prince, Kevin Durant, George Hill
Normal - Undefined muscles - Tim Duncan, Paul Pierce, Anderson Varejao, Samuel Dalembert
Muscular - Very defined - Dwight Howard
Hefty - Big and bulky, a little "chunky" - Glenn Davis, DeJuan Blair

-Player faces in need of updates: Carmelo Anthony, Danny Granger, Matt Bonner, Andrew Bynum, George Hill, Andray Blatche, Javale McGee, Deron Williams, James Harden, Kendrick Perkins, Carlos Boozer, Bill Walker, Wilson Chandler, Joakim Noah, Luol Deng is bald, Andrew Bogut, Monta Ellis, Nick Young, Andrea Bargnani, David Lee,

Carlos Boozer - Signature motion after dunk, scream and head bob up/down
Wesley Matthews - Signature taunt after a three.

Tatoos - Wilson Chandler is in DIRE need of an update. References: 1, 2, 3, 4

Signature Shots - Bargnani and Calderon were changed by the 2k Insider over the course of the season to a better shot. PLEASE don't change it back to their sig's, which were actually off.

Accessories
-Calf Sleeves - Half size and Full size (There is a SLIGHT difference here. At first they look the same but HALF doesn't reach ankle and FULL does.) Don't forget the sleeve pads.
-Small Knee Pads
-BIG Knee braces - As seen on Duncan and Bosh.
-Adidas license - Especially Dwight Howards double arm braces. (We know it's a license issue - but get it anyway. )
-Elbow Bands - You have them below the elbow (probably b/c of graphical glitches). They go on the elbow. One thing you can do is take the arm sleeves and modify that. Less work and solves the problem quickly.
-Player warm up jackets - Randomly add them to players that come back to the bench after playing.
-Mouth guards
-Head bands - be able to position logo (front, angled L/R, Back) The NBA should be ok with this. If possible, try to sneak in upside down as well.
-Baller Bands - able to select two different colors
-Please make accessories specific to player's in-game injuries (SimBaller - this may require your help! )
-Oakley Goggles

Shoes
-Higher Res. shoes, please!
-Add more of 'em. 'nuff said. Even if it is through DLC!
Nike - Kobe Zoom 5/6, KD2/3, Air Max Fly By, Flight Lite 2010, Huarache 2010, Sharkley,
Adidas - Pro Model 2010, Infiltrate, Super Beast, Adizero Rose 1.5, Speedcut, Atitude MC's
Converse - EB3

Arena Specific
-Camera Angles! Create a camera angle setting called "Arena" and make it specific to that arena. Don't think your customers can't handle a slight change in angle - we can!
-New Orleans - Benches are reversed; Home is on the left, Visiting on the right (if you are facing the scorer's table)
-Verizon Center: Please fix the arena lighting. You guys have them playing in lights out lighting, and it's not the correct lighting used when watching their games on TV. The crowd should be very visible and the court lighting should be much brighter. The lighting you had in 2k10 was correct.
-Staples Center: Not dark enough on the crowd.
-MSG was very well done!
-Staples Center (Clippers) - Red needs to be more red. Looks more pinkish than red.
-Oracle Arena (Warriors) - Colors are off, especially the blue. Real life vs. In game.
-America Airlines Arena (Heat)

Jerseys
-Nets logo must be larger on the front (as opposed to this).
-The Raptors jerseys all have the maple leaf above the name on the back of the jersey now. In 2k11 it still only had the leaf on the black alternates. Ref. 1, 2, 3.

Other
-Pre-game shootaround in warmups
-Different gear on players during pre-game intro (Beats headphones, backpack, non-suit attire)
-Injury cut scene to the "tunnel"
-Injured players should get helped by at least one or two other teammates, not back away.
-Have the CPU send players to the scorers table for substitutions ... they always seem to run on the court in between FT's or during TO's.
-Different jersey fittings (tight, regular, loose)
-Accessory color selection right before tip-off (for players that wear "team specific" gear)
-Post game interview? Can make it just a cut scene as the announcers wrap up the game.
-Crowds wearing team-specific jerseys.
-Arena court "scuffs" as the season progresses.
-Players falling into fans and interacting with them
-Fans catching the ball and throwing it back when it goes out of bounds
-News from around the league during gameplay
-Other scores and stats from different games showing up in a ticker!
-CAP Tattoos need to be updated: Options for a sleeve, etc.
-Clear the bench on a game winner!

At the Triple A, the Heat's and visiting team's locker room is located behind their bench.

It would be nice to see Classic Teams have proper fitted warmup suits. It would also be nice to see short sleeved ones for teams like the Celtics, Lakers, Pistons, Early 90's Heat, Early 90's Sonics, etc:

Donīt Know about the graphic details of NBA 2K12, but for 2K11, many HD quality faces and jerseys were made:

I like that.

My own thoughts for specific ARENA Improvements. Qouting and Adding on from the 1st page from PARED.

Arena Specific

"-Camera Angles! Create a camera angle setting called "Arena" and make it specific to that arena. Don't think your customers can't handle a slight change in angle - we can!

-New Orleans - Benches are reversed; Home is on the left, Visiting on the right (if you are facing the scorer's table)

EDIT: Also the Overhead Jumbotron should be lower and Bigger! And please Add the Banners.

-Staples Center (Lakers) - Not dark enough on the crowd.

-Staples Center (Clippers) - Red needs to be more red. Looks more pinkish than red.

** WE WANT TO SEE A DIFFERENCE playing @ Clippers(LIGHTS ON) and Lakers(LIGHTS OFF)

-MSG was very well done!

-Oracle Arena (Warriors) - Colors are off, especially the blue. Real life vs. In game.

-America Airlines Arena (Heat)

-Taget Center (TWolves) - Fix Lighting

- Please add the REAL Amway Center in Orlando.
http://www.e-techasia.com/uploads/e4...center_017.jpg

-United Center(Bulls) There Arena is fine. But where are the REAL Championship banners? And Retirement Banners??? I dont see why not? They included the Sixers, Heat, and Celtics banners.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3061/...87eab410_z.jpg

- Finally ADD and AUTHENTICATE Houston's Toyota Center http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2384/...da0cc96c59.jpg

I am just saying and suggesting the "small things" to have aunthenticity in NBA2K also starts with these Arena's atmosphere's. It's where we play! Aside from presentation and Gameplay/Graphics, I believe this somewhat plays a role on making the game fun. Like Madden "Its what you see on Sundays" or MLB 11 The Show "the little things" I feel that 2k should be able to do these things too.

It is kinda like a blower when you see the LAZINESS or (maybe not that they probably dont think it is a big deal) when it comes to the arena's seeing PLAIN BANNERS with just the teams name instead of the actual championships. The "Small things" ya know.

Also I would like to see them atleast aunthenticate some real DLEAGUE Arena's so the atomosphere wont be dry. Or atleast have certain types of default arena's where you can also use it for creating a team.

Thats all I have for now!

Something i loved in NBA 2K9 : Real NBA footage before games.

I'm at work and can't contribute myself, but with the recent news of era specific presentation, can anyone start posting pictures for reference to different era broadcasts?

Also Michael Beasley & Udonis Haslem have each cut their braids.

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but the op included a request for variation in buzzer-beater reactions, so I guess I'll throw this out there since it's along the same lines:

I'd like to see the bench react more logically to what's going on. I don't know how many times I've gone down the lane and just posterized one of the premier stars in the NBA, just to have one guy get off the bench and hold his fist in the air-- the type of reaction we normally see when somebody hits a three. That really breaks the realism for me. When Lebron dunks on KG, I want to see guys exploding off the bench, trying to hold one another back. If Kobe scores five baskets in a row, I want to see the Laker bench recognize that something special is happening and react accordingly.

It would also be nice to see players jaw at the opposing bench after dunking or hitting a three near the opposing bench, and also to see players nod at or get pumped up with their own bench when something elite happens on that end.

Probably late for faces, but I'm hoping the art team went for a return to the 2K9 style of not animating the facial emotions so much. 2K10 and 11 has way better detail and lighting, but any time someone made a face like yelling or lifting their eyebrows, it looked terrible (with the exception of the sig Kobe scowl and MJ tongue).

How did I miss this thread?

For me, it all goes back to court colors..

How the LA CLIPPERS get pink instead of red and the GS Warriors get a bright yellow shade that never existed, is beyond me. I notice this stuff within half a second. And in CH2k8, it was all editable. The immersion factor was not there for me in NBA 2k11. It's that last missing piece.. When it all goes together nicely, and your HDTV presents the colors all in one uniform correct way, i'm happy. It becomes a smooth polished product that many would've even notice.

Either fix the courts or provide some type of editor so we can do it ourselves..

This sort of petty stuff that is fixable on a computer in 5 minutes is irritating to continue to bring up. But it's a part of the game that is essential.

This is what we get in the final version

This is what is modded into the game usually the same day the game drops

And GSW:

What we get:

What we need:

I know the NBA gives out a pamphlet with "team colors" to use and all this other stuff. And I suppose they are supposed to abide by that no matter what. But PLEASE USE COMMON SENSE and change things Colors are the least of one teams worries when it comes to crunch time, so if they follow what's on the pamphlet, it's quickly marked off the to do list and seemingly forgotten about.

Maybe this has been talked about but I didnt see any photos

Nice to see you back around, Ruben. People with your eye for detail are always a great thing to see. Hopefully, posters like you will be around all season with 2K's announcement about year-round updates.

Note: Your screenshot of the G-State (PC) court isn't showing.

Make sure MJ and Pip are given the same respect regarding their faces. In 2K11 Magic Johnson was darker than MJ ...

From the 2k12 video one can see that MJ is a tad darker and his face looks to be revamped. That is good. 2K should make sure to give Pippen the same amount of attention to detail as his face in 2K11 looked kind of generic if compared to Bill Cartwright or Stacey King.

would be great if we could use the players in game as a template to start off with when creating my own my player. so im mixed race yeah i id choose to maybe start my template off with tony parker and then change his features until i feel that he looks like me, that way it gives us a wider range of hair styles and tattoos aswell seeing as though for some reason the game has more hair styles for the player models than for the created players.

I would love this. It would also benefit draft classes greatly, as some prospects look very similar to certain current NBA players.
