Does this mean North Texas will be able to shut down the Oklahoma passing game?
Nah, it just means Zone coverage plays aren't pure garbage anymore, So long as they didn't over do it and make the players friggin physic again. Just because they say the AI will now do this and that, doesn't mean that they'll perfectly execute it every down, as they shouldn't.

I think this addition to the game is not indicating all teams will be dominating and only running zone because everyone knows zones can be picked apart very easily the throws in the game were just plain bad and stupid i.e Jacory Harris(just like in real life j/k ) just to show how they AI in the game plays receiver's routes instead if their play art.
So I mean if the game has some aspect of the game where more upset are likely to happen against the user then I would say yes its possible they could put up a fight against the sooners given its a bad day for the sooners.
Watching it a few more times, I'm starting to feel that they may have made zone coverage a little too strong. Won't know for sure until the game comes out, or from the demo, but a lot of routes that should work on a zone seem useless. If the HB in the flat route is gone, does that mean that zones will destroy a HB screen pass?
Ok here's my question. If they take away the skinny post and the flats, besides running how can u beat the Cover 2 sink? U can run a drag but that's minimal yardage. It's going to get weird.
Playaction action could help, the underneath should be there... If this is done right you will need to know where to throw the ball..

As someone who uses 5- Wide as my primary offense, I run a lot of those quick little out routes... and they will still be there, you'll just have to use them against Man.
Another thing I think people need to realize and is one thing that I think EA has done an excellent job w/ is the Lead Passing. Keep in mind, I am not talking trajectory or loft, but lead passing has been a big key to passing successfully.
Say you have a guy that runs a 10 yard hook route against this new zone defense... instead of just throwing the ball to the guy where the defender can jump in front for a pick or knock it away, you can throw left... if the defender is on his right, right if the defender is on the left, and when he's squared up right behind him, you throw it low... forcing your WR to go down and scoop the ball.
The lead passing feature is something that I rarely see mentioned, but it is a huge benefit to the passing game. Now, if they can get trajectory and loft correct... watch out!
It will be interesting to see how the DB's and WR's interact while they are in zone coverage, it certainly looks much improved from last year though.
These videos are to demonstrate that zone defense can actually be effective, I just hope that as an offense we are able to realistically counter act the zone D.
The clips they show are all with plays where the route is in front of the zone, where they are basically strafing with some minor backpedaling.
The interaction that I'm interested to see is when a guy is on a go route and the QB is throwing over the zone and the zone defender has to backpedal, turn (or hip swivel as Mel Kiper Jr. would say), and get into a full sprint.
Or that there is the threat of a WR running past the zone and then he's able to do a comeback route after getting the DB to turn
Definitely looking forward to see how it all plays out!

I run what is basically the pro-style of your offense. I run a bunch of quick routes, but out of the I form and only 2 or 3 wideouts. Lead Passing is one of my favorite things to use, until I get a less accurate QB (which I'm stuck with for this season. 5 star recruit I got was a scrambler (one or 2 5 stars to ever have interest with me), and his accuracy isn't very good. Tried to use lead passing with him, and it's a crapshoot. Not complaining; that's how it should be. But with the new zones, there must be a way to throw a touch pass instead of just a lob or a bullet.
EA really needs to work on the transition animations. Way too much sliding and gliding over the surface which makes the gameplay look so arcade. Love the improvement on the zone coverage though, that was much needed.

I agree, I noticed guys sliding all over the place like they were on ice. Also, I think guys are strafing and backpedaling WAY too fast. That is a huge problem that Madden and NCAA have been plagued with. WR will be sprinting down the field and the DB's will be easily keeping up with them in a backpedal.
Usually DB's only backpedal for 5-7 yards and rarely do they strafe so much like in NCAA. I don't know if the devs have any body on their team that has played defense, much less real football, and has had to study game film intensely. But if they did, they would realize these kinds of things.
Haumiller still says that TCU shut down the Wisconsin run game, which is apparently his opinion that most disagree with. Spends a good amount of time talking about the 4-2-5 though.
RTG and Dynasty announcements in the future (not that I even needed to post that.)
No huge, breaking news though. Just a lot of things that make the game look far better.
Giving up 200 yrds on the ground is not shutting down a running team.

Their turn and run animation is the WORST!! It's sooooooo slow!!

If you listen to what Ben says, he says: TCU shut down a heavy, high powered running team with it. {4-2-5}. He doesn't say they shut down the running game, he says they shut down the team who just happens to be a heavy, high powered running team.
And when you look at the 19 points Wisconsin scored... it's kinda hard to argue the point. I see what you're saying, I just think you misinterpreted his point.

On at least a couple of the plays, there were better options than the throw that they showed. On the OSU-Oklahoma play, number 81 is open after the CB releases him. There's room for a completion, there. And on the FSU-Miami play, number 6 is open on a hook route.
It very well could be more difficult to pass against zone defense in NCAA 12, but the videos so far have shown us nothing to indicate that zone will be too strong.
The player movement looked a little more fluid in that video. There wasn't quite as much of the twitchy, "humming bird," movement going on there as there was in the first video. That's encouraging.
Now, they just need to eliminate the super-human swats and fix the pass speed/trajectories (so you can actually drop a ball over the linebacker but in front of the safety) and they'll be all set. Still almost 2 months left before the game goes gold.
Its not likely that they fixed the ball speed or trajectory but maybe if we talk about it enough they will do something about it. I hope I'm wrong and that this was addressed for this years game because it will help out the defense just as much as better A.I Zone coverage wil
great video, looks very very good to me. I also hate it when they say more updates coming in the near future haha i just want it all now. But all in all this game looks very promising.
looks good except for the defense strafing and backpedalling...they HAVE to fix this asap!!
-@ 29secs....the guy 2nd from the left...watch as he sidesteps/backpedal/strafes back into whats probably a "purple zone"...this guy can run a 4.4 40yd sidestepping...he literally covers 15-20 yds in like 1.5secs not even sprinting. this is gonna lead to ppl in position that isnt humanly possible given where theyre lining up pre play.
-@ around 1:30 with the tcu intercept...same thing. the guy is strafing/sidestepping/backpedalling and covering more ground faster than the guy running the route underneath him doing a full sprint...its fundamentally wrong and looks awkward.
all in all tho....its nothing we're not already used to. they really need to go full out on the locomotion and implement it like FIFA. thats probably the most "grounded" and "weighted" feel ive felt in a next gen EA title. still cant wait tho to hear more dynasty and gameplay info
