Madden 12 News Post

According to some Darren Rovell sources, if the vote ended today, Peyton Hillis would be on the cover of Madden NFL 12. Strong rumblings around the web say, it's a wrap.

Official word comes Wednesday.

I agree with Hillis not in the top 20. But if Vick is, what the hell happened in this vote. The more popular guy won???

Could be on the fervor of the two teams' respective fan bases with regard to the two players. I still get a sense that even some Eagles' fans haven't fully accepted Vick based on his past, whereas Hillis is probably one of the most popular players on the Browns.

I think the power of the Browns fansbase (having not much to be hot about these days. sorry browns fans) plus some Arkansas love and some anti-vick/ anti vick madden curse votes won Hillis the cover.

I don't think people voted for popularity not in Hillis's case anyway. I really think people wanted to see if a guy like Hillis could win this thing. He's a underdog and a Brownie at that. IMHO, millions upon millions of people wanted to see him win just for the sake of seeing if he could do it, to see if this thing isn't rigged, or whatever reason they had.

Plus as many have already mentioned, Vick...as much as people like/love him there is just as many people that hate/dislike him if not more. I mean if people really think Hillis is more popular than Aaron Rodgers then they need to quit smokin' that good stuff.

Where did I say it was a Browns conspiracy against Vick. And technically it was since they kinda wanted their guy to win it no? And Hillis is "more than deserving"? Give me a break.

I want to be clear that I couldn't care less who won the cover (Vick would have been more entertaining to see) but the Hillis is amazing, all-time, shoulda got the cover even without a tournament-esque stuff is far off base to me at least.

I don't think he deserved anything. Why does he deserve to be on the cover any more than Vick, Aaron Rodgers, AP or even MJD? He had one break out year.

Seriously, I could probably name drop 40 players that are more popular before dropping Hillis's name out of my mouth. Most have continued to do what they do at a elite/very good level for a long time.

Had Josh Cribbs been on the ballot instead of Hillis, nobody would be talking about him. As soon as the Browns last game was over and ESPN moved on, he disappeared off the planet until the cover contest started up.

^^^ Josh who?

King you are all over this. It's just a cover of a video game, no?

Just because, a player has a break out year doesn't mean he's now a top 10 or even a top 20 in terms of being nationally known, a household name or popular than a player that is on a more popular team and especially if that player has been doing it longer than he has.

Sure he'll now become more popular now that he's on the cover of madden but, I wouldn't put him in the top 30 at the least. I mean really there is A LOT of really popular players. Think top 10 or top 5 at each position(the elite) and put them all in front of Hillis plus more than that and the names pile up over him.

Yeah, and I'm bored. And I don't really care about the cover. I've just become less and less of a Hillis fan as the days have gone by and reading these threads.

EA ruined Peyton Hillis for me!!!

How does longevity not have to do with popularity? Popularity begins with how good you are and how long you can do it when it comes to sports.

Mark "The Bird" Fidyrich was more about his antics on the mound vs how good he was.

Him joining a division rival....him embarrassing my team twice a year....him becoming beloved in a city that was totally against his signing at first...I could go on.

And I am just messing about Hillis. Although his hype train is kicking on all gears now.

Hillis knocked out Ray Rice, Matt Ryan, Jamal Charles, Only when it got to the finals and against Vick people get all upset...

Hillis is a rarity and people are going to be a fan of him just for this. With that said, if Hillis was convicted of crimes similar to those which Vick was convicted of, I would be 100% against Hillis on the cover.

I'm a dog lover and today I was with animal control when they took a couple pits away from an owner. When the choke chains came off the "breathing" sound the pits made angered me beyond belief. I felt like crying.

Vick gets to resume his NFL career, make great money, and live in the national spotlight of being a famous NFL athlete. That's not a bad gig.

I'm not going to go out of my way to wish him harm, but I would never support any product he endorses based on personal values.

Once again, if roles were reversed and Hillis had been convicted of those heinous crimes: I would not support any Hillis endorsed product.

I'm not talking about the bracket vote. I'm just talking about popularity in general. As a house hold name, as among the elite at any position you're really gonna put this guy in the top 20?

Not elite, but he will be all those things you said now. Elite, we'll see.
