NASCAR The Game 2011 News Post

I received the game this morning at 9 AM. Please keep in mind, I have only raced 4 times so far and practiced at another.

I am going to answer as many questions as I can that have already been asked, then will keep posting impressions and answer as many questions as I can. I have my PS3 in my office hooked up to the same monitor as my PC, so I have to switch over, so If I don't immediately respond to something, it's because I am on the PS3.

On to the questions, from the other topic.

I wanna know how are the Graphics compared to NASCAR 09? I really can't get a good grasp from the videos. Thanks.

IMO the graphics are a bit better than NASCAR 09. NASCAR 09 was a nice looking game, but I think NTG11 does a better job here. There is a very natural, organic look to it, almost like MLB The Show has. The color palate is there, but it's not too crisp, or overdone.

The car models are nicely executed, and tracks look beautiful.

1. I think we are all wondering about the difficulty of the game and if what we saw in the videos was on some easier level. Is the game more realistic than what the videos may have lead us to believe?

2. Is there a true career mode, or is it just a season, and how does that work?

3. Do you get the sense that you are at 30+ different tracks, or does it feel like most of the tracks run about the same?

1. I set the difficulty for the AI on the highest at Tally, Daytona, and Texas. They were very competitive at Tally and Daytona, and Texas were just better than me....flat out! What I really like so far about the AI, is that they are aggressive, but not cheap. They understand that you are also on the track, and try to be cautious of their surroundings. They did bump draft with me at Tally and Daytona, and I could do the same with them...and there was no sign of them being disturbed by it.

2. Have not jumped into career mode as of yet, but will give it a run as the day progresses.

3. There was a nice difference in the feel from Atlanta, Texas, Daytona and Tally. They didn't feel that same at all, and based off early impressions, they did a nice job trying to individualize and realistically replicate each track.

Pre-race presentation-Is there a full pace lap with the driver/grid position rundown like EA did a few years back? Very tv-style touch that was very nice. Also, any featured drivers pre-race?

Wreck/caution-how long is it between the wreck, caution and going into the pace lap? Time enough to 'go thru' the wreck if it happened up in front and you're in the back of the pack, or just 'there's a wreck' and then two seconds later in the caution lap?

Keep in mind, I have not done season or career, but in "race now" option, there was no pre-race or any presentation. It literally took you to the race about 100 yards away from the start finish line.

In regards to wrecking, you get to watch the whole wreck. It doesn't take you away to a cut scene instantly. I was in one at Tally, and it seemed like it lasted 20 seconds, and I was in one at Texas, and it only lasted about 10 seconds. Then it gives you the option to pit under caution...if you choose no, it takes to a few seconds before the green flag drops again.

I am very curious about the realism of the track surface. For example, Are there bumps in on the lowside of turns 1 and 2 at Las Vegas? Do the bumps upset the car and make you create a setup that can handle those bumps?

That leads to my other question. How much does messing with the setup actually change the feel of the car? When the track rubbers up, does the car get tighter?

From what I have seen, the bumps feel like they are barely noticeable. I felt a little bit at Daytona in turns 3 going into 4(keep in mind its still Daytona 10 on my copy) but nothing that really forced me to white knuckle the wheel at all. When an AI car gets into you, you notice that a lot more than any bumps on the track surface. If you're hoping to really feel the surface bumps and have it effect the car....probably not going to be real happy.

I will say the the driving model is really well done though, and you truly feel connected to the track surface.

Ok, going to go test some more, and try to get some photos, but videos may be very difficult. I am trying to find a way to do it right now. I will be back in a few to answer some more questions and give some solid impressions.

They did a lot of things right in this game, but another 6 months of development title, this would have been a AAA title. I love the game for what it is, but upset at the online options, as we had a huge league planned.
Excellent post. People need to remember that this is Eutechnyx's first foray into NASCAR and you can't expect the first attempt to be perfect. Judging by what you've posted of you interactions with the development team, the seem like they are committed to making a great game, but they need time to work out all the kinks. Sure the game has flaws, but we need to report those flaws in a mature manner so that the devs will want to continue interacting with and looking to the community for support. Overly negative posts will only serve to alienate the developers from the community and won't help them patch the flaws in this game and make future versions of the game even better.

Dont get me wrong i have iracing and i knew this game wasnt going to be anything like it at all i got this game to have some fun and to get away sometimes from the seriousness of iracing but this games online mode so far is broken and i really hope they can fix it cause this game can be really really good i just dont want them to not try to fix it at all and then the gaming world will just get all negitive things about this game and who knows there might not be a nascar the game 2012.

I have seen this as evidenced in my Michigan video last night. I do not see it at every track, and I do not see it all the time. It's there enough for me to notice though. It feels like they are programmed to be a little too cautious around each other.

2 no caution when they need to be

Post patch on the PS3, not once for me. Every time I thought the yellow should have dropped, it has

3 ai rubber banding even in long race whole field staying within 10-15 sec.

I personally have not seen this at all. But most of my races were short, as I was trying to get impressions with you guys. I did 4-5 30 lappers though, and really never ran into this....

4 ai crash while pitting under yellow

Pre-patch yes.....not since the patch dropped, but I have only ran a race of significant length twice after the patch.

5 ai no dammage while my car is killed in crashes

Yep, I brought up the damage issue almost immediately. Its there, but so inconsistent. You have to beat the **** out of the AI car for it to look like yours

6 loose 20 spots with green flag stop even after all has stoped

Not quite sure what you mean here bro...please explain a little more in depth

7 to easy to get pole on any level and all levels still to easy

Getting the pole on the PS3 version for me, on very hard with no assist on, is a chore, and I feel lucky when I get it. Please keep in mind though, I have only race maybe 2-3 races with qualifying on post patch. Most of the races I did were short for impressions.
8 caution lights stay on all the time

Have not noticed this at all for the PS3, not saying some people haven't noticed this on the PS3 version, but I have not at all...ever.
9 floating spoilers on frount of car hood
Once again, never saw this once on the PS3 version pre-patch or post patch.

I have been enjoying the heck out my 360 copy, Online is still messed up but no biggie at the moment. I've had a blast in create a car, even without the manufacturer decals and headlight decals. There are some issues but the game is FUN and nothing some patched won't clear up I think.

thanks sounds like the patch did a lot better on ps3 , number 6 what i mean is say its time for green flag stops..evey one pits in like a 3 or 4 lap window. say im running 3rd and have a clean stop i always seem to loose 20-25 spots..plus alot of green flag stops 90 percent of the ai cars pit in a big pack and just bang and bounce off each other coming on and off pit road

Yea I downloaded a patch but have no idea what it did, as I didn't notice any differences?

After reading the impressions on this thread, I'm even more excited for this game. I hope I have time Friday to go pick it up and play it.

I never played NR2003 or iRacing, so I won't be able to compare. And even since I heard about this game, I knew there were going to be bugs, especially since this was the first attempt from a company that isn't even American (correct me on that if I'm wrong). I'm really just looking forward to playing a new Nascar game after, what, three years of Nascar 09. I don't care about glitches or weird online or anything like that, I just want a game that'll be fun to play every once in a while and from what I heard, this is the game. I hope 2012 will improve on a lot of stuff, something that EA didn't do.

Once I get the game Friday and able to actually play it, I'll give a more in-depth review.

I do have a question though. If your a custom driver in Career, can you change the paint schemes during the season? Like say during the night race at Daytona, I want a 4th of July paint scheme. Can I change it just for that race, then switch back to my regular scheme?

You didn't notice any AI differences either? What about the caution lights?

# 1155 AEJustin @ 03/30/11 03:10 AM
Caution lights seem to be ok now, I didn't get to play a whole lot of it before the patch though, but that part looks to be ok anyways.

My impressions so far (PS3):

+ Good physics and driving feels like NR2003
+ Great HUD
+ Pretty Good AI (playing on hard with traction control assist and anti-lock at 1, it isn't a walk in the park for me even though i am a veteran of NR2003)
+ Pit stops and yellow flags are fine so far for me.I'm sure i'll encounter some bugs later. No worries for me.I'm having fun with a Nascar game after 8+ years. If i want hardcore racing there are still iRacing and NR2003.Let me clear some things.NR2003 retail unmodded had worse AI on track than NTG2011.After the mods the AI was nearly perfect. That's why i always support pc gaming. If NTG2011 had a pc release the modders would make the game better.

- Limited career and modes
- Some unexpected AI slowdowns maybe because the code "wants" AI to avoid big crashes.
- Unequal damage between AI and User.I think it's devs decision. Not a big deal. It's patchable.

* Didn't try online aspect.I am an offline user-gamer.

Raced 50 laps at Atlanta and some good and some frustrating things. First the good the yellow did come out for the most part when it should have. Other times i felt like i had to crash in the other cars to finally get one. The physics are good and the cars looked nice. The roof flaps came up when rear tires lifted off the ground. During 1 of my pit stops one of my crew men tore off a windshield cover. Kevin Harvick led all 50 laps and really never had anybody challenge him. The one diver that gained the most spots went to Paul Menard who started 24 and finished in the top ten. Really strange seeing the AI cars slow down in the corners. If Eutechnyx can get the online and AI kinks worked out we could have a heck of game to play. Stranges bug i had was at Richmond. I was spun out and wanted to pit so the AI sent my car down pit road but i never did pit. The car just drove through pit road and when i go to the back stretch another AI car was just sitting there never moved. The game wouldnt move on from the caution we just kept going around the track. I finally just switched to Atlanta. Nice thing in the pause menu is that you can switch to another track without having to go back to the main menu.

i plan to do the exact same thing today. Played TW all night and enjoyed a non-buggy experience, not to mention getting to play augusta. I recognize that the TW series has had a number of years to work out all of the glitches, and i hope this nascar series is around to do the same. until then, however, i will sit it out.

I think they definately nailed this one although there is alot if problems that need tuned. Online could be fun once the servers get worked out. I ran Daytona in my career and DNFd because I ran out of fuel came 43rd. Then at Auto Club I qualified 24th got up to 16th couldnt get further. Pit stops came I got flagged then the field pitted with 2 to go and I ended up 6th
