NASCAR The Game 2011 News Post

I received the game this morning at 9 AM. Please keep in mind, I have only raced 4 times so far and practiced at another.

I am going to answer as many questions as I can that have already been asked, then will keep posting impressions and answer as many questions as I can. I have my PS3 in my office hooked up to the same monitor as my PC, so I have to switch over, so If I don't immediately respond to something, it's because I am on the PS3.

On to the questions, from the other topic.

I wanna know how are the Graphics compared to NASCAR 09? I really can't get a good grasp from the videos. Thanks.

IMO the graphics are a bit better than NASCAR 09. NASCAR 09 was a nice looking game, but I think NTG11 does a better job here. There is a very natural, organic look to it, almost like MLB The Show has. The color palate is there, but it's not too crisp, or overdone.

The car models are nicely executed, and tracks look beautiful.

1. I think we are all wondering about the difficulty of the game and if what we saw in the videos was on some easier level. Is the game more realistic than what the videos may have lead us to believe?

2. Is there a true career mode, or is it just a season, and how does that work?

3. Do you get the sense that you are at 30+ different tracks, or does it feel like most of the tracks run about the same?

1. I set the difficulty for the AI on the highest at Tally, Daytona, and Texas. They were very competitive at Tally and Daytona, and Texas were just better than me....flat out! What I really like so far about the AI, is that they are aggressive, but not cheap. They understand that you are also on the track, and try to be cautious of their surroundings. They did bump draft with me at Tally and Daytona, and I could do the same with them...and there was no sign of them being disturbed by it.

2. Have not jumped into career mode as of yet, but will give it a run as the day progresses.

3. There was a nice difference in the feel from Atlanta, Texas, Daytona and Tally. They didn't feel that same at all, and based off early impressions, they did a nice job trying to individualize and realistically replicate each track.

Pre-race presentation-Is there a full pace lap with the driver/grid position rundown like EA did a few years back? Very tv-style touch that was very nice. Also, any featured drivers pre-race?

Wreck/caution-how long is it between the wreck, caution and going into the pace lap? Time enough to 'go thru' the wreck if it happened up in front and you're in the back of the pack, or just 'there's a wreck' and then two seconds later in the caution lap?

Keep in mind, I have not done season or career, but in "race now" option, there was no pre-race or any presentation. It literally took you to the race about 100 yards away from the start finish line.

In regards to wrecking, you get to watch the whole wreck. It doesn't take you away to a cut scene instantly. I was in one at Tally, and it seemed like it lasted 20 seconds, and I was in one at Texas, and it only lasted about 10 seconds. Then it gives you the option to pit under caution...if you choose no, it takes to a few seconds before the green flag drops again.

I am very curious about the realism of the track surface. For example, Are there bumps in on the lowside of turns 1 and 2 at Las Vegas? Do the bumps upset the car and make you create a setup that can handle those bumps?

That leads to my other question. How much does messing with the setup actually change the feel of the car? When the track rubbers up, does the car get tighter?

From what I have seen, the bumps feel like they are barely noticeable. I felt a little bit at Daytona in turns 3 going into 4(keep in mind its still Daytona 10 on my copy) but nothing that really forced me to white knuckle the wheel at all. When an AI car gets into you, you notice that a lot more than any bumps on the track surface. If you're hoping to really feel the surface bumps and have it effect the car....probably not going to be real happy.

I will say the the driving model is really well done though, and you truly feel connected to the track surface.

Ok, going to go test some more, and try to get some photos, but videos may be very difficult. I am trying to find a way to do it right now. I will be back in a few to answer some more questions and give some solid impressions.

I'm on PS3, and like my previous post I am really enjoying the game... So speak for yourself when you say "everybody" hates the game

I know the game was a let down but is it really as bad as everyone is making out to be?? It beats EA hands down.

Just update drivers, add a track or two, and it would be nice to have a choice in what point system to run, pre Brian France Jr or this new age gimmick chase stuff. I wonder how their meetings go before settling on their direction. This should be one of the easiest sports to create a game for, especially since it has been done already (pc's Nascar 2003), now with the ps3, they should be able to do whatever palpayrus has done......sure is a head scatcher. I'am glad some people have found some entertainment value out of it, $60 isn't a drop in the bucket for most gamers.....I just don't know if patches can fix this game, hope I'm wrong, cause I love Nascar racing games....
First off Eutechnyx doesn't have the rights to use the coding and programming that Papyrus used for NR2K3. Secondly, the programming used to make that game is nearly a decade old and probably wouldn't work on modern platforms. Finally, it's been said a million times already that a later patch will have all the updates for 2011 (points, schedule, paint schemes).

Enough already, man! I also write for this site and I purchased my copy via Amazon yesterday. I will not be opening my copy... Instead, I'll be sending it back for a full refund. I took into consideration what Bob, TCrouch and others have stated and I made my decision based on their observations.

No need to be mad at others for not taking into consideration multiple POVs. Most 'games' have bugs and that's just the way it is. In this day and age, a little patience will save you some aggravation and frustration.

BTW: Bob also enjoys long walks on the beach and has a thing for butterflies! LOL

I also enjoy Nascar 2003 a ton. IMO, I think that game was just ok. It was the mod community that made that game what it was.

Yeah...its always a smart *** comeback..right. You know there were 3 other guys who had the 360 version in here giving impressions that liked the game also. They are not writers, but were they getting paid also?

Its people like you who can't discuss a difference of opinion about something because A. they are not smart enough B. Because they are punks.

So they just go onto message boards and write smartass remarks to cover it up........

If you would have decided to act like an adult, and talk about our different opinions, I would gladly do it. You have to take the scumbag route and act like your 12 years old.

I bought the game today and due to the fact that the 360 version has more
issues than the PS3 version. I am going to return my unopened copy for
something else. And for you dynamitekid please show some respect for the
guys here at this site. I have been here since 2005 and I always respected
and trusted the opinions of the MATURE members on this site.

As far videos go, the option I was hoping would work, is not. I am hoping it has a video mode, in which I can record, the upload. This next time I turn the game on(after a little lunch) I am going to test with a controller, and try photo mode...and hopefully videos can done somehow.

By the way........the game controls just awesome with a wheel!
hey blue if you get a chance run some on the 360 and let us know if they are there is a big difference in the way they play

I love when people sign up to be a member the day a game comes out. Then have the nerve to bash the game and bash members of this site. People have nothing else better to do with their time.

Sad, just sad!

Anyway, back to the impressions.

I'm thinking about picking this up tomorrow when I get off works. It seems people are against the 360 version versus the ps3 version. Have they talked about a demo for this? It would help with some people that are on the fence with it.

Looking forward to hearing you thoughts bng34. I'm a casual fan of nascar, but I'm on the fence as to which version to get. Thanks for the help.

Bro...i had heard rumors about a demo, but with the issues going on right now, I can't see them spending time on a demo, as opposed to trying to fix some of these issues. As far as which version, if you head over to the official site, there are 2-3 threads about people with the PS3 version really enjoying it, versus basically none for the 360 version.

This is no inside info DJ, just merely my thought.

Yep, I was all excited when Fed Ex came today with the 360 version, and then I started reading all of the issues, and just played TWoods 12 all day long. It's sitting on my desk in front of me as I type, unopened.

I think everyone knows about the 2011 points, schedule, and paint schemes coming at a later date with a patch. Its still unacceptable to call the game NASCAR 2011 and not have the 2011 points and schedule at the least. I can see why the developers would call it 2011 though it has no 2011 setups. Heck, I havent gotten past their 1 season career mode being called career mode. Its pretty bad when EA put out a better product 3 years ago, and NASCAR 09 wasnt that great either. This game is pretty bad overall.

the worst are
1 ai slowing in turns and bunching
2 no caution when they need to be
3 ai rubber banding even in long race whole field staying within 10-15 sec.
4 ai crash while pitting under yellow
5 ai no dammage while my car is killed in crashes
6 loose 20 spots with green flag stop even after all has stoped
7 to easy to get pole on any level and all levels still to easy
8 caution lights stay on all the time
9 floating spoilers on frount of car hood

This is one thing I noticed as well. Was running a race at Vegas and hit some guy at the right angle to make him spin out. he ended up more than half a lap behind the field, but was caught back up to me within 5 laps.

See block-O I can respect that bro. I understand you had bigger hopes for this game, and I get that. it really is all about perspective and expectations. I don't mean this in a way that you have to verify your feelings with me, to make sure it's OK. I mean it in the way of understanding how some people love this game, some people like this game, and some people downright hate this game.

i dont know about you guys but i think iam turn the spotter off. it sounds like its pre programmed and doesnt really tell you whats going on in real time. there was a time in an online race at daytona where i was by myself for the last 4 laps and every 10 seconds i heard "your clear" "clear" it got really annoying there was no one with in 15 seconds around me. and the "the hendrick boys are going to want pizza" is getting annoying also.

I really think what you have here is a case of company with huge aspirations, and only 18 months to develop a true NASCAR video game from scratch. If you look at the career mode, it's like the infrastructure is there, but it wasn't fleshed out. The same thing goes for the on-line portion...infrastructure there, not fleshed out.

They did a lot of things right in this game, but another 6 months of development title, this would have been a AAA title. I love the game for what it is, but upset at the online options, as we had a huge league planned.
