NASCAR The Game 2011 News Post

I received the game this morning at 9 AM. Please keep in mind, I have only raced 4 times so far and practiced at another.

I am going to answer as many questions as I can that have already been asked, then will keep posting impressions and answer as many questions as I can. I have my PS3 in my office hooked up to the same monitor as my PC, so I have to switch over, so If I don't immediately respond to something, it's because I am on the PS3.

On to the questions, from the other topic.

I wanna know how are the Graphics compared to NASCAR 09? I really can't get a good grasp from the videos. Thanks.

IMO the graphics are a bit better than NASCAR 09. NASCAR 09 was a nice looking game, but I think NTG11 does a better job here. There is a very natural, organic look to it, almost like MLB The Show has. The color palate is there, but it's not too crisp, or overdone.

The car models are nicely executed, and tracks look beautiful.

1. I think we are all wondering about the difficulty of the game and if what we saw in the videos was on some easier level. Is the game more realistic than what the videos may have lead us to believe?

2. Is there a true career mode, or is it just a season, and how does that work?

3. Do you get the sense that you are at 30+ different tracks, or does it feel like most of the tracks run about the same?

1. I set the difficulty for the AI on the highest at Tally, Daytona, and Texas. They were very competitive at Tally and Daytona, and Texas were just better than me....flat out! What I really like so far about the AI, is that they are aggressive, but not cheap. They understand that you are also on the track, and try to be cautious of their surroundings. They did bump draft with me at Tally and Daytona, and I could do the same with them...and there was no sign of them being disturbed by it.

2. Have not jumped into career mode as of yet, but will give it a run as the day progresses.

3. There was a nice difference in the feel from Atlanta, Texas, Daytona and Tally. They didn't feel that same at all, and based off early impressions, they did a nice job trying to individualize and realistically replicate each track.

Pre-race presentation-Is there a full pace lap with the driver/grid position rundown like EA did a few years back? Very tv-style touch that was very nice. Also, any featured drivers pre-race?

Wreck/caution-how long is it between the wreck, caution and going into the pace lap? Time enough to 'go thru' the wreck if it happened up in front and you're in the back of the pack, or just 'there's a wreck' and then two seconds later in the caution lap?

Keep in mind, I have not done season or career, but in "race now" option, there was no pre-race or any presentation. It literally took you to the race about 100 yards away from the start finish line.

In regards to wrecking, you get to watch the whole wreck. It doesn't take you away to a cut scene instantly. I was in one at Tally, and it seemed like it lasted 20 seconds, and I was in one at Texas, and it only lasted about 10 seconds. Then it gives you the option to pit under caution...if you choose no, it takes to a few seconds before the green flag drops again.

I am very curious about the realism of the track surface. For example, Are there bumps in on the lowside of turns 1 and 2 at Las Vegas? Do the bumps upset the car and make you create a setup that can handle those bumps?

That leads to my other question. How much does messing with the setup actually change the feel of the car? When the track rubbers up, does the car get tighter?

From what I have seen, the bumps feel like they are barely noticeable. I felt a little bit at Daytona in turns 3 going into 4(keep in mind its still Daytona 10 on my copy) but nothing that really forced me to white knuckle the wheel at all. When an AI car gets into you, you notice that a lot more than any bumps on the track surface. If you're hoping to really feel the surface bumps and have it effect the car....probably not going to be real happy.

I will say the the driving model is really well done though, and you truly feel connected to the track surface.

Ok, going to go test some more, and try to get some photos, but videos may be very difficult. I am trying to find a way to do it right now. I will be back in a few to answer some more questions and give some solid impressions.

One more thing I will add to my impression on page 50 is that the entering pit road part is done very well. I love that you have to meet pit road speed before entering otherwise you get black flagged.

On another note, they need to change how the whole pit options are done. You have very little time to choose what you want but on top of that you have to fill up this meter on the left if you want a full tank of gas. I think it should have been the other way around. The default would be to get a full tank of gas and if you want less you click it down.

I can not tell you how many times I have come down pit road, made some adjustment to my car and came out with no gas. Now, I do the gas thing first which takes valuable time away from all other adjustments. It is a MUST fix.

Lastly, I will say that when a caution flies don't spend too much time watching the wreck if you intend on pitting. You have to hit the pit now button right away. It has happened to me multiple times that I simply do not pit because I am so into watching the replay of the wreck, that I don't hit the pit now button.

No force feedback at all? Hmm that's interesting.

Blue talked about great feedback from the wheel but he was playing with the Logitech GT wheel (I think) on PS3.

Yeah I had asked Dave on twitter about my wheel and if it would work with the game. He told me it would work but was not specifically tuned for the game. I know the g25 and g27 wheels were specifically tuned. I think that is why BLUE is stating how awesome the handling model feels with his wheel. I will be getting my PS3 copy on Tuesday and will definitely try it out for comparison.

Also, it is my understanding that the Porsche wheel much like the Thrust master wheel were released earlier this year and I think they may not have time to specifically tune them for this game. I am sure though that if enough people complain it will get patched in if it hasn't been already done with the day one patch. We have to wait and see.

Well he is playing with a Fantech wheel, which may be the cause of this. I am very happy to own a Xbox wheel for the 360 which I feel will be fine and have alot of force feedback. I can tell you that FF helps me keep my car straight as I can feel the car more with it. I do not, and will not use a controller no matter how good it feels.

Can anyone tell me how this compares to EA's miserable attempts? Where would you compare it as to Nascar 09?

I think the important thing is...overall they seem to have done a darn good job for a first year title. Sure there will be some glitches and things we dislike, but from everything I have read...this is a very solid Freshman release...imagine what it can be in only a year or two...will definitely pick this game up.

I asked Dave about this on Twitter a few minutes ago and he just got back to me saying "Only official Microsoft wheels are fully supported". Hopefully that means my white Microsoft wheel will have FF. I thought Fanatec would've been in that category as well tho. Very interesting.

Shows off the AI a bit. Guy isnt that great at driving yet it seems. Notice how the top 3 take off and stay in each others draft till the white flag then the guy in 3rd tries to make a move.

CORRECTION: It does work. I was told by a friend that at times the force feedback comes and goes on Nascar 09 so I thought I would give it another shot today. It actually WORKED and I couldn't be happier. The force feedback felt very good. The handling model actually feels even better with the wheel.

I am SORRY if this caused any concerns but I swear yesterday there was zero force feedback. I am so glad it works.

The only thing missing is the settings page to setup the wheel in game but luckily this wheel allows you to adjust settings.

So For those that have it, what would you rank it from 1-10 on just the dang this game is fun factor?

I will be re-evaluating the game's handling model after my recent findings. I will come back after testing this for a little bit with updated impressions.

Thanks for re-checking. You probably gave half of my XBOX league a mini-stroke bc I know a lot of them have Fanatec wheels haha.

He's on the XBOX. It doesn't allow screenshots to be saved to a flash drive like the PS3. Unless he has a PVR or wants to use a camera, I don't think he'll be able to.

Ugh this is what I've been hearing and fearing... I dunno who was saying earlier that you can play multiple consecutive seasons, but this is a real issue for me. I'm kind of on the fence w this game, and I think that limitation to "career mode" (it should really just be called "season mode") makes me not want to spend the 60 bucks

After about an hour racing with the Porsche Fanatec GT2 wheel, I can honestly say they that the sim to arcade ratio definitely goes up to about 75/25. The game feels much better now with the force feedback, the only thing is the wheel does not produce force feedback constantly.

I was told the same thing happens with this wheel in Nascar 09. I had no problems like that while playing Formula One, but for some reason this tends to happen after a run or if I pause the screen. I hope this can be fixed with a patch but for now when it works, it's AWESOME!

hey guys,

Anyone else experiencing freezing when playing this game? It has happened to me 3 times now..all while designing cars. I have yet to have any freezing while actually racing but the game has frozen 3 times while in car designer (and it sucks cause I lost my work each time)

just wondering if anyone else has seen this. trying to determine if its my xbox or the game.

thanks

I haven't but I really only designed one car. There will be a day one patch which could address any freezing issues, if there are any in game.
