MLB 11 The Show News Post

What you’ll see is around 10 minutes of gameplay at Miller Park (which has actually been changed since this video was shot.) This is as close to direct-feed that we could get, so the quality is a bit less than perfect. Also, the audio was removed completely as all you could hear was us idiots talking in the background. This is NOT FINAL CODE, and was actually changing throughout the week that we were there. Some things to focus on are the updated player models (no more T-Rex) and the analog controls.

(The team has given permission for me to post this video)

have you posted them yet or will we have to wait a week or two?

this has me excited
I have a lot more footage, but I've been extremely busy since I got back from the event. I hope to get some more edited, and hopefully approved this week sometime.

re:specific "I'm worried about x" posts from everyone here:
As the other guys have said more than a few times, please don't judge a lot of specifics on what you're seeing here. Even Miller Park has had some pretty big changes since I shot this footage. My intentions for getting it posted are more about showing the general changes in the game this year, especially the updated player models etc.

To placate you all a bit in the interim, I just posted a bunch of screenshots to our website. Some have already been seen in another thread here, but I posted a good number of new shots as well.

I didn't read through 10 pages of comments, but here's what I'm impressed with:

Whether a batted ball or (especially) a thrown ball, like from an outfielder to an infielder, the in-motion ball physics and 'sped-up' feel of the overall action. Hopefully this is not just a visual trick from the video, because it makes it look much better. Looks like the player animations, specifically the batters swinging, also are quicker--which makes it seem more lifelike. Now if they could just get the pitchers to throw more realistically (faster animation).

I am not trying to be negitive or anything but does it worrie anyone else, cause I keep hearing that they are still doing this, they are still doing that.... But the game is coming out in over a month. I mean how much time do they have to get things in and for copies to be made? I would of thought that this process would of been in motion by now but what do I know.

Your exactly right, not much! SCEA is very well aware of their time lines and what needs to be completed. You would be surprised by the dynamic changes that occur to the game on a daily basis.

That was one of the most surprising things that I saw, that they were changing so many things while we were there.

That is why these guys rock. I do not think people realize that most dev studios do not do these types of things. It is a rarity in the industry, that I hope most posters on here do not take for granted.

There are a ton of other games out there that could benefit from this type of interaction.

Hey PSnation, thanks for those pics. They all look great. The pictures that I love the most are the ones in LA. The dreary day looks great

The following one looked awesome:

That's not fair to say. I can tell you that other companies do similar events... you just don't know about it.

I'll probably regret getting in the middle of this ...but, as long as you're being a stickler, he did say "most" and "rarity".

I didn't take it that he meant "no other" dev teams do it. I know others that do, and I'd be surprised if EN didn't...

When I beat Black Ops, in the credits, the list of "testers" was never ending. LOL! So other teams do provide their base some pre release interaction, no doubt (And I know what EN meant, btw).

I've made posts similar to EN, and I have to say, OS provides such direct line to Developement that it's hard not to appreciate it. If other communities are like this with other games, I've yet to find one. I'm sure it does exist. I just think Enigma wanted to remind all of us that what the Dev's do isn't mandatory, and we should all (A) be grateful for their openness, and (B) not blow it.

Gosh, that's one "little thing" that bugs me big-time. I play strictly Franchise mode with fantasy drafted rosters and I hate (H A T E) seeing a "NY" hat on players' pics on my Padres. It gets pretty confusing when you surf through the whole league looking for a trade piece or something. Can't they come up with a photoshop method for this already?? Or better yet...why even have their picture? Have an option to just show the team logo for which they're currently on.

There was already a large discussion about this already where Knight gauged interest in how many people would want the OPTION to have all generated faces instead of the real pics, so player's hats could change accordingly. That would be a much better solution than your just team logo idea.

There was a lot of support for this idea as an option, but unfortunately I don't anticipate it will make it into this year's game.

Cool, is that in an '11 thread, or a '10 thread?

Yea, computer generated face would work too, I mean they do that anyway for the "new" players. You know the ones...their card picture always shows them throwing or batting right handed even though they are left handed. Or vice versa.

If we have a scan for that player we can't generate one.
