Madden NFL 11 News Post

First off, we have been aware of a roster de-sync issue that resulted in more disconnects during some online games - primarily affecting Online Franchise and Madden Ultimate Team games. Rest assured we have a fix slated for this upcoming title update, and more details are explained below.

Ultimate Team ‘Rivals Pack'
The biggest delivery for this update is a set of features built around Madden Ultimate Team, and this signifies a few months of development work as we couldn't squeeze these features in by the ship date. The "Rivals Pack" delivers three new features for Ultimate Team, allowing you to make new rivals in Tournaments, face off against old rivals in Play vs. Friends, and renew some rivalries with Refer a Friend.

New Feature #1: Tournaments
You guys have asked for Tournaments in Ultimate Team for a while now, and we're happy to say that they will be available in the next title update. Here are some details about this brand new feature:
1. Each tournament has entrance criteria which can range from specific players to minimum team skill or chemistry.
2. Once you enter the tournament, you'll be matched up against another tournament player and battle it out. The owner who wins the game will move on to the next round while the loser has to start the tournament over.
3. You win coins every time you advance and if you advance to the last round and win, you'll earn even more coins and you might even win a rare player.
4. Tournaments, like Collections, are dynamic and new tournaments can (and will) be added throughout the season.
5. We're also planning on having special promotional tournaments where we release an insert for the weekend and those that find that insert can enter a special tournament.

New Feature #2: Play With Friends
Another feature the community has asked for is the ability to play against your friends in Ultimate Team, and that will finally be available in Title Update #4. You can challenge your friends anytime they are online and play a game of MUT.

New Feature #3: Refer a Friend
One of our favorite new features is Refer a Friend. If you have buddies that play Madden, but they haven't joined Ultimate Team, you can earn coins for getting them to join up. A brand new screen has been added that allows you to keep track of your invites and your rewards from the friends that have accepted the referral.

Uniform Updates

Here's a list of uniform updates that will be rolled out when Title Update #4 releases:
• Added alternate tops for the 3 Vikings jerseys featuring the 50th anniversary patch being worn this season.
• Added the current Redskins Home and Away uniforms. In addition the socks issues are fixed.
• Added the current Chargers powder blue uniform.
• Added a uniform top for the Saints including the Super Bowl Champions patch as seen in their home opener.

Content Updates
Here's a list of some of the other changes we've made to Madden NFL 11 that will be rolled out when Title Update #4 releases:
• Fixed a couple of random Madden Moments stability issues.
• Fixed the user's ability to view play art manually if the opponent on defense holds LT/L2 pre-snap.
• Fixed an exploit where the user could audible when coming out in the Bronco Heavy formation with a HB or WR at QB.
• Fixed an exploit where after pressing the square/X button on defense a user is able to hold down on the L-stick which allows the defender to release off the LOS and go after the QB as soon as the ball is hiked.
• Fixed a hanging issue with onside kicks in Madden Moments Live and offline Madden Moments.
• Fixed an issue causing a high percentage of disconnects in Online Franchise, Madden Ultimate Team, and other online head-to-head games

Well, that's it for the update on Title Update #4. Expect it to arrive at the end of this month or the first week of November with all the features and improvements you see listed above. If you have any questions or comments feel free to hop over to the EA Forums to discuss.

Wow Im highly disappointed. No fixes for the defense. They really don't see that this needs to be addressed.

I would have been happy if they at least addressed the zone coverage assignments.

Also if you still need that football fix. NCAA is solid. Much better in the A.I dept than Madden is.

So it would make sense for him to take 10 seconds to tweak a slider on All- Madden to stop this issue he's complaining about instead of requesting a patch because he's spending time on All-Madden level where that type of stuff is known to happen all the time.

But then again you have guys that feel everything should be perfect for them and if not they start complaining even about things they can simply fix themselves but they are too lazy
Nah, it's not lazy. This post a few pages back sums it up for me.

If you are going to tweak sliders correctly, it takes a lot of time to get what you want. I have put hours upon hours tweaking them, and refuse to do it again.
Sliders shouldn't be there to give me a realistic or fair game which is what I am looking for. I always thought sliders where there to compensate for an area where I may be lacking in skill.

And I am not looking for a perfect game for me. I am looking for a game that plays like the game I see on Sunday which is what the mantra is supposed to be. I don't think that is too much to ask for $60 when the gameplay was so much better in previous iterations.

That is not a valid complaint IMO.....that is a personal problem with the game between him and the level he's playing on. No patch is needed for that type of stuff
And by the way, I wasn't mad. Not in the least. Maybe a little disappointed, but there was no anger in my post and no bashing of EA or the development team. You on the other hand seemed to have tweaked a nerve. The issue that I brought up is an issue that many others have echoed.

# 65 JaymeeAwesome @ 10/19/10 10:30 PM
Sure I'm disappointed that many of what people requested was not tweaked in this patch but I'm still happy with the game. I found a slider set that does what I need.

All of you that complain...EA already got your money this year no matter if you trade it in or not and you know what? You are going to spend the same money next year. That's all a business wants...to move products and unless people aren't buying the product there's no need to bust their butt to make an amazing product. I respect that.

# 66 youALREADYknow @ 10/19/10 11:01 PM
Gameplanning. It's hard to believe that they will release another full title update without fixing this. It's a cover feature.

# 67 LionsFanNJ @ 10/19/10 11:11 PM
Hmm. Well i traded Madden in for NBA 2k and planned on hearing about the last patch to decide if i would buy it again. With the focus seemingly all on Ultimate Team now and minimal on the field fixes i think NCAA will be my football fix this year. Dissappointing really as i know Ian and Co. see these issues but decide other things take priority.

Well, i'll keep an eye out on M12 anyway. At least they've outright said they'll work on franchise for next year, and I'm sure some more fixes are forthcoming. Well it is what it is.

# 68 49UNCFan @ 10/19/10 11:17 PM
Madden bye bye! I'm going to buy it used next year!!!

# 69 PaperBoyx703 @ 10/19/10 11:18 PM
Yeah I believe that everyone complaining should take a deep breathe and realize nothing you say can force the developer's hands in any way possible. Once you buy they are happy and could care less if you complain or not.

Simply dont but the game if you want a perfect game, which you wont ever have a one so you will be without a football game. If you buy it make the best of it and dont pay attention to the little things.

Yes we all want realism, but to sit there and constantly mash your keyboards because people who aren't within your reach are ignoring you or turning a blind eye to what your posting and wishing for is pointless there is no need for the added stress.

Either play or dont. Because im sure over half the ones who have the copy of the game and are complaining will go back and continue to play the game despite its flaws, until 2012 and then the whole cycle will repeat itself.

I agree with an earlier post from MkHarsh33, Lets NOT say 2k titles were perfect, and 2k5 at its time was realistic but when i look back at all the titles then a now I just laugh at how much I was excited to play those things compared to what i have now. People arent ever going to be happy with everything but all the ones posting these problems have a point and all who are "defending" or coming up with suggestions have a point.

The only way to get the "sunday gameplay' we want so much, is to actually go sign a contract suit up, put on a helmet and hit someone, other than that your asking too much from a video game plain and simple.

Yes EA has an exclusive license and arent, to what we say, doing the best they can, paying the 60 bucks and wishing for a miracle and then getting disappointed and bashing EA for a game we bought isnt going to help any matter.

Yeah, why should he come here anymore? He's too busy spending his time at whatever lame *** message boards there are out there that demand freaking tournaments in Ultimate Team.

Well after reading the OP and all nine pages (probably 12-13 by the time I am done with this post) of responses, I'm going to throw in my 2 cents.

Re: Sliders: Use them folks. I have a great set that I have gotten 3-9 wins and loses from as well as 45-3 blowout wins and loses with. It makes a HUGE difference in how the game plays.

Really, people complain that they want realism in Madden, yet don't seem to fathom that the most realistic aspect of the NFL is that winning is HARD. The game should be hard too, and if you aren't afraid to set the sliders to an appropriate setting, you will never achieve that no matter how the game plays.

I truly believe that if I ran a poll asking how many offline franchise users played every game in a season and then asked those same people how many had losing, or even horrible records at the end of their seasons, it would be one damned lopsided poll. And we all know which way it would be leaning.

Re: Uniform degradation: Really? I mean, really? Is that what you think about when the game is over? "Oh man, my uniform is too damn clean! EA sucks!!" And news flash, most teams have some form of field turf now, so dirt on uniforms is pretty irrelevant these days.

Re: Alt Uniforms: This is something I could get behind, but as a major issue and a 'Fail'? Come the F on people, most Alt Unis get worn once or twice a season. Yes it goes to overall presentation but it is hardly the end of the world lapse that users make it out to be. Especially the 50 year patches and such. It sounds much more like people are upset that EA didn't give their teams the special attention that they think they deserve, and not really much more of an issue outside of that.

Re: EA not listening/caring what consumers (we) say: That is a load. And not the way any company that makes a product that has to be purchased by the consumer in order to sustain itself, operates.

We know that they listen. We know that they read the things we write. Does that mean that they can implement every thing that we want or fix /change all the issues we complain about? No, of course not. The game would never come out if they did that. But no one can say with a straight face that they haven't tried to make Madden the best product they can make, especially in light of the fact they need to put out a product every year at a certain time, where most game companies get to take 2-3 years on a game and 95% of them STILL suck.

Re: The patch: Personally, I haven't touched game-planing or whatever it is called so I can't comment on it. That goes for the online play and Ultimate team card game thing. Clearly though, there are people that wanted these issues addressed, and *GASP* they are willing to pay for them. As for not addressing game play... what exactly is wrong with it?

I am an avid football fan as well as a avid Madden player and I am not seeing these game play problems that people are talking about. What I see are an occasional animation glitch, sometimes I see them regularly. Raise your hand if you have ever played a game for hours on end that didn't have a glitch in it's animations.

The other issue I see is a ratings problems which leads to the 160lb WRs trucking 250lb LBs, but every time I get really pissed about that, I watch a real football game and I see something similar to that in almost every game. The ratings, however, can be fixed.

I see people talking about DBs playing bad in zone or man. That also can be fixed. See my first paragraph about sliders.

Really what I see in this thread, and threads all over this forum, are people mad because they don't get to pop in Madden and get the actual NFL. I mean, yes, that would be great, it is what we all want, but it is just a video game. That isn't going to happen. (Not yet anyway) And as many people have already pointed out, it doesn't happen, and certainly hasn't happened, in any game out there, for any sport.

OK, so I will ask straight out... what is wrong with game play that sliders cannot compensate for?

Maybe they'll surprise us...

# 75 havokeff @ 10/20/10 04:39 AM
I dunno, maybe it is just me, but I skip the intro pre game filler in real life, so I don't know why people fuss about it in Madden.

Even if there were 20-30 different intros, you would still have seen them all after a few seasons of franchise and most would just be skipping them any way.

I find it baffling that people want things SOO badly, when we all know that they will just be A buttoning past them after the first month or so of release.

When I know the AI is going to all out blitz half the time, I dump it off and get 20 to 50 yards, thats not realistic. Gameplanning fixed that.

CPU not able to run the ball or not running enough? Gameplanning and sliders fixed that.

Unis I could care less about. The QB Intro is annoying.

But no gameplanning? That breaks the game for me. I was very excited to hear that I could setup a gameplan for the CPU. And I had some really good ones. The one I had for the patriots had Brady throwing to 12 different recievers in a game. You wouldnt see that without gameplanning.

Against a very tough defense the CPU would avg 3 to 5 ypc on the ground, realistically. Again with gameplanning.

Everyone talks about sliders like they take care of everything. They dont. They are part of the process. But there are other parts of the process that are broken.

And until they fix these highly advertised issues, we as consumers who paid way to much for this game can complain about them.

SteelD
I guess we are playing different games. I have played hundreds of hours of Madden since it was released and the AI hardly all out blitzs half the time.

That aside, you just said in you post that there is nothing wrong with game play that the sliders, and to you, game planning doesn't fix. It's also very apparent that gameplaning breaking was a screw up on EA's part that is going to be fixed.

As for game planning, as I said, I have never even used it. In fact, I never even looked to see what it was, despite that, I have seen Brady throw to every receiver on the field and I have seen 200 yards run on me, so I am not getting where the game play is 'broken', again, in a way that sliders, or for you, game planning can't compensate for.

What is wrong with people. You can still use game planning for the CPU!!!!!

If your willing to not have it for your team (do you really need it? I use the entire playbook and call all my own plays).

Jeez. Yes it should be fixed to the way it was out of the box. 100% agree.

BUT IT STILL WORKS IF YOU MAKE A TINY LITTLE EFFORT in the the pre game screen and accept not being able to play the team you want for the opening kickoff.

So if gameplanning is the bain of your frustration for the love of god just do the simple workaround so your $60 does not go down the toilet.

End of rant.

Did anyone ever think the EA didn't intend gameplanning to be used for CPU opponents? And that's why during last patch they "fixed" it so you can't do it like we used to pre patch?

Well I would just love for EA to at least acknowledge this is some way shape or form. I mean we have a few threads talking about the glitch (supposed pre patch glitch going on your thoughts) and an entire sub forum dedicated to gameplanning.

We just want an answer, a statement, something. I don't think that is being unreasonable about the most highly touted feature, and their mantra for the 2011 version of the game!

I did exactly that last week. It's ok but gets really boring really quickly. And guess what? Medal of Honor's published by...... EA.

I started the game on Hard on Friday night and was finished around Saturday. It's far too easy, the storyline is hashed (how many elite American soldiers routinely flagrantly disobey orders, apart from Steven Seagal?), the maps are more dull than the original Halo (which is how many years old?)... The game is simply not worth the sticker price.

So yesterday I got Battlefield: Bad Company 2 from the second hand box for a 1/5 of the price. MILES AND MILES better than MoH. Sad that a 6 month old game beats MoH. But bizarre that Battlefield 2 is... an EA game.

I have no idea why EA would delete so many great features out of a game, but it seems it's a habit that's not confined to their sports games.
