Madden NFL 11 News Post

First off, we have been aware of a roster de-sync issue that resulted in more disconnects during some online games - primarily affecting Online Franchise and Madden Ultimate Team games. Rest assured we have a fix slated for this upcoming title update, and more details are explained below.

Ultimate Team ‘Rivals Pack'
The biggest delivery for this update is a set of features built around Madden Ultimate Team, and this signifies a few months of development work as we couldn't squeeze these features in by the ship date. The "Rivals Pack" delivers three new features for Ultimate Team, allowing you to make new rivals in Tournaments, face off against old rivals in Play vs. Friends, and renew some rivalries with Refer a Friend.

New Feature #1: Tournaments
You guys have asked for Tournaments in Ultimate Team for a while now, and we're happy to say that they will be available in the next title update. Here are some details about this brand new feature:
1. Each tournament has entrance criteria which can range from specific players to minimum team skill or chemistry.
2. Once you enter the tournament, you'll be matched up against another tournament player and battle it out. The owner who wins the game will move on to the next round while the loser has to start the tournament over.
3. You win coins every time you advance and if you advance to the last round and win, you'll earn even more coins and you might even win a rare player.
4. Tournaments, like Collections, are dynamic and new tournaments can (and will) be added throughout the season.
5. We're also planning on having special promotional tournaments where we release an insert for the weekend and those that find that insert can enter a special tournament.

New Feature #2: Play With Friends
Another feature the community has asked for is the ability to play against your friends in Ultimate Team, and that will finally be available in Title Update #4. You can challenge your friends anytime they are online and play a game of MUT.

New Feature #3: Refer a Friend
One of our favorite new features is Refer a Friend. If you have buddies that play Madden, but they haven't joined Ultimate Team, you can earn coins for getting them to join up. A brand new screen has been added that allows you to keep track of your invites and your rewards from the friends that have accepted the referral.

Uniform Updates

Here's a list of uniform updates that will be rolled out when Title Update #4 releases:
• Added alternate tops for the 3 Vikings jerseys featuring the 50th anniversary patch being worn this season.
• Added the current Redskins Home and Away uniforms. In addition the socks issues are fixed.
• Added the current Chargers powder blue uniform.
• Added a uniform top for the Saints including the Super Bowl Champions patch as seen in their home opener.

Content Updates
Here's a list of some of the other changes we've made to Madden NFL 11 that will be rolled out when Title Update #4 releases:
• Fixed a couple of random Madden Moments stability issues.
• Fixed the user's ability to view play art manually if the opponent on defense holds LT/L2 pre-snap.
• Fixed an exploit where the user could audible when coming out in the Bronco Heavy formation with a HB or WR at QB.
• Fixed an exploit where after pressing the square/X button on defense a user is able to hold down on the L-stick which allows the defender to release off the LOS and go after the QB as soon as the ball is hiked.
• Fixed a hanging issue with onside kicks in Madden Moments Live and offline Madden Moments.
• Fixed an issue causing a high percentage of disconnects in Online Franchise, Madden Ultimate Team, and other online head-to-head games

Well, that's it for the update on Title Update #4. Expect it to arrive at the end of this month or the first week of November with all the features and improvements you see listed above. If you have any questions or comments feel free to hop over to the EA Forums to discuss.

I agree not much of an update but if they are going to go to all of the trouble of adding a couple of unis then why not make it a good update and add in a bunch of retro away unis. We have most of the home unis but not away retro. I thank it was madden 2006 for ps2 and xbox that had all these. And I'm not saying that unis are more important than gameplay fixes; I'm just saying if your going to go to the trouble of adding a few unis in make it worthwhile.

Newsflash: EA still gets the $60.

It is great news for me, gameplay wise, because my sliders are perfect for my style of play. Great defensive battles. Any sort of tweaks would absolutely ruin the current set of sliders I have.

Now, when looking @ a distance, some will say "big deal, just tweak your sliders again".

I say NO. If you are going to tweak sliders correctly, it takes a lot of time to get what you want. I have put hours upon hours tweaking them, and refuse to do it again. Also, I have a full time job and a family, so time just isn't on my side any more. Hence, for me personally, yes this is great news. I am finally having a blast with this game and would like to continue that for a few more months.

I do agree on some aspects though...gameplannig is whack. I have yet to use it, and judging from the OS feed back, that is great. Game intros SHOULD have been patched, but I still have an A button.

And as for the dirty unis, I play as the Rams, in the dome, so dirty unis don't become a huge issue for me. I did see them in the Superbowl in New York, in the snow though.
My apologies, Sir. I took my frustration on EA out on you. It's just hard when the only alternative is to update the 2K5 or BB rosters. Hopefully this money crunch with the NFL and EA will loosen up the exclusive license in time for 2012.

So it would make sense for him to take 10 seconds to tweak a slider on All- Madden to stop this issue he's complaining about instead of requesting a patch because he's spending time on All-Madden level where that type of stuff is known to happen all the time.

But then again you have guys that feel everything should be perfect for them and if not they start complaining even about things they can simply fix themselves but they are too lazy

Sliders cannot fix this gameplay. It may allow for you to score and move the ball easier, but it does not make it play like an actual NFL game.

Maybe people are not being lazy, maybe the devs are just not delivering the goods....think about it before you start slinging slider adjustments as a probable solution.

I just sold my Madden 11 and got almost all my money back. Bought NBA2K11, best decision ever!

Reading this title update just made me glad I made that decision.

Wow no dirty uniforms that is a major fail. I am also not a fan of pre-determined weather.

This is very disappointing.

Jesus christ I cant believe this. I hope that the gameplanning fix just wasnt mentioned because if they leave that the way it is that is really poor confidence in there product or a lack of respect for the consumer, not sure which one it is. Im not going to get to bummed because I didnt have enormous hopes for this game this year, but they could atleast made sure they had a functional product...

Your telling me sliders can't fix his complaints about coverage on All Madden level?

Have you tried adjusting any sliders to figure that out or you just assuming sliders can't fix pass coverage

Like i said some of these complaints are non-issues and just people who want to complain about anything now days.

Play some damn defense or adjust the sliders and you'll have better coverage...that is not a gameplay problem it's his problem

Or better yet how about just not playing on All Madden level as a start

Playmaker I actually use your slider set, but havent played since the last patch. So I actually value your opinion. Are you saying that sliders, mainly yours curtail lbs on wr's and some of the bad playcalling? I thought the game played well but I thought it played much better with gameplanning for both teams. I just dont see how sliders can fix such a deep rooted issue

No mention of the Cowboys 50th Anniversary patch?

# 53 jjazwick @ 10/19/10 07:33 PM
This makes me want 2012 to come even faster. To bad Ian and gang do such a crappy job and still are employed. I guess the safest jobs are weather persons and EA Tiburon. I will not purchase another Madden football game until EA gets rid of Tiburon and hires a more innovative developer. To bad EA fired Visual Concepts back in '96. We could only imagine what we would be playing today. Firing up NFL 2K5 as I type!!!!!

That's now what i'm saying....

The guy posted that on All Madden level he can't play pass defense....and the CPU jumps the snap to good

Now i think we can all agree All-Madden level is designed to have the CPU win at all cost...it's not designed to play FAIR

So my opinion is tinker with the sliders because the sliders can fix pass coverage issues and also toned down the CPU's ability to jump the snap

That is what my debate is about.....it's not about CPU game planning or play calling those things are handled by coaching sliders not game play sliders.

So i'm pretty sure had he spent about 5-10 minutes tweaking his pass coverage he could actually get better results for pass defense and no patch is needed at all for that problem

again the subpar effort is your opinion

There are lots of us who enjoy Madden 11 and would disagree with you....

I'm not talking about EA's efforts on Madden 07 or 09....I'm talking about Madden 11 because that's the only thing that matters to me right now. It's a good game and unfortunatley i'm going to have to disagree with you when it comes to Madden 11

Does Anyone know about Field Degrate and the jersey's getting dirty. haven't seen it since madden 09.
?

I think the majority of the issues are people are upset by the patch not fixing anything that has to do with the actual main game. Which I understand completely. What I don't get is why Madden has moved further and further away from Madden. They've added ultimate team, boosters, Facebook Madden, etc but have left the majority of the game untouched. They say these small additions don't take away from development time but they are. I know its about money and making lots of it, but as I learned from an office episode once "it takes alot less to keep customers than to add new ones"

adfletch71...

I have never played sony's mlb game but i can say this...

nba 2k has not put out "perfect" games. 2k8 is fun, but the pick and roll is an easy basket and I've yet to find a slider set to stop that, or even contain it. nba 2k9 was awful, and nba 2k10, though improved, had a lot of holes that never really did get patched.

i enjoy nba 2k11, but it has a few flaws as well (intercepted passes at a high rate and i've yet to see anything but shooting fouls and a couple over the backs). so let's not pretend that 2k is perfect...

i know that playmaker has worked VERY hard on his slider set, of which i use (with a few slight variations to fit my skill level). i played 3 games last night using 3 different matchups and had some VERY fun games (one of which i held the opposition to 5 fg's total) and all of them were varied. madden is not a perfect game, but NO game is perfect.

what's funny is that we go through this EVERY stinkin' year - guys will go out and buy it before waiting because madden pulls all of us into the midnight release - impulse purchase. then we b!tch and moan, but we can only blame ourselves. if people wait around 72 hours after release date to read the impressions thread here they would make a MUCH better decision on whether to buy the game or not.

playmaker is right, though. there are some things that can be fixed with sliders...and I can honestly say that i have NEVER played a sports game yet that didn't require slider adjustments (even the almighty nba 2k11). madden is not a great game, but it's not a bad one either.

The issues that we the community have been telling these guys have been ignored and since its the only NFL game in town..we have no options, unless dont buy at all. I'm not bashing, u do your thing, but madden is poking us the gamers in the face and its time to poke them back.
i have played the SHOW and NBA 2K11 both amazing games IMO

I'm not a soccer fan but i have heard great things about Fifa....I understand the complaints with EA they are lazy at times.

But this year I think Madden 11 is a good game. It's not on the level of NBA 2K11 or the Show but I think it's a good game and sometimes people tend to bring up EA's past when speaking of Madden 11

Hey i'll be the 1st to admit I stopped playing Madden 07-09 because those games had a lot of issues. Madden 10 was aight notthing special to me

But Madden 11 is a good game....yes it has issues but i think some people are asking for patches in regards to issues that can be fixed in the gameplay department by the USER himself.

I also think all these complaints lead to EA screwing up gameplay more so than helping it. My responce again was directed towards the guy who got mad because of pass defense on All-Madden level.

That is not a valid complaint IMO.....that is a personal problem with the game between him and the level he's playing on. No patch is needed for that type of stuff

Look at madden, now they talking about 2012 its franchise, but what about the other things we have complained about for years or whats going to be taking out next year..its never solid with these dudes. Thats whats frustrating about this whole EA exclusive license thing, because if we had a choice we could choose another in its place, if we felt it wasnt for us.
i totally agree with you. it shouldn't take 2 months of tweaking sliders for us to get a game that's remotely enjoyable. i still find it frustrating, but at least it's tolerable. madden had better realize that we want a SIMULATION football game, not some arcade version. but i don't like the direction this game is going if they believe we want a passing fest...
