It'll be great to see players getting emotional after missing a shot or when they didn't get a certain call.....by displaying emotional behaviors on the court such as swinging their arms in the air or jumping and swing their arms in a disappointing gestures as they run back to play defense. This will give the game a level of realism that hey these players are not just digital forms but has feeling as well.

And maybe a technical foul can assess afterward depending on the user control. Maybe a referee persuation meter will be great.

now that im home i can finally listen to this vid....I LOVE IT! i feel they caught the atmosphere this year its just the way how the sound reverbs from the arena MUCH MUCH more realistic...i really cant wait for the insight for the sound...im an audiophile, my PC is set up with 5.1 surround sound...unfortunately though for the past 2 years the PC version of NBA2k didnt get any love from the sound department

As much as people hate Kellogg the commentary was seemless...sounds like a real broadcast the way these to interact now...very natural

overall i am really impressed in the sound department of the game hopefully they captured playoff atmosphere and certain players getting booed in certain arenas...looking at YOU Bron!

Don't get me wrong, I think good, strong, constructive criticism is more than welcome. But when folks come with the "it looks like last year" mess, I can guarantee you that the devs hit the mute button. When useful critiques get drowned out by that sort of thing, what starts out as giving folks a peak at the game becomes feeding piranha your right hand. Seriously. This is NOT a comparison of the two games, but look at what has happened with Elite's videos. Where are they? As I said on the Elite board, give these dudes credit for putting themselves out there. When you're teaching your kids, you don't just tell them what they're doing wrong. Again, in NO way should this thread be a lovefest because it shouldn't be. The game is not and will never be perfect. We all saw the positive impact of noting issues like the bank shots. But the good and bad should mirror what's actually there. And I don't think the thread reflects that. But that's just my opinion. From my seat, NBA2K11 is far better than 2K10 - whether you liked or disliked 2K10...

No wonder the CPU has always thrown lead passes for easy baskets.

I agree. In my opinion, audio has always felt "behind" other aspects of the game. I don't like some of the sound effects. I hate how verbose the commentary gets. Yes it seems more alive. But its TOO alive. I don't need Kevin to tell me that Dwight Howard receives the pass EVERY TIME he gets a pass. Shut the hell up already! But they try to keep the audio fresh and engaging. I hate Mario-running with a passion and I still see more than I want to see, but I'm not going to sit here and cry that it's the same as last year because there is significantly less of it.

Great posts man. Totally agree with you. Both game will never be perfect but I know 2k gone be crown king once again

Well the main goal is to get people excited for the game. If the goal was to use this a 'beta' tool then 1) it's too late because the game needs to be done done by now, and 2) its pointless because actually playing the game is significantly different from watching videos. But you agree with my point that good, fair criticism are eagerly accepted. And the community is here for folks to express themselves.

Some of the dunks and gathers inside were a bit slow and floaty in the demo as well.

Hopefully it can be ironed out before or shortly after release.

Anyhow, here's what I gathered from that video (sorry, it's going to be rather extensive list).

Pros:
-Much-improved presentation, looks so much more like what we see on TV.
-Smoother overall movements.
-at the :10 mark, nice bounce pass by Nelson to a running Carter on the fastbreak.
-Sometimes impressive AI offensive awareness, as evidenced by Dwight's step through move.
-Player faces have been improved a bit.
-White sleeves are now white!
-Addition of new momentum shots - will expand the overall offensive repertoire.
-Better commentary - talking a bit more in depth about certain aspects of the game. Some of Kellogg's old lines are recycled, but that's understandable.
-Some nice new passing animations, like Pietrus' running overhand throw to Nelson at 2:22.
-Vince Carter telling the crowd to get louder - nice addition to improve atmosphere.
-Arena lighting is better, brighter now.
-AI are now deflecting passes. Better.
-Much better post entry pass by Billups at 4:10.
-Nice interaction between Howard and Bass (as you guys have pointed out already).
-Nice help by Bass at 5:26, coming out to contest J.R. Smith's shot after getting by Carter.
-Realistic buzzer sound! Good stuff.

Cons:
-at the 0:08 mark, the animation with Billups and Nelson needs to go - it was one of the ways the CPU could cheat to get back on defense, stopping a running player's momentum. and plus, contact like that on a fastbreak would most likely be called a foul anyway.

-Spacing is still a bit of a problem. It's not really the size of things, but rather where players are placed on the court. Too many times the ballhandler will go right up to the post player to give him the ball, then go away. Examples are at 0:29 and 1:55. The second one is especially bad, not only because Carter gives Howard the ball while right in front of him, but because Afflalo doesn't even bother to try to double Howard, even though they're so close together. And then the ball goes back to Carter, with absolutely no consequence for passing the ball into the post while so close together.

-While the offball movement by Vince Carter at 0:44 to 0:48 is ok, it seems when that occurs the rest of the team isnt doing anything else, not giving Nelson a second option. Pietrus and Howard are just standing around watching. They only start to move again when Carter gets the ball.

-At 0:55, after crossing the 3 pt line, Howard is suddenly turned around and in a semi-perimeter defensive stance. This reeks heavily of same issue as the user not being able to control fully the movements of players on defense. In 2k10, I distinctly remember running downcourt and my player suddenly turning around in a defensive stance after crossing the 3 pt line, regardless of my control inputs. Then I'd have to struggle to make my player start jogging again instead of sliding around in that defensive stance. This needs to be fixed.

- At 1:06, we see Carmelo being sucked into a contact animation shot. Why is this still here? I thought all the "being sucked into a two-person animation" was gone?

-You can again see the spacing problems at 1:20. After Nelson passes the ball to Howard, the user with Carmelo goes to try to strip the ball. At this time, Nelson should be open somewhere, but instead he's far away running BEHIND Pietrus and not in a position to receive a pass. I'd think the CPU would try to punish the user for doubling..There's another issue here: How can Howard still be so calmly dribbling and backing down Nene when there's a secondary defender right in his face, trying to strip the ball? Maybe it's a true representation of Howard's real-life poor offensive awareness and passing, but I think not.

- When the user using Billups goes to shoot at the 1:40 mark, why does Rashard Lewis not even put a hand up? Poor CPU defensive awareness, not even a contest when in the vicinity of a shot. Looks like paint defense still isn't much improved in that regard. The CPU should punish the user for making a poor decision such as that - by sending that shot back.

-At 2:11, when the overhead pass by Billups is sent to Carmelo, Carter is just standing in a position where he could try to intercept the pass but instead does nothing. He even waits until Carmelo receives the pass to then go try to find where he is. Poor defensive awareness in this situation, but in others the CPU would try to intercept that pass. Odd.

-During the full court overhead pass at 2:18, the CPU teammates of the user don't even recognise that there's a man open downcourt.
-At 3:27, again there is a player being sucked into a contact shot animation. Look at how, when Carter receives the pass, he is semi-open. But then when he goes for the shot, Kenyon Martin slides backwards(!) into Carter to force a contested shot. This needs to go.

-Like everyone's being saying, that Martin dunk is horrendous. While the defense did converge on him after the offensive rebound, they couldn't do anything to disrupt him. That's a little worrying.

Honestly, even with the issues I pointed out, overall I think it's an improvement over 2k10. But I'm probably going to get a lot of flak for my post, seeing as its a list with a lot of cons...actually I'm sure I'll be getting a lot of flak for this post, whether its for the content or for the length.

Again, I apologise for the length and format (cause it's tough to read), but I felt I had to say something.
I agree with most of the points you listed especially the player spacing and positioning matter, particularly the AI's.

I'm OK with some of the look-like-he-was-fouled sequences. That happens in real life.

Love how the game is looking. The player movement looks much improved; animations seem to flow/interact so much more fluidly. Presentation looks incredible. Commentary is seamless and seems completely natural. I don't get the Kellogg hate myself; his and Harlan's commentary flow extremely well. I think 2K's done a tremendous job overall with the sound (commentary, player chatter, arena/crowd noise, etc.). Love the peripheral action going on with the benches and crowd anims. Nice seeing the cpu using drift/momentum shots w/some regularity. Hope to see the cpu walk the ball up at times; haven't seen it in any vids to date. Game looks fantastic

Somebody correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't one of the 2k developers say in a interview awhile back that they were getting rid of 2 player animations this year?

# 233 domidomdomz @ 08/25/10 02:11 AM
I also forgot to mention, I'm really liking the improvements on the jumpshot contests from this Ronnie's vid and GC's vids. The crazy swinging shot contests seems to be not existing anymore.

People will still attempt to lead pass with the new total passing controls. It's a never ending battle.

It is funny that Duhwight was cheesing IRL this post season. He did the 'ol rim-run so many times it was stupid.

I played online once in the where you control one position and I remember killing with Pau Gasol in this fashion. Because I usually don't go online a lot, I thought I just happened to be having a really good game by running to the block each play. So, I apologize if anyone ran into a guy named Swove online that scored a ton with Pau just because he did this cheap move. I swear I thought I was just playing fundamental basketball!

This is why I'm going to save most gameplay gripes for when I've got the sticks in my hands. None, I reiterate, NONE of these videos mean jack spratt about how the game plays until I've gone hands-on with a demo, which should be a month away or so.

So, I'll just stick to what I liked.

Commentary is excellent. People might say they don't like Kellogg, but I'd rather have someone I don't like on the mic that has noticeable chemistry and realism reflected in their words than stale, disjointed banter like my favorite baseball game, which shall remain nameless.

The whole game just "looks" smooth and fluid. Not as much of those irritating hitching animations that drove me up the wall before.

Lots of nice lil' animations that really capture the sport well. Like a few pass gathers, the Chris Duhon pass he throws to VC. Melo's jumper(s) looked noice. I also liked that I only saw one all net jumper. I'll say one gripe and that's the Kenyon Martin reverse. Not because of the dunk, but because his feet slide during all the pump fakes. I hate seeing people get away with that IRL. Video games are no different.

OH. And I love seeing triple threat have some real explosion on it and lol'd at JR Smith chucking. A shame they weren't all 3s though.

A little disappointed that some player's heads don't look too changed. VC's head still looks like a very minor bad guy from Venture Bros (he was pink with diode things on his oversized coconut). And Melo seemed to still bear the striking resemblance to the father from Bebe's Kids.

Still, easily tolerated with his new jumper.

I wished I could've seen more L2/left trigger dribble outs. I liked the few that I saw though. I also liked the way Dwight Howard talked to Bass after the sub. And I think ditching Cheryl Miller was a brilliant move. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, she said before sounded like separate words chopped together, like someone was playing some kinda audio version of Mad Libs. Except the blanks got overused.

"Thanks __guys__, I talked to __the head coach__ and __he__ said that they need to shoot more __3s__. And now back to the __play by__ play."

How can some of you guys be so overly critical on a gameplay vid from a build which is not final and still shows enough improvements over 2K10.

Really like what I see, game looks a lot more polished and from this 6 minutes I start to believe that adjusting sliders will not be needed (so much) anymore. Maybe foul sliders can still be upped, but have to see that when we get some full games in..

Presentation looks top notch. Hope we will still see enough stat overlays during the game.
