NHL 11 News Post

EA Sports NHL 11 demo is now available on Xbox LIVE and the PLAYSTATION Network. Powered by a revolutionary real-time physics engine, the franchise that has won 22 sports game of the year awards over the past three years will showcase two game modes in the demo: Battle for the Cup and the all-new Hockey Ultimate Team.

Battle for the Cup:

In Battle for the Cup, players will experience all the emotion and drama of the third period of Game 7 of the Stanley Cup™ Championship between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Chicago Blackhawks. The mode features an all new faceoff system, new quick dekes and the ability to score amazing goals even while lying on the ice.

Hockey Ultimate Team:

The all-new Hockey Ultimate Team brings Online Dynasty play to the EA SPORTS NHL franchise for the first time ever. In the demo, players will be able to pick up a starter pack of cards to build their Ultimate Hockey Team. Take your new team to the ice and play against either the Canadian Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires, or the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers. Play and win games in the demo with your Ultimate Team and earn up to two additional packs in the full version of NHL 11, when it is released on September 7, 2010.

The demo will also feature an interactive tutorial that will allow those new to the franchise to learn the controls, and allow long-time fans to practice some of the new controls in the game, including Faceoffs.

Can someone help me...

I'm playing on the 360. I've read about some speed burst or acceleration button, but I'm not sure what it is or does. Appreciate any help! Thanks!

I'm really liking the AI improvements for this years game.

The AI imo, is much improved in all areas of the ice...offensive, defensive, and neutral zone. The game seems to be quite a bit more difficult for me because of the nice improvements to the AI. On All-Star hardcore, wow...have I got some "un-learning" to do from last years game.

All in all, I'd say the game feels much different from '10'. In a very good way. Maybe the first slider adjustment I'll make though will be, to lower the cpu's poke check ability. I'm having a heck of a time with that. 9/7 can't come soon enough!

Push the left stick in, it only works when you are, for the most part, going forward. The button is layered, with three separate levels. Clicking once for first, again for second, and one more time for the final gear.

It honestly works great, ie. beating out an icing call, getting back on defense, getting down low to create a forecheck, create more speed in transition and of course... breakaways.

Was playing against Philadelphia in overtime today. Got to the neutral zone and pressed shoot, but Pronger stopped it before the faceoff circles. He tried to pass it forward but Hall just got off the bench. Used the hustle(and the obvious momentum of them skating the other way) to get a breakaway and score the winner.

Nice find. I hate auto-backskate as well. Thanks for this.

So I tried the Ultimate Team thing a little while ago, and it was better than I expected, the good players I got on my team were: Zetterberg, Malkin, Okposo, Cleary, Lidstrom, Chara, and Ryan Miller.

I played and won the tournament, beat the Taylor Hall team 2-0, won against the Flyers in OT 1-0, won a shootout against the Blackhawks 0-0 and beat Team Canada in OT 1-0. Kinda fun putting together different lineups trying to maximize the chemistry, might play this as a change-up to Online Vs, Be A GM and EASHL this year... can't say the game is short on options.

I do the Ultimate Team thing. I get a decent team, notables: Tyler SEGUIN, Niklas Backstrom, P.K. Subban, Luongo. Now, I ended up getting jerseys from some European team, and LEAFS jerseys.

I am a Bruins fan.

First game, Tyler Seguin, in a LEAFS jersey, scores on a disgusting snapshot short side top corner.

LOL

Leafsfansumad.

I beat Windsor 6-0, Philly 5-0, Chicago 4-1, Canada 2-1. Pro difficulty level is too easy for me!

Anyway, this has to be the biggest annoyance in this game. I HATE IT when Gary Thorne mis pronounces last names... don't the EA NHL dev's hear him say some of these names wrong? Neimi, Subban, Filpula, etc.... c'mon how can you notice he can't say half these last names right!?!?

Niemi? Don't you mean "Niemen"?

I love the demo. I got deked the hell out of my skates by Hossa, and then he sniped Leighton. Very impressive, the CPU never did that last year. I can actually see me doing some Be A GM this year, I couldn't do it the last few years because the CPU was unplayable.

My second impression of the demo is that it is an A+. The physics are great. The A.I. is way better. The goalies seem the same though. They still kick out juicy rebounds on soft shots. I loved being knocked off balance just by bumping into a defender without being checked. I saw the CPU do a hard around from the neutral zone as part of a variety of dumps. The CPU being able to deke adds a whole new level to the offline game. I saw a highstick goal by the CPU disallowed. The sticklift and pinning is much more fluid now.

You barely won the tourney, hotshot...

I just need to know one thing. If you play solid positional defense and cut off passing lanes will you actually be able to intercept or block passes? I don't think I can take watching pass after pass go right through a perfectly placed d-man again.

Couple of other things I've noticed: players can retain the puck after having their stick lifted (nice!). I scored on a breakaway with Malkin where I simply snapped it low stick-side. The computer is very effective if you give them space and are downright lethal on breakaways.

I think the skill stick has been further refined as well. I've had some beautiful deke goals and toe drags into the slot that feel much more fluid and less clumsy than '10. Hitting does seems a little over-the-top, but I am running at guys a lot too

the only thing so far i would like in tuner version 1

-slow down the speed and predictability of where the rebounds go. When i take a shot low far side and short side, the puck always has that scripted look as it rockets into the same corner.

Only played about 4 games, but so far Im loving this game!
Great job EA

WOW, Oh My WOW, that's all I have to say, I played the Demo last night and I will tell you that in my so many years of sports gaming this game seems to have the tightest game play ever, yes EVER.

It played so life like I was shocked, all toughen little things that bothered me no longer seem to existed, again, I was so in aww on how the game played. Just from the drop of the puck until the end of the demo, I loved everything about this game.

I can't wait, NHL 11 is number 1 on my list of game I want bad, even more then NBA 2k11.

Great JOB EA!!!
