NHL 11 News Post

EA Sports NHL 11 demo is now available on Xbox LIVE and the PLAYSTATION Network. Powered by a revolutionary real-time physics engine, the franchise that has won 22 sports game of the year awards over the past three years will showcase two game modes in the demo: Battle for the Cup and the all-new Hockey Ultimate Team.

Battle for the Cup:

In Battle for the Cup, players will experience all the emotion and drama of the third period of Game 7 of the Stanley Cup™ Championship between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Chicago Blackhawks. The mode features an all new faceoff system, new quick dekes and the ability to score amazing goals even while lying on the ice.

Hockey Ultimate Team:

The all-new Hockey Ultimate Team brings Online Dynasty play to the EA SPORTS NHL franchise for the first time ever. In the demo, players will be able to pick up a starter pack of cards to build their Ultimate Hockey Team. Take your new team to the ice and play against either the Canadian Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires, or the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers. Play and win games in the demo with your Ultimate Team and earn up to two additional packs in the full version of NHL 11, when it is released on September 7, 2010.

The demo will also feature an interactive tutorial that will allow those new to the franchise to learn the controls, and allow long-time fans to practice some of the new controls in the game, including Faceoffs.

Gah.

I can't win the damn tournament. Canada beats me every time in the finals. So frustrating lol. Last game I think I have them, up 1-0, bad turnover .. boom SH goal tie game. Then 30 seconds to go in the 3rd the pick off a cross ice pass... breakaway.. goal.. game over.

I hate having to go back through the whole tournament again lol.

I've beaten Canada a few times.

Never let the game get into a shootout though.. every single time it's gone to a shootout, Canada predictably wins with their absolutely amazing roster.

It stinks though having to start back at the very end if you lose.

I finally beat them 1-0... took a lucky shot that hit off two posts before going in with about 30 seconds to go, and a miracle that I held them after that as they swarmed like bees for the last 25 seconds after that.

My only tournament win against Canada was in a shootout.
Vokoun was my goalie and he stopped all 3 shots, and I scored the only SO goal with Chara. I skated straight at the goalie (Brodeur I believe is Canada's goalie in the demo) stopped about half way and blasted a slapshot into the top right corner.
Then you get to restart the tourney all over again, and I lost my first game

When you don't have the puck, with any player and hold down vision control (L2/LT) and pull back the right stick, your player is charging a slap shot. Without puck.
This can be done even when you're defending!

I haven't succeded in using it in a good way yet, but yesterday I played a few matches on locked positions, and I just skated around without the puck, charging for a slap shot... I just never got the puck in a good position to shoot! XD

I noticed it by accident, and haven't read about it on the forums.
Now I'm scared to look like fool here, considering the many hours I spent on NHL 9 & 10. But is this something new to the series? Pls tell me so.
Very interesting. I've been trying to find little oddities like this in the demo. I have to try this. May make for some crazy moments around the net in my zone.

Hahaha, ironically, I actually beat Canada in a shootout too yesterday. My goalie was Vokoun and I beat them 1-0.

The other times I've played in Canada in a shootout, my goalie was Luongo or Kipper.

Absolutley, I didn't have time to play any this weekend, but will do this week, and soon the retails version gets out.

I can especially see it useful when playing with friends, offline or online, as they probably could read your move better than the CPU team mates and deliver a pass for the perfect one timer.

WOW-moment?

I am absolutely loving the Goalie Reaction speed when playing on Hardcore in the demo. In last years game ity was rare when you could take an open wrister from between the circles and get it past the goaltender. But this year, those wide open shots are going in like they should. Nothing feels better then dropping it to a winger who skates into open ice before unleashing a snap-shot on the top shelf glove-side.

Be a GM after doing some roster editing and I'm sure I'll end up playing HUT (if it's really as good as the demo indicated) and OTP. I'm not a fan of Be A Pro.

Anyone else just pumped to actually view and save replays this year? Man, it's going to be insane. The things that I've pulled off or seen in the demo, I swear I could have over 100 highlights already. The game is going to be crazy good. Wish I could've convinced one of my friend who works at Wal*Mart to sell it to me early but I should be lucky that they're selling it at Midnight here in Wisconsin.

EASHL/OTP right away. Let us hope that the EA Servers are actually working day 1, unlike with NHL 10 where the servers crapped out...

Reason I wont be able to stop playing NHL 11:
I love the addition of waved off goals.
It adds a lot of tension to the game.
I was playing the demo, and with 1:30 left in the 3rd, Pronger Fires a rocket from the point off a beautiful D to D pass, and Hartnell lifts his stick and deflects it in.
I jumped up, only to see the ref skate up and wave it off.
They went to the replay and it was a close call.
From the angles they showed i couldn't tell, i just knew that it was a good chance it was going to get called off.
Sure enough, they waved off the goal, and we are now battling in overtime for the goal.
Both teams have fired pucks off the posts at least once.
It's getting intense.
