NHL 11 News Post

EA Sports NHL 11 demo is now available on Xbox LIVE and the PLAYSTATION Network. Powered by a revolutionary real-time physics engine, the franchise that has won 22 sports game of the year awards over the past three years will showcase two game modes in the demo: Battle for the Cup and the all-new Hockey Ultimate Team.

Battle for the Cup:

In Battle for the Cup, players will experience all the emotion and drama of the third period of Game 7 of the Stanley Cup™ Championship between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Chicago Blackhawks. The mode features an all new faceoff system, new quick dekes and the ability to score amazing goals even while lying on the ice.

Hockey Ultimate Team:

The all-new Hockey Ultimate Team brings Online Dynasty play to the EA SPORTS NHL franchise for the first time ever. In the demo, players will be able to pick up a starter pack of cards to build their Ultimate Hockey Team. Take your new team to the ice and play against either the Canadian Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires, or the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers. Play and win games in the demo with your Ultimate Team and earn up to two additional packs in the full version of NHL 11, when it is released on September 7, 2010.

The demo will also feature an interactive tutorial that will allow those new to the franchise to learn the controls, and allow long-time fans to practice some of the new controls in the game, including Faceoffs.

Yes, once I actually had a skater on the Flyers win it. I can't remember his name, but it has only happened once so far.

Make sure you're not pressing the L2 button. That will cause you to push the puck ahead of you, kind of acting like a speed burst.

On a side note there are 2 things I have just really taken notice of.....
1) Chara blocked a shot for me and busted his stick. While the puck was still in the zone Okposo handed him his stick. Don't think I really paid much attention to that before.
2) The hustle button works really well. I had a puck going down the ice for a sure icing. I pressed the hustle button and Backstrom kicked it into another gear, only momentarily, to beat the D to the puck and avoid icing. I was actually able to set up a play whe I gained possession and scored a goal. When timed right this can be a very useful feature, and it seems like it isn't over done either.

Seriously, the difference from NHL 10 to NHL 11 is huge. On Superstar, the CPU AI in NHL 11 no longer does silly things in the neutral zone like skating along the redline directly into the boards and yes they pressure you in all areas of the ice.

Along with the other upgrades (real-time physics, broken sticks, goal reviews done super well, etc) its like NHL 10 is a last gen game.

There is a comparison between the two obviously, but at the same time they are worlds apart.

Get 11.

And just think...this is only the demo we've played so far.

I've bought other sports games through the years and really the first impression I got was....same ole, same ole. You put it well OBG....you'll still recognize it, but there are several differences that imo too, make a world of difference.

I think another thing worth mentioning is...these changes to my knowledge, haven't caused problems somewhere else within the game play. I believe we're looking at all positive changes here.

I actually haven't seen them win it yet.
It's been Richards, and Gagne got it once too.

Well, that's good to know. It's been a goalie every time for me (at least 10+ times)

I've only seen a goalie win it once maybe twice in my time with the demo and that covers 15-20 games.

I like the new realism in NHL 11 - but perhaps it is a sliders adjustment thing but I find it a little 'clunky' if I can use that term.

We'll see how it works out when the game releases in September...

Initial impression - I'm taking a wait and see approach.

Well, I'm a little late to the party but I'm loading up the demo right now. I don't come into this forum hardly at all, even though I love hockey(more of a college/HS fan myself)
The things I'm seeing about this game really have me intrigued. I haven't actually played a hockey game since NHL 2k8 and the last EA hockey installment I played was NHL 2004!

From what I can tell so far, 11 is legit. Very excited to see what the retail has to offer.

Make sure you go through the tutorials. Hate to see you be turned off by the game, due to a pretty steep learning curve.

That was the first thing I did, actually! The game would need more than a steep learning curve to turn me off, though, as I enjoy the challenge of learning a new game.
So far, I like the demo a lot. Don't have a whole lot to say right now, just that it's fun and I definitely want to see what the retail version will have to offer.

Hm... It's too easy to do the entire between the legs in hte faceoffs.

Wow. He was a bit offside.
But i would allow it since St. Louis didn't even need him there at all.

Ya i almost think sometimes that if the linesman is not 100% sure, he won't call it or like you said - if its not blatant he won't call it either.. check this one out. CLEARLY OFFSIDE but he was on a breakaway:

Btw guys, have any of you noticed 5-hole goals? This was 1 that was very hard to score on in NHL10 unless in shootout mode but i seem to be able to do it more often in NHL11 demo during regular play.

And, I love it.

Yeah, cuz the one thing i've missed doing in NHL games in general is coming in on the wing and just letting one rip from just above the circles - low 5 hole like i do in real life lol

Yep Mikey, I've scored at least a few 5-hole goals so far.

What I've seen with the demo, they've added more goalie animations that make the goalies more human like. And because of this...it seems like all possible shots are at least a bit more likely to light the lamp.

Seems like the at times, frustration of the robo goalies of the '10' game, have been eased up nicely. And boy on All-Star/Superstar, the cpu can really hit the top shelf now.
