"The Read Option is one of the most popular, and with the right personnel one of the most lethal plays in college football. The ’05 Longhorns won the National Championship with little more than the Read Option, but we’ve never felt that the play had reached its full potential in the NCAA Football series. With that in mind we went back to the drawing board and completely rebuilt the play from the ground up. First you will notice that we use our new zone blocking matchups. The threat at the point of attack is always priority number 1. So if a safety wants to creep up into the box to try to blitz that guy will get targeted, we want you to get to the outside. Working your way down the line you will notice how covered offensive linemen get help from their uncovered teammate. As for the backside defensive end, he is intentionally left unblocked; that’s your read to make. If you don’t know how a Read Option play works then I’ll break it down for you right now so you can start running for glory as soon as you get the game."

This year the blocking on draws has been redone to truly emulate a pass play where the QB hands off to the running back instead of passing the ball. You’ll see the pocket starting to form because defensive ends will drive the offensive tackles into the back field while the defensive tackle tries to drive the guard or center into the face of the QB. This opens up big holes for the running back to go through when you make the handoff. Combine that with the defensive reaction to the draw plays this year where defenders actually drop back as if it’s a pass play and you have a real formula for success when you call a draw versus a pass defense.
I can't believe no one has pointed this out yet. Does this mean DEs will pass rush correctly now? I would assume so, since it would be silly for them to just be correct on draws. This will need to be thoroughly tested to see if true. I'm getting pretty psyched to play the demo to see all these changes.

Would love to see some blogs dedicated to the defensive side of the ball.
Yeah it seemed like someone should have made a play before he made it all the way to the end zone. Other than that, it looks really good in my opinion.

That looked pretty sweet. The part with having to actually make a read this year with an unblocked defensive end was fantastic, I assume that will apply to qb read plays out of the Shotgun as well which makes me very happy.

As others said though, hopefully the defense ai is up to a level that can match the improved blocking, otherwise the running game may be too overpowered. The defense sliders could always be cranked up to compensate somewhat. Hopefully the defense and defensive ai got some attention as well.

Wow this looks very impressive! Awesome stuff and thank god! Make people play the run! I cannot wait to suit it up online and take on some run plays!

CB and scoopy, hey, this is what you get when you sit back in your zones all day long. The safeties are bailing to their deep third or quarter. People are going to have to blitz a safety, play a hook zone. This is great IMHO.

Awesome point. Im waaaaaay more hyped this year than last. I feel this game will trump madden 11. Hell even it is closely behind it college atmosphere alone makes it the better game.

Makes me want this one over Madden even more, which is not the norm for me, even though Madden 11 will have this too. Madden 11 doesn't have the lighting and the ESPN presentation NCAA 11 has, though. Demo in about a month and a half.

Awesome to see this can't wait to test it out in the demo.

Sounds awesome. I'd love to see some videos that show some big DTs fighting through double teams too. Really like what they're doing here.

This video makes me happy. Probably the best video EA has released in years

I wish we could have 1 blog or feature posted without someone following it up with the "Should have been in the game already" BS.
I can't believe the amount of out of work game programmers that come to OS to post what should and shouldn't be in a game.

I knew there was a reason I stay away from the general population nowadays... guess it's good to get a reminder once and awhile.

Anyways I'm not a game programmer and this looks really nice. Still see suction blocking but I've come to the conclusion this game engine probably can't be used without suction blocking.

In any case the blocking looks very nice especially for a VIDEO GAME.

GREAT point! I wanna see how elite DT's perform on some of these plays. That along with great LB's.

You know though LB, I'd much rather have a great running attack to deal with than never really having to worry about defending the run...
Know what I mean?

Just a bit late... Oh how I wish this was in when I had the white/Slaton combo....
