NCAA Football 11 News Post

Check out the new NCAA Football 11 blog, discussing real assignment AI.

Quote:
"The Read Option is one of the most popular, and with the right personnel one of the most lethal plays in college football. The ’05 Longhorns won the National Championship with little more than the Read Option, but we’ve never felt that the play had reached its full potential in the NCAA Football series. With that in mind we went back to the drawing board and completely rebuilt the play from the ground up. First you will notice that we use our new zone blocking matchups. The threat at the point of attack is always priority number 1. So if a safety wants to creep up into the box to try to blitz that guy will get targeted, we want you to get to the outside. Working your way down the line you will notice how covered offensive linemen get help from their uncovered teammate. As for the backside defensive end, he is intentionally left unblocked; that’s your read to make. If you don’t know how a Read Option play works then I’ll break it down for you right now so you can start running for glory as soon as you get the game."

Well, you don't see Madden breaking down specific plays and showing how they are run. Madden devs are scared this will scare away newbies and casual game fans. I am really loving NCAA right now.
Madden will have the same run blocking and it will probably be more tuned. NCAA is looking much more polished at this point because they have less time. Once NCAA is wrapped up in May, all focus will be on Madden and some corrections to the logic.

Looks good even though this should have been in the game 4 years ago.

Looks great, I just hope this dosen't make running as broken as passing was in 10...

Fantastic!

No mention of the pitch phase of the triple.
Now, I assume this is because it was a little too difficult to intentionally leave the 2nd guy unblocked.
The slotbacks in one video are shown with an arc-path but this isn't necessarily an assignment, just a direction.

I'm happy anyway though. This is really really great and I'll buy the game for the first time in years.
Glad NCAA has made a real effort! It's much appreciated.

This is a great addition to the game that should really improve the running game.

But as a former offensive lineman I feel that I must mention that this would be even better if the lineman would block on the correct side of the defensive player. For example on the stretch play the linemen should get to the outside shoulder of the defensive lineman so the running back can get outside. Another example is on the other plays the backside tackle should wall off the defensive end instead of blocking head up or towards the play.

Very nice. I'm even more excited with the new run blocking AI. But to echo others, I really hope the defense has gotten the same attention as the offense.

I'd imagine it has judging by the OS preview. Getting beat by 63-8 on Heisman by a weker team is impossible on any other NCAA game.

I like the idea of better A.I. blocking. I just hope it doesn't make the game TOO easy to run.

I like success, but I like balance too.

I can't believe all the great blogs this year. This game is just looking so sweet right now I can't believe it. My only hope is that I somehow find an early copy this year. I doubt it will happen since I've never scored an early copy before. We just don't have the mom and pop stores around here. Only the big guys and they won't break street date.

the texas & bama RBs look slow fluid running the ball. The new locomotion is night and day. I also loved as the Bama guard leaned into his turn up field. This game is going to be really fun.

After watching the comparisons, I wonder if people will still not see a difference between 11 and 10.

I'm really, really glad to see that they fixed the read option, that's one of the biggest plays in football and it's going to be fun to actually be able to run it, especially with the ducks!
