I watched some CPU vs. CPU matches on expert. I can see why they left it out to begin with.
Oh, I was.
It's just that for the slightest moment that Rampage was up, he would initiate a clinch, then uppercut me to hell.
FINALLY beat Rampage on expert with Lyoto. 29-28, 29-28, 29-26. The first round Rampage won, the next two rounds I clearly won with leg kicks. If you kick Rampage's legs enough, the takedowns are automatic with Lyoto. I have no idea how I will ever get a finish on any fighter though.. but it'll be nice when I get it.
After getting a couple of rounds in I have come to the conclusion that Rampage is a beast with his fist and Shogun is a beast with the submissions.
I upped the difficulty level to Experienced and my 1st fight, I KOed Machida with Shogun. I haven't won a fight since. Shogun kept subbing me and Rampage kept knocking me out. I'm enjoying the demo though everything seems more fluid.
Does anyone know how to do subs? I know the button mashing is gone this year, so I assume you have to spin the right stick. My submission attempts haven't been successful thus far.
I didn't like it though...all I did was high block, wait for him to throw and lb power left hook until I knocked him down for the 2nd time and hey was grey'd out and i finished him.
I really didn't like that. Last year I could 1-2 leg kick, 1-2-3, 1-2 body kick. you simply can't have success throwing normal combos. Last year you would sparingly use the LB button for success. Now you almost have it pressed all the time if you want to win just standing up. There is ZERO reason to throw a 1-2 this year and it's too slow anyway.
There's a lot I'm happy with, but I'm really disappointed I can't win using real world striking strategy that I won with last year and online.
finally I'm going to try the other guys and use rampage and so on and see if it's just against rampage.
I think using real strategy might work better against a human, but I hated how I had to be "cheap" just to beat rampage on the difficulty level.
There is a lot to like here though, but I don't know why they nerf'd jabs and straights like that. You can basically win by lunging at someone constantly. IMO rampage is overpowered too lol.
edit: anyone who has last year's game or demo, press x,y,x,y,x without moving the stick forward and you see your guy throw rapid punching with his hips turning. Now do the same thing in this game and you'll see what i mean. I really don't like the change to the standup

Click RS to attempt subs. Spin RS to get out of them.
I have an extra code, anybody who didn't get to sign up in time and is in need of a code to download the demo, answer the following question correctly and I will PM it to you.
Who was the first UFC lightweight tournament champion?
Omaplata
kneebar from top half guard
toe hold from top half guard
ankle lock
strke catch into kimura from half guard bottom
traingle choke from butterfly guard
butterfly guard seemed to have replaced the rubber guard this year

That's interesting because I think the striking is done much better this year. I get a real sense of when to open up with a flurry and I'm able to pull of some nice combos.
That fight was off the chain. They did everything they do in real life. Machida circling and swaying away from attacks. Taking Shogun down over and over again. 3rd round Shogun reveresed a slam and landed on top of Machida and cracked him good with a couple of elbows.
Machida rolled over, Shogun took his back, cracked him twice more and Machida escaped from the back door. They standing and banging now. Shogun catched Machida's front kick and cracked him with a downward elbow dropping him., He stands over Machida and just starts teeing off on him and TKO's him.
The ground game is a lot better where you can't get to mount and end the fight in 30 seconds. Now it is a lot harder to get off big punches. When you are able to though, the punches do a lot of damage.
Okay, so once I press the RS to initiate the sub, what do I press to attempt to complete it?
And for the life of me I still don't know how to sway. I think someone mentioned R1+ move the LS in any direction but that doesn't work for me.
Once you press RS, start spinning it in clockwise, or couterclockwise direction. If you spin well enough, it will result in a successful submission. As far as swaying goes, you have to flick the LS in a direction instead of just moving it while pressing RB or R1.
