NCAA Football 11 News Post

Jon Robinson, over at ESPN Videogames, sat down with Producers Ben Haumiller and Russ Kiniry, as they break down nine changes being made to NCAA Football 11. They have also posted the very first screenshot from the game.

Quote:
"Numbers on helmets might seem inconsequential to some gamers, but if you're an Alabama fan, the fact that the video game recreation of your school doesn't accurately represent the uniform details you cheer so hard for on a weekly basis has been driving you message board mad & as in, leaving threats of "I'll never play the game again," on any sports gaming board you could find in hopes someone at EA will finally hear your cries.

Cry no more.

"Alabama fans, we hear you," says "NCAA Football 11" producer Ben Haumiller. "This game's for you."

That's right, not only will "NCAA Football 11" finally feature Alabama's famed look that includes numbers on helmets, but now when gamers create their own schools using the wildly popular "Team Builder" (over 500,000 teams were created last year), they can put numbers on the sides of their helmets then watch as they actually appear in-game.

But that's not all the "NCAA Football 11" creative crew has in store for this year's game."

But yet people are tickled to death to get an undershirt....

Field goal nets, windsocks, mouthpieces...etc, cant possibly take more than a few days to put in, and yet people are squealing like pigs at a slop trought because we can now add Cups to the players jock straps.

As to your comment about community day, its nothing more than hype , propaganda , and a marketing opportunity. Last few years we heard many amazing things coming from the community day and then all of a sudden people all rushed out and bought the game....

Next thing you know , we realize that what we heard from the community day people, and what we were playing were not exactly the same things we were seeing. Onward comes the community day people to state that " EA must have changed the build" after we previewed it etc..

The majority of us are not stupid. EA and their NCAA series has fallen flat on its face for years and each year the hype machine gets rolling and the chants for " just wait till next year guys" starts back up.

Your $60 and my $60 are the same, and I understand that. They are losing their customer base on a yearly basis that just wants a good game of pigskin, but gaining consumers such as yourself that are so easily pleased that all they need to do is change the picture on the cover of NCAA 10, and resell you the same garbage with NCAA 11 as the title.

At the end of the day its about money, and they will lose some faithful fans, but gain some new ones in the process. Every 5 years there is a ton of new people that enter the market and those are the people they are catering to, and I dont blame them.

I think everyone here understands your frustration with the series as only about 10-15% of the people on here are placing this on their must buy list just from the screenshot. No one is saying that you shouldn't be. But at the same time there is no reason to try to get pissed at others who enjoy the things they showed. It's February, and if you expected them to let the flood gates open with gameplay info on the first day of new info then you couldn't be further off. Most people are glad that this year they actually listed some good things instead of windsocks and fieldgoal nets. This update gives them a lot more to be optimistic about than last year's.

If we get about halfway with these updates and you see no improvements to gameplay, then you more than likely see the majority of people in these boards side with you. However, there's no reason to come on here undermining the intelligence of the other posters who like this info just because you don't.

Same goes for the people who do like it. They shouldn't tell you to be happy about the info becasue some of you could care less about equipment and graphics.

I'm not saying be happy about it but I do believe some of you guys are jumping the gun on gameplay. I'm one of the people who likes the screenshot. But at the same time if we find out that they haven't gotten rid of the 90 degree running in this series I will be pissed as well. I don't expect them to tell us major changes right at the beginning. Most games usually start off with a teaser or a screenshot with a small feature in it.

You guys have every right to be mad at the shape of this series but that doesn't mean take it out on the people who like this. Just say you're not impressed by this and move on for now. A lot of people are playing the wait-and-see game and I think you should to. If it gets later on and you don't like what you see then don't buy it.

You can. Just look at the numbers 1-9.

I played NAIA college ball for 5 years, and never once in 5 seasons, on my team or any other team we played against, did I see anyone with the same number. We weren't even allowed to wear the same number jersey in practice, much less games. Sorry, from my own first hand experiences, I never saw this. NCAA may be different, though, and if this is the case, then I retract my previous statement. Still, I don't see the purpose of this?

If it's in the game, it's in the game.

Ok yeah, I believe it is a NCAA thing, my apologies. NAIA we aren't allowed to do that.

Theycant be in the game at the same time

Because the travel roster is 105 players and there are only 99 numbers available.

I stand corrected.

Carry on.

Some of the things announced sound great.

I want a way to DL uniforms. FIFA has found a way to do it with the new World Cup uniforms, I'm sure the NCAA crew can also.

Templates for created jerseys (ie State/Tech and being able to actually read/see it) for Teambuilder.

And I'm really hoping that one of the "big" announcements is better presentation and new commetary/commentators. If I have to hear Corso say "AARP says, go for it" in NCAA11, so help me God.

# 211 sarlndr @ 02/28/10 04:09 PM
What will they mess up on Iowa's uniform this year is the big question though, lol.

Poor Hawkeye fans, I hope they get it right this year for you guys.

# 212 mgoblue678 @ 02/28/10 04:43 PM
I think the people such as myself who are not overly excited are just taking a wait and see approach this year. After seeing what the product has been the last couple of years, isn't that the smart thing to do? When we see more info or gameplay videos down the road, I may get excited, but not when we still have no idea whether the gameplay changes or presentation changes we have been asking for have been made or not.

I really have no idea why some are getting so bent out of shape about people taking a wait and see approach with the game this year.

The first year it was the number on the jerseys, last year it was the helmets, this year I'm going out on a limb and say the pants

my guess was going to be the socks, i wish those looked more real, like that they are actually black leggings with a white sock on top that can be pulled up to different lengths

Everything you said in this is what ive been trying to say for years now. Im not trying to be a wet blanket for people who love graphics and equipment, all that stuff doesnt matter unless your watching replays. I want them to succeed at this game, but I have major doubts.

# 217 bipolar @ 02/28/10 06:47 PM
i'm not gonna say that this first bit of info didn't get me a little excited but honestly that is stuff that should've been in way before ncaa 11 and it won't keep me playing the game long...soooo lets hear about gameplay and presentation changes

# 218 Gossennator @ 02/28/10 08:00 PM
I'm guessing we will be able to put sweatbands at mid forearm..cool

# 219 Hiro1 @ 02/28/10 08:34 PM
I didnt get the memo that being super excited about this screenshot and info mean I dont care about gameplay. ??!?!?! Ncaa is my favorite series, last year it was shelved because of maddens gameplay and online franchise. When madden made its big jump last year it was with a similar type photo choreographed obviously to show off some thing that were added. Last year they gave us windsocks and auto-throw for 1st info this year they gave us a ton more. Had it just been the equipment info I would have been .

I wanna know too... Does the dynamic logo thing apply to just the field or stadium signage as well? Gonna have to wait and see...

Anyways this is great first news about the game. Looking forward to the next few months and all the news about the game to come with them...

As far as the guys upset about not hearing this or that just give it time... Its still very early... And to those saying we're all getting too excited... Come on. Some of the things in that article are features some of these guys have waited for... It doesnt mean they dont want the gameplay stuff... Theyre just excited to see things added that theyve wanted...
