NCAA Football 11 News Post

Jon Robinson, over at ESPN Videogames, sat down with Producers Ben Haumiller and Russ Kiniry, as they break down nine changes being made to NCAA Football 11. They have also posted the very first screenshot from the game.

Quote:
"Numbers on helmets might seem inconsequential to some gamers, but if you're an Alabama fan, the fact that the video game recreation of your school doesn't accurately represent the uniform details you cheer so hard for on a weekly basis has been driving you message board mad & as in, leaving threats of "I'll never play the game again," on any sports gaming board you could find in hopes someone at EA will finally hear your cries.

Cry no more.

"Alabama fans, we hear you," says "NCAA Football 11" producer Ben Haumiller. "This game's for you."

That's right, not only will "NCAA Football 11" finally feature Alabama's famed look that includes numbers on helmets, but now when gamers create their own schools using the wildly popular "Team Builder" (over 500,000 teams were created last year), they can put numbers on the sides of their helmets then watch as they actually appear in-game.

But that's not all the "NCAA Football 11" creative crew has in store for this year's game."

I'm with you on this, I hope it makes it in this year. I'm always editing rosters and it infuriates me when I cant give a player his appropriate number because somebody on the opposite side of the ball has it already.

Why dont some of you take a deep breath, step back and relax because you're getting upset over nothing. Theres still a lot of time for info to come out.
Im not exactly "upset" but color me unimpressed with the announcements. I personally could case less for an auto save feature, auto roster load, new equipment, conference logos, single season week, or refs. They are all features to either speed things along or are fairly pointless to me because I honestly think presentation doesnt do anything for me if the game play isnt that great.

Madden's pro tac addition isnt felt very welcome either. Today one year after the release, they are saying things like the madden's pro tac wasnt that great and gameplay just stopped ect ect. But when madden released they were proclaiming it to be the next best thing since fried rice. Pro tac is a system that forces players to run directly at the defense to achieve the "best" result to get past the defense and that isnt football. RBs take angles to lessen the amount the defense actually can make a play on them.

The one positive is formation subs. They are very much welcomed addition to the game.

I will sit and wait to see what else is "new" to NCAA but so far I am overall unimpressed.

That is how you open things up, EA. Way to get it right for once:P

These aren't game breaking back-of-the-box features, but they're exactly the sort of thing that puts a smile on the fan's face. Great first features to get out there. Well done.

Please, please, please, put the presentation of NCAA basketball 2010 in this game or even better (weekly poll show or pre-game show) and it will be the best NCAA football on this gen!

It sounds like you are going off of something someone said. I have no proof to tell if you are, but pro-tak gang tackling is a gamplay addition that separates Madden from Ncaa. Unlike in Ncaa where it is about speed, speed and speed. Pro-tak turns power backs into weapons also. Not many tackles are 1 on 1 or even 2 on 2. Pro-tak is one of the best things to happen to "EA" sports football games.

Loved that this year we got a legit first screen shot. New cleats, calf bands, revo speed helmets, & refs... all in one pic. Hopefully this is just the small first step

It's not so much the complaining. People have the right to be upset about the quality of a product. I for one thought NCAA 10 was sub par and I am glad I didnt purchase it new.

The problem are those who cant keep things in perspective. They release info based on importance. If all this info is minor then this game has more potential then all of last year already.

I think this photo also shows that Clemson is in the SEC ... showing how they transfer colors to the Conference logo... if you look where the clemson player is, at the bottom of the field you see a logo and thats not the outline of the ACC logo, its the outline of the SEC logo. Which is pretty cool I think

Good eye, didn't notice. Does anybody know if the patches change on the jersey as well when you change conferences?

If these features are small details, then this will be an amazing game and might be better than madden

No, I meant exactly what I said. Madden has become obsessed with it's "highlight stick" and completely broken the reality of football. Pro tac is merely an extension to this obsession. You would be hard pressed to find a RB that actually tries to go head to head with another player in the open field.(I mean running directly to the defender to completely bowl over him or skinny his way out of a tackle)

Just to make a quick example I will use Brandon Jacobs who IMO is considered one of the better power backs in the league. When he has the option he chooses to move to the side of the defender because there is space and then try and drive through the defense but in madden people run directly at a defender to use the highlight stick most effectively. Madden/NCAA's running game is quite repeative and all about getting head to head with another player instead of taking a good angle to put the defender in a bad position to make a play on the RB. Players are rewarded for going head to head in NCAA/madden because they have an increased chance to break the tackle.

Dont even get me started on the "spin juke" that has defenders with the broken ankle animation when they are just about to make full contact with the RB.

I don't know about you guys but my main issue with Ncaa and Madden Series is Game Play Game Play Game Play ! Run Blocking is Terrible , A I Oline is messed up, weight shifting is like playing on another planet and tons of B S

C'mon guys we as a Community cannot afford to be happy because the threw us a little bone more than half of the stuff was on the last gen EA HELLO IF ITS IN THE GAME THEN WHY NOT IT'S IN YOUR GAME

Please don't HATE because I used to loved back and I know rest of you do too Peace p.s Gator Nation watch out for FSU we got order now

I disagree. Even in the video you posted there were plays where Jacobs could have sidestepped, but decided to run through his defender much like other backs: MJD, A.Peterson, M. Lynch, M.Barber. In my experiences playing madden(500+ games online) people run around and through defenders depending on their best chance to break a huge run. This notion that people only/mostly run at defenders purposely to break tackles in Madden/Ncaa is false and diluted. After playing Madden for a long time then switching to Ncaa, pro-tak gang tackling and game speed were the top two things I missed the most. The NFL can't compete with college football as far as atmosphere and passion in real life. So if Ncaa 11 is a combination of Ncaa BB and Madden 10 and a couple of small upgrades, Madden 11 wont be able to compete with such a game. I can only hope!!

Then we will agree to disagree because IMO on every single run play in that video that Jacobs was further then 5 yards away from the end zone he was using space instead of just directly smashing into the defense.

@kingfelix

I completely agree that EA cant please everyone. Even the list they provided is by far better then half the info that was released during the entire cycle of NCAA 10. Regardless, I cant ignore the fact that the info that was released last year was basically "We are going to add similar stuff to madden" Except all of the "better" things like QB ratings or Pro tac. Now here comes NCAA 11 and they are just adding in these things.

I wont sit and sulk over not having much info but I also wont sit in silence either over what we currently have. If I feel that the current info given is pointless, worth praise, or needs tweaking...I will give my opinion as best as I can. EA may not be able to please everyone but having the demographic of the entire gaming community responding will help them develop a better picture as a whole of how to try and please us.

Looks sweet! Take a look at the Show for details and add them to the game for football, EA.

I agree. The presentation was very well done in ncaa 10. If they would have fixed the freezing and the dump down low problems, they would have a winner on their hands.

Seems like a lot of missing features have been fixed or added. Good job team. I think they are off to a good start and hopefully it continues.

As far as the dump down low is concerned just pres the red button (A?) and the double team will make the player do a fade-away more times than not.

hope they announce the broadcast cam from madden in the next updates!
