NHL 10 News Post

The NHL 10 patch is now available for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Post your impressions here.

Quote:
"Here are a couple of the key fixes that we've made in the Title Update:

Fixed the exploit to slap-shot a 5-hole goal from below the face-off circle.

* Although our goalies are much improved in NHL 10, there was an exploit when shooting from below the face-off circle that resulted in a goal more often than not. The goalies are now tuned to better handle shots from this area.

Increased speed of passes with Manual passing on.

* This year we added Hardcore Passing (manual passing) that gave you total control of your pass speed and direction. Overall, the new passing was well received but the consensus was that you should be able to pass the puck harder and that the bottom-end speed was too slow. We've increased the bottom-end speed so the passes are crisper and also increased the top-end slightly as well.

Reduced the ability to boardplay players who are far away from you.

* It was a little unrealistic being able to 'suck' a player into boardplay as he was skating away from you so we've made it much harder to pin a player that is skating away. The further he is from you, the less likely you'll be able to boardplay him.

Tuning of trade logic.

* Too many superstars were being offered up for trades so we've dialed this back along with reducing how often players are repeatedly offered up for trade.

Added the ability for a user to apply boost slots to authentic helmets.

* We've added the ability to apply boost slots to an authentic helmet so users can get the benefit of the boosts without having to wear a helmet with a design on it.

Here are some of the other main fixes that will be in the Title Update:

* Fixed the bug that would make a player sometimes exit pass blocking (L1/LT) when they got close to their goalie.
* Fixed the bug that would prevent offline Be a Pro player from getting ice-time in some situations.
* Fixed a crash that could happen on delayed penalty shots.
* Improved logic for how fighting affects teamplay scores in Be a Pro.
* Prevent L1/LT from allowing players to bypass stumble animations.
* Improvements to goalies to reduce 5-hole goals in some contexts.
* Tuned thresholds for injuries from hard shots.
* Added the ability to escape a prefight circle by pressing L2/LB.
* Fixed the bug that made it possible to "shoot" a puck slowly out of the one-handed animation such that nobody could pick it up.
* Improved goalie aggressiveness when poking the puck on cross-crease passes.
* Improved the ability of defencemen are able to do puck pickups behind them to help defend cross-crease passes.
* Reduced the ability to stuff the puck through the goalie by running into him without shooting (most common on wraparounds and reaching puck pickups).
* Reduced accidental interference in front of net.
* Fixed the offline Be a Pro line-change bug where the player is stuck at the bench.
* Prevent slap passes from being deflected at large angles.
* Fixed the bug where the goalie does not react to a shot if he's banging his stick on the ice to signal the end of a penalty.
* Fixed the bug that makes flip dumps to the middle of the offensive zone go over the glass frequently.
* Fixed the bug that makes CPU center win draws to the the same side all of the time.
* Fixed the bug in the stat tracking of passing.
* Prevent accidental saucer passes after receiving the puck while trying to poke check (because both actions are on R1/RT).
* Tuning to reduce occurrence of tripping penalties when the player being tripped is stationary or moving slowly.
* Tuning to game logic to make it a little easier to stay up on the NHL team during 4-game trial in BAP.
* Many other changes to improve our ability to refine the gameplay tuning with via tuner sets."

I've gotten called for it too. Once in each of my last two games.

I've also, a number of games ago, got called for boarding as well. Man...I'm turning into a cheap shot artist.

I don't know if AI Learning has anything to do with that or not. I'm thinking I may lower that a tad and see if that makes a difference.
I think you may be right about the AI learning DJ.

I too had gotten off to a fairly decent start the first few games. I was at least scoring a few goals. And then...the door seemingly got slammed shut.

Myself...I'm not really too sure on just how the AI learning works. My suspicion is, that it has more to do with what kind of goals the cpu goalies will allow over time. Rather than the AI learning really affecting the other positions. Again...just my guess.

I have experimented with adjusting the slider. However, I can't say with any certainty that it upped my scoring. It seemed to...but then the door got slammed shut again! Of course I really stink at scoring to begin with. So my views are pretty shaky.

Yeah, I'm not a proficient goal-scorer, either, so I may just be flat-out struggling. But, it does seem that recently the goalies have been "super-human" and stopping everything I'm throwing at them.

I'm going to lower AI Learning for a few games and report back any changes.

I had scoring issues post-patch as well, but I think I've fixed it by switching back to tuner version 1.1. Before the patch on this tuner version I had a real nice variety in games (some blowouts, some nail-biters, some low-scoring, some high-scoring, etc.). After I downloaded the patch I scored 4 goals in a 5 game stretch. Then I realized in my sliders I had it set on "Latest Tuner Version". I switched back to version 1.1 and I seem to have the variety back through the first few games after the switch. I think tuner versions after 1.1 have really killed the goal scoring.

Anyway, it's helped me and anyone having scoring issues post-patch may want to try it. Just change the tuner version back to the earlier one.

Interesting. I'll give that a try.

It's right in with the slider screens.

It's in one of the first screens. Near the top of the screen, where you can adjust the game speed, attribute slider, etc..

I deleted everything, loaded NHL 10 back up, d/l the rosters and played two great games on AS defaults last night.

Can't wait to get some more time in this week.

I did the same thing a few days ago Mizz.

But the issue I was hoping would be helped, for me...really wasn't. So I reloaded everything.

My problem is, I just can't score enough to be competitive in my BEAGM. I really enjoy the gameplay on AS. But damn...scoring for me is very tough. I'm just too freaking slow to take advantage of decent scoring chances. I like this game just too much to give up. So I'm going to keep at it. I'm going to try bumping up my shot power a bit, to see if that helps.

Are you on defaults? I don't like slowing down the speed of the game and I think that helps me score more. It comes and goes though.. I do score more on pro like I should, but I also totally dominate in shots on goal.

I'll play some more tonight as just a few games is not enough to see if it really has helped. I did score on two clear wristers though!

Yep Mizz, I'm back pretty much to default settings.

I'm playing All-Star "normal". I do however have the game speed set at 1, and the AI learning/face off difficulty at 3. Also...I've been using the latest turner set.

For my skill level [or lack there of] AS is damn near perfect for me. I really enjoy the gameplay a lot. But yeah...scoring enough has been a problem. I see a lot on replays, the many scoring chances I've blown, because I just react too dang slow. And that of course is on me...not the game. If I can just get quicker on the sticks, I'll be in great shape.

Had a wild 5 to 5 game last night and lost in the shootout!

Yeah thats a lot of goals for this years game Mizz.

Myself, I just can't do Shootouts. Deking is another one of my weakness. So I'd lose nearly every time. Heck, I'm happy just to get a tie.

I need to practice for sure!

My skill level sounds to be right around yours, vikes... Try upping your shot power to 5 and see if that helps. I score more with it here, and am using an All-Star slider set from DM

Yep Silver, I have tried upping my shot power. And your right, it does help.

But I'm such a freaking fussbudget about sliders, that I turned the shot power back to default. One other thing too though...personally, it kinda bothered me how my shots looked so much faster than the cpu's. My shots looked kind of out of place with the rest of the gameplay. Because they looked like they were being shot out of a cannon. I don't know...like I said, I'm just too dang fussy. But thanks for the tip anyway Silver.

Gonna try what you are using cause I been frustrated with this game. I don't think I have one two games in a row with my beloved Rangers.

In my experience anyway DG...the games [off-line] vary around quite a bit, which to me is great. But it can make settling on sliders difficult. Just when ya think you've found the right setup for yourself...you have a game that makes your settings seem all screwed up. Then it's so tempting to start messing around with the sliders...again, and again... Before ya know it, your playing with the damn sliders, more than the game itself.

With the setup I mentioned, some games the cpu plays pretty timid, and I've out shot the cpu ohh...43-23. While in other games, the cpu has been very aggressive, and it's been almost the complete opposite. So again for me...theres been a lot of variety. But most of my games have been very close in shots on goal. And overall flow of the game. But admittedly, my skill level is pretty low.

How did you delete it?

Yea I suck and being the Rangers isn't easy. So the game is tough then using a team that is OK makes it even harder, obviously but still tons of fun.

Hopefully I remember this right...

You go into "System settings" I believe, and then select "System maintenance". That should delete the patch. This is for the 360.

If I screwed up Rhudey...you can Google it on how to delete patches. That'll explain it better than me. Hope it works for ya.
