Grand Theft and Assassin's Creed have had title updates as well. Not played the rest but I'd be very suprised if they didn't too.

would you like me to go on? Sure there are things that can be fixed, but not nearly as glaring as what is in Madden
most of what you listed has had patches. Not to mention the disaster that is/was the PS3 port of the Orange Box.

Games ESPECIALLY on one year development cycles need title updates/patches.

It's actually even worse when the ones that aren't on the 1 year cycles need em.

please, go on.....

other than ODST, which just recently came out, they all have had patches. some of them had to fix "game-ending" bugs too. ones that would prevent you from finishing a quest/mission. I would call that a glaring problem.

LOL...

Oblivion/Fallout STILL don't work right for some people even after several patches, both official and unofficial (microstuttering in the Gamebryo engine). It takes an external script extender program for me to completely eliminate the problem.

Bad, bad, example.

Heh, not a very smart man are you. Or maybe you're playing devil's advocate in some bizarre way to pioint out even good games need patches on next-gen consoles?

I sure hope acardman comes back to defend this posting. Lolercats!

Josh Looman stated that particular stat couldn't be fixed, the way I think he mentioned to look at those stats is that for CPU teams combine both assists and solo as a tackle in the stats and that for human controlled it's just solo. He is aware of this and should have the fix in for next year. He didn't have the time to adjust all the programming involved for that fix. He was on a crunch to get all the stat fixes done in a timely manner. Every other stat fix will be there though.

I don't mind patches at all to be honest. I am glad they can do them, it's just the fact that every year it is something major with the game.

Especially the franchise part, I mean that has been broken for 5 years now. The one new feature they added this year, assisted tackles is BROKEN! lol You say a great feature was added, then when we get the game that feature is broken?!? wtf How does that happen? And the bad part, they tell us they can't fix it till next year.....

It seems every year the famous words are always said by everyone including the developers, "next year".................

I truly hope they lose the license because quality control for this game is really bad. Their innovation no longer exists and their engine is old and outdated.

Maybe if they lost the license they could take a year off and completely (and yes I mean completely) tear apart this game, add a new engine, something that is going to WOW us like they used to do, and go from there.

Are the people that they have now able to do that? To be honest I really don't know. They talk a good game, but so far it has been all talk. They do what they do best, sell sell sell and worry about the details later.

Hopefully falling sales will continue to affect their bottom line and MORE changes will be made.

The assisted tackle feature really isn't broken, if you go read Looman's post....it's calculated correctly but it's portrayed wrong when looking at the stats. It's more of a cosmetic thing of visually showing us how our tackles compare to the rest of the league....really read his post and you'll get a better understanding...

You can sugar coat it anyway you want, the feature is broken. The feature if it wasn't broken would display it correctly, which it doesn't so like I said it is broken

I think the term misrepresented is a better term...

And also your own tackles arent counted right, so the tackles stats are at least not working correctly this year, maybe not completely "broken" , but I'm still very disappointed. I just hate it in my Raiders Franchise that Howard and Morrison only get around 60-70 tackles a year...

I'm looking at some of the offline franchise stats there have been complaints about and I want to make sure my priorities match yours.

Here’s a disclaimer before you start reading the sections below:

First off, the problem with our stats engine is that it’s touchy. If I bring passing touchdowns down slightly, that could mean that rushing touchdowns rocket up to 25-30. It will also mean that receiving touchdowns could drop much lower.

The trick is finding the right balance, which won’t be perfect but will be as close as it can get.

When you get these fixes, you may still be unhappy with a few of the results. My goal is to get them as close as possible so that it doesn’t ruin the experience for you in offline franchise mode.

Another key thing to remember: This tuning is for offline franchise only. Online franchise runs on a completely separate engine and these changes do not apply to online franchise.

Rushing touchdowns
I'm trying to increase these so that they match what normally happens in the NFL each year. I'd like the max to be around 15-18, since the leader last year had 18 and the leader in 2007 had 15. After tuning this yesterday, I’ve got the league leaders at about 22, which is still too high for me yet.

Passing touchdowns
I’m trying to decrease these slightly. After some tuning yesterday, I’m getting QBs with about 35 as the max for a season. Here's what they look like right now:

Rushing averages
I’m trying to increase these for backups. The problem is…if I increase them for backups, they go up for starters too.

After yesterday’s tuning, Peterson and Turner are averaging 7.0 yards per carry. I’m working on bringing that down.

Tackles
Now for the ‘game killer’ that has caused numerous people to wait weeks to start franchise mode. After doing some digging, I figured out what the problem is.

The screens are mislabeled.

Here’s what’s going on…in-game, we display two columns on the stats screen for tackles; solo tackles and assisted tackles.

When you load back out of game and go into the season stats screen, you now see two columns as well, but they are labeled total tackles and assisted tackles.

The total tackle column is actually showing solo tackles and every other screen that displays total tackles is showing the solo tackle stat, even though we are adding them together in the back end.

When it comes to progression, it is using the combined tackle numbers, even though you don’t see that value in a column when looking at the spreadsheet.

Here’s a screenshot of my stats screen in-game after playing a 5 minute quarter game in week one:

And here’s a screenshot of my stats screen after exiting that game:

So, the fix here is that I need to try and decrease solo tackle numbers for the top guys in the league right now.

Beason led the NFL with 110 solo tackles last year, and I’ve got guys getting 160-170 right now.

I need to try and pull those down and distribute them all a little more evenly, especially when it comes to the number of tackles that corners get.

Injuries
Since the stat engine also controls simmed injuries, I’m going to tune these down slightly and I mean slightly. I’m happy with the number of injuries we have in the sim right now, but I’ve seen a lot of complaints, so I’m going to decrease these a little bit.

Sacks
I’m also looking into increasing sacks for outside linebackers in the 3-4. Our stat engine does a decent job of differentiating between 4-3 and 3-4 defenses, but as I mentioned before, it’s touchy.

I worked for weeks just trying to get linebackers in general to get sacks instead of DTs. I’ll see what I can do in this department, but this one will be much tougher than the rest of the categories above.

Ok, that’s what I’ve got planned for now.

Is there any other category of stats that should have a higher priority than the ones I mentioned above?

I’ve got limited time to get this stuff in for the patch, so I’ve got to pick the highest priority things that are bothering you guys the most.

here is what josh put in....not a broken feature, just misrepresented

Here's the thing, I would agree with you, but when you look back career stats it only shows the total tackles not assisted tackles. So to me, it's broken because we don't know really know how many total tackles they had over their career...only solo tackles. And I think someone else brought this up and I've brought up many times, but it seems like EVERY new feature they have brought into this game isn't working right.

I'm scared of what the next patch might do to the game.

Lets not forget about pancakes. They are broken as well.

I so badly want to play a football game equal to what's out there for baseball, basketball and soccer.

I got rid of Madden quite some time ago but if they do make some dramatic improvements than maybe I'll bite again. It would have to be major though.

# 158 Methlab @ 10/12/09 03:42 PM
This will never end until there are options or EA makes an amazing NFL game. As good as Madden was this year, once again I am selling it because it just doesn't make me want to play over and over like *** did.

On the plus side, you can get 30% more on a trade in now for MW2, so I'd like to thank Madden for having a decent trade in value.

...any chance that they will allow the stadiums with retractable roofs (Arizona, Houston, Dallas and Indy) to have them open in franchise mode?

# 160 BlueNGold @ 10/12/09 05:22 PM
This is a dumb question but is there any specific date this week that the patch details (and I'm guessing the patch itself) are coming out on like say, today?
