NBA Live 10 News Post

The Association once had Russell and Wilt. Then there was Michael taking the reigns from Bird after he dropped 63 in the Garden during the '86 playoffs. Last year it was the debate between Kobe and LeBron. Right now it’s Live and NBA 2K.

fair review

Live 10 gets the nod for me this year. It's been 2K all the way since the Dreamcast but this year, Live 10 is more fun and feels fresh. I've played both full games and 2K feels like the same game with new animations and has become more arcade like which is weird because that used to be Live but not this year.

I am glad that this review covered everything that needed to be!!!! NBA Live 10 is no longer a pretender, but rather a CONTENDER! Nice write up!

Hey all,

Thanks for reading the official OS review. I worked hard on this one to keep it fair n clean. Hit me up for questions or comments!

Nice read. I'm tempted to buy this game after reading the good things the reviewer had to say. Sounds like there are two good games of basketball this year.

I'm still confused on which to get...

People say Live 10 is a huge improvement from 09, but they say 2k10 is the way to go...I played Live 08, enjoyed it...played NBA 2k9, loved it.

I was planning on getting 2k10 until I read some of the reviews...
honestly OS, which one is the better game this year?

I liked this write up it was nicely put until D Apocalyspe wrote that 2K is more arcade.. Live is fun to play but its not a serious hoop game.. everyone on that game has handles.. to prove it i want u to play a game against someone not the cpu,,, Get the hawks and use JOSH SMITH... He has the same handles that Chris paul kobe dewayne and EVERYONE else on the game has.. The only difference is they do the moves at different speeds.. LIVe Fun.. Always was fun but thats it.. U will play the game 32 months from now with the same game plan same moves and everything... When I play 2k i learn different things 5 months after game drops. STILL LEARNING... To end this LIVE also is the worst game to bet on because u never know playing that.. someone can hop on the sticks and ISO with a slasher ( LIKE jOSH SMITH) and DUNK on ur head every play... " Arcade 2k WHAT WE TALKIN' BOUT"

excellent review.

i don't agree with the score of an 8. in fact most of the reviews that have come out are hovering around the same area. i don't really understand it, because there's so much good in this game, in my opinion, there's no question it outweighs the bad by a large margin. in fact, i'm a huge association/dynasty guy, but this game is so good, i wouldn't even care if there was no dynasty mode at all. i would be perfectly fine with online play, exhibition, and dynamic season. i've never had so fun much playing against the computer, and then taking it online for some sim opponents. i played the same guy about 5 times in a row last night, and every game was crazy. oh don't forget, dynamic season is so overlooked at the moment, it's going to be incredible when the season starts, i'm sure.

so, considering this is the best basketball game i've ever personally played, i don't understand how it could warrant an 8. to me, it's a 9.5, easy

the point - anyone looking for a true simulation style basketball game with incredible gameplay that is very rewarding, should choose live, hands down.

It's all preference.

NBA Live is a good game this year and 2k did a lot to improve their game play from a year ago. It's hardly "the same game" -- trust me on that.

If you are a franchise player or enjoy "My Player" modes -- 2k is the hands down winner. If you are just an online/exhibition player -- it could go either way if you are truly unbiased towards either.

I'm just biased towards 2k and feel it to be the more complete package. Live is almost there for me, but the graphics and physics still don't do it for me. The offensive control is fantastic though this year and I think they did a lot to improve the gameplay -- but again, 2k has the best commentary to date in any sports game and it's presentation and NBA Today feature is amazing.

SO to answer your question -- rent both and make a choice. No one says you need to buy one blindly. You may hate 2k and love Live or you may hate LIVE and love 2k...

i mean, how can a game get an 8, when the AI is playing with real life DNA? every single player in the game plays like they do in real life. there is no rubber band come-back logic. you never feel cheated, only outsmarted. the game punishes you in an intelligent way for making mistakes, and rewards you tremendously for smart plays. this is all 5 star material to me. i could go on and on....

I'd grade it like this:

Perimeter offense A +++
Permiter defense...C
Post offense... C
Post D...no comment.
just to comment on defense and the like..
defense to me is stellar, and very rewarding. you actually have to box out. you have to perfectly time your steals, and you have to time and have great position on your blocks. defense is a 10 in my eyes.

post offense is reflective of real life post offense, meaning the new breed of big man is not a back to the basket player. yet there is enough diversity in the post to still get the job done. the inside game is also stellar, with bigs dunking when they are supposed to, nice aggressive putbacks, easily scoring over smaller players, and on and on. every big man in the game legitimately scores down low, hustle players get their points on hustle and putbacks, etc.

the game is such a simulation it's almost ridiculous how on point it is.

A fair review... 8.0 is perfect from where it has come from.... EA is on there way back. Thanks Steve

i was just addressing the previous poster "bro". the point isn't to bash 2K, it was to answer a question as to why one would think that 2K is on the downslide.
the game to me is still a 9.5. i could care less that it doesn't have duncans signature turnaround hook that he does once a game. the gameplay is still stellar and it's the best basketball game i've ever played. many others have shared this sentiment. how do we rate a game that is the best we've ever played in the genre. an 8? yet 2k.5 is an 8.5 and is getting higher reviews, when it's not even close to the gameplay and authenticity of it's competitor? makes no sense

I say dispense with the numbers and just leave impressions a la pastapadre.

just numbers to us but to some, the difference between which game they are going to buy. sad but true. i bet mike wang is sitting back like, are these reviews serious?? we make the most accurate basketball simulation ever and 2k still gets higher scores? the world is crazy.

team specific styles, ACCURATE PLAYER SPECIFIC PLAYS... wow. the other game doesn't even have plays. i strive to overstand this insanity

Both have their flaws...but neither are a 9.5 type game. Like I said, LIVE's perimer game is an A+++ type game. At the moment, everyone is blown away by how good it is. It's brilliant

But...the post game, defense, dynasty etc are all a long way short of the standard set by the perimeter game. 9.5 = all aspects are great. Not just one.

Just enjoy the game...both are good this season.
hey man, don't want to argue or anything, so let's get that out of the way. here's my opinion

9.5 does not mean all aspects are great. ever use old music equipment? i'm talking old 70s and 80s stuff, outdated, etc, yet still goes for big money. why? some of that gear only does one simple thing (think a 303 bass for the musically inclined, or 808 drums). it does that one thing so incredibly well that it is still well sought after. some would say it's better to be a master of one thing than a jack of all trades. i would say that live's gameplay is so good that i don't care if the only mode was exhibition and online, it would still warrant a 9.5. i just think that in a basketball game where gameplay reigns supreme, that should be the be all end all of a review. the rest is bells and whistles. if you have no hands, what are you gonna do with bells and whistles? that's where i'm coming from. so we can respectfully agree to disagree.

I think this is the best basketball game I have ever played. But a 9.5? come on man. The closest sports game to a 9.5 would be the Show. And that is a 9 at best.

Live did okay this year but dont get carried away........they still have alot missing compared to the competition. The game is more fun just cause its made for a younger crowd but 2k is a grown man game which is more difficult to play so some might complain on that. Other than that both games are great in my book . 2k has the edge this year but live is not far behind.....
