NBA Live 10 News Post

Lead Gameplay Designer, Mike Wang, has just posted another NBA Live 10 blog. This one featuring dribble moves.

Quote:
"Today we’re going to talk a bit about the Dribble Moves in NBA Live 10. As you saw in Jeff’s blog, we spent a lot of time working on the ball handler’s movement this year. So as you move around the court and make hard changes of direction, your player will pull off contextual crossovers and planted turns based on which hand he’s dribbling with and where he’s trying to go. But everyone loves to pull off ankle breaking crossovers and spin moves so we had to beef up what was formerly known as “Quickstrike Ballhandling.”

So let’s start by talking about size up moves. Whenever we’re in mocap and we ask the talent to go 1-on-1, the first thing these guys always do is pull off a series of stationary dribble moves before starting their drive. These moves, or size ups as we call them, are the first step in creating space for yourself as a dribbler and getting your defender off balance."

Good to see you back on the boards Mike. I can't wait to see what you guys have done this year. Thanx for ruining Madden Live team!

Hey mike, can you tell me what the little arrow circled in yellow means/for? (apologies if this has already been answered, is a stupid question, or can't be answered)

Exactly. I want the cpu to beat me with better basketball strategy, not BS that exploits the flaws in the game's design.

PLEASE, Please don't let the AI cheat like it did in 2k9 lol bigman goes for a layup then does a 360 pass to someone in the corner for 3 right when you were gonna block the layup...10 alleyoops in 1 quarter, etc..

Good question. The idea for the arrow was to represent the ball handler's "eyes", and it basically shows where your left stick is pointing when you have the ball.

The purpose is two fold. One, it helps you see where you're pointing when using directional passing. Because of the angle of the default camera, we found this helped improve target selection for some people.

Secondly, it acts as a tell for the onball defender. Since there's a tiny delay from the time you throw your left stick before your dribbler begins to move, the arrow gives the defender a small window of time to anticipate and cut him off. Think of it as reading the weight shift of the ball handler. Just a small tool to help the onball defender stay in front of his man.

Gay's skin color can't be changed at this time. BUT -- keep in mind the lighting that the screen was taken in. Remember the Rose fiasco? Remember how I posted another Rose pic and his skin tone was lighter? that's just because he was in an arena with brighter lighting. Player's skin tones will look different in the different lighting we have in the game.

Holy s***, what a great idea with the arrow pointer and that implementation of how it's a tool for passing and defending. Yo Mike I think Live 10 is about to prove why you get name-checked so often over on the 2K forum lol.

Honestly some people act like Steph is some kid sitting at home talking about basketball videogames in his basement. The guy is a PR rep for the biggest videogame company in the world, stop asking questions that he simply can't answer and give the guy some credit for actually interacting with the community.

Also this thread has to have some of the lamest nitpicking nonsense i have ever seen and for some reason it is running rampart this year (it's always bad but this year seems much worse than normal). Sure it might not be perfect but what game is? Wait for the damn demo, rent the retail game and STFU. It's a damn videogame!!

What they have released looks impressive so far and it seems like they actually are making positive strides to releasing a great product.
C'mon man, i'm not PR -- that's an insult

Are we able to assign different dribble moves to certain players if we want to edit them..or even CAPs?

Wow, I'm not even gonna go into that! I remember back in October me and Pbz06 and others were in a thread trynna figure out what spread we needed in Speed Attribute in 2K9 just to overcome the HOF CPU speed advantage... ended up being like 20 pts, WTF SMH x100

One question if it hasn't been answered yet Mike/Steph.... Can big men jump pass with amazing accuracy?? This produced so many controller throwing moments when I'm playing great D, the shot clock's at 2, I'm bout to block Nene, but he passes out of his layup to JR for 3, lol

I have a uestion since we saw it in the video and steph made a reference to the LeBron part

How do you control what kind of layup or dunk you do?? What are the mechanics for those controls coming off the dribble?

Sort of. The dribble package you get is a function of your size, speed, and dribble rating. So playing with the ratings will construct your dribble package. The signature size ups are for certain superstars only and can't be assigned.

We don't mind the mistakes, but there's no reason to not want them fixed.
It's ok man, call me out lol. I was thinking you were this guy for a bit:

All good man.

# 159 23 @ 08/15/09 12:43 PM
Can't say that sucks or anything because it doesn't and I'd hate to see a guy like a Yao or Greg Oden doing Tim Hardaway crossovers.... is that the reason you decided to do this?

and okay stars have their own sizeups.. but there are others we can play around with right?
