NCAA Football 10 News Post

If I told you Michael Myers and Halloween have a lot in common with EA Sports NCAA Football, you’d probably tell me I was crazy.

However, at a closer glance, they are more alike than you may realize. Both series have resorted to the same philosophy of not straying too far off of the formula which worked to originally elevate each franchise. Unfortunately, that philosophy of sticking close to an established formula tends to have a limited lifespan before a series becomes stale, and NCAA Football is dangerously close to that point.

The approach to the NCAA Football series has been relatively the same since NCAA Football 99, with only incremental improvements each year building on top of the previous package. However, just as with Halloween, the core tenets of the series have remained the same to solid financial success. But just as with Halloween, the same act seems to be getting tired.

NCAA Football 10 isn’t a bad game by any means, but the game represents only a marginal upgrade over last year's title overall, which leaves you wondering if we'll ever see a truly great NCAA Football anytime soon.

I agree about Dynasty Mode..so much could be done there.

I was told by a wise man once that forever is a long time, so it's best to never make a vow for forever

IMO, the NCAA team simply needs to tweak a few things with gameplay, but don't screw what this year has up. Then spend the rest of your time overhauling the rest of the game and NCAA 11 could be a Game of the Year type of game.

Yea, a bit of an exageration, but...

The gameplay tweaks for me that they have to focus on are RUNNING ANIMATION, MOMENTUM & BALL PHYSICS.

After that move on to adding enough presentation to make me sick.

Then its dynasty mode overhaul & equipment.

After that I don't care what they do.

NCAA 11 is the defining year.

You said it. It sucks for me because it seems they added some good stuff to the gameplay, but the things I wanted most were left out (momentum and physics, lower ball speeds, stretching ratings, and o-line d-line realism).

:sighs:

I'll probably be 30 by the time they put out a good NCAA.

As for the review, great read Chris, best review I have read so far. You weren't afraid to say what was actually wrong with the game and what was done right.

WWE Tackles, Sonic Speed, horrible momentum, Crappy Pass Rush paired with Robo Qb.........

are major problems to me

oh yeah...Sliders don't work again......and judging by how well 09s sliders were after they got patched....I wouldn't get my hopes up about them fixing much

You add that stuff with the completely atrocious presentation and you get like someone has already said....a big patch for 09

Im not that sad though, FN4 will keep me busy until Madden comes out. Barring any broken features, that game should be at least worthy of being called a NG Experience of the sport its trying to portray

I think it's great. Purchased the PS3 version and the presentation doesn't bother me. I enjoy the gameplay. The graphics on my plasma HD is gorgeous. Clearly better than last years, fewer jaggies and it just looks excellent. I'm excited for the rosters coming.

Nice read. Certainly won't buy the game now, far to many negatives that i don't want to deal with... let's see a patch cover this mess up... NOT!

Have a nice headache peeps. Hopefully with the arrival of Madden this game will be looooong forgotten.

Great review. It's hard to understand with all these flaws how it still gets an 8.0 though. I won't be getting the game now. I just don't understand why EA seems to have completely ignored offline dynasty players and those looking for a good coach mode experience. It's hard to stomach the lack of updates to dynasty, coupled with the lack of presentation.

Well written review, I disagree with your review of teambuilder. Most of this review is very useful info, greatly appreciated, the rest is nitpicky on small irrelevant things that no football game currently has..(sideline graphics?)lost some credibility with madden references. Even when a feature was good or decent in this game, you made a point of knocking it by saying "it could have been better"or by calling it a non-improvement by saying "this is what it should have been all along".

this game will be head and shoulders better because the main thing it lacked in 09 has been restored...Balance

I agree, Presentation is Waaaaay off when it comes to this game.

The atmosphere that is College Football is nowhere to be seen nor heard from.

How can it have good gameplay if the line interaction is still broken and the sliders don't work? I played the demo - it is the same wide open gameplay from last year.

I'll be waiting for Madden. It is sad that we don't have much choice when it comes to football unfortunately.

I think your dissapointment in the presentation department lowered the score more than needed 8.5 at the lowest.

# 56 nccomicfan @ 07/14/09 08:42 AM
I am completely confused by reading this review. If this is a true " straight out of the box" review, how can a title with broken sliders, obvious graphical issue including clipping, state presentation and that poorly depicts the atmosphere of the sport it is meant to portray be an 8?...It is almost as if the review is of what you expect it be post-patch(es)

A really nice review Chris. I had to laugh at the comments about the crowd chants and the audio. So true from the demo experience.

I don't have the game yet and have almost broken down and bought the game but I promised myself I would wait until the patch. I'm a slider nerd and I just can't play a game with broken sliders anymore. I need to know if the sliders work well. I think I can hold off until then and I need to know if the cpu can mount a good rushing attack. Too many people think if the cpu rushes for over 100 yards once in awhile (usually with a long run in there) that the cpu ground game is fine. That's not good enough for me. If I have a bad defense, I want to see the cpu just pound the ball down my throat consistently. I don't want every cpu rushing game over 100 yards to exist only because of that big run they had. That didn't exist in '09 and I hope it exists in '10.

I'm also a big presentation guy. That's why I have been keeping my eye on Madden even though I would rather NCAA be the better game. I don't have the time to justify owning both football games. Still torn on what I'm going to do.

I downloaded the NCAA 10 demo from Xbox Live Marketplace. Trust me, I am still playing the online dynasty mode from NCAA 09 right now, I know how the game plays. The same money plays are still there, the same awful blocking.

can someone tell me if they fixed the Defensive glitches?? like does the quarters D still stop EVERYTHING??? that was a huge problem for me last year. the same D would just shut you down. i hope they fixed this. can someone let me know if you actually HAVE to mix up the D???

I disagree with that. Being such a HUGE college football fan is what makes the recent additions to this series disappointing. As mentioned in the review, it hasn't felt like a real college football environment since last gen. The demo did nothing for me and since apparently the retail is basically the same, I'm going to pass on this one for the first time in a very long time. Maybe '11 will be the breakthrough year.
