NCAA Football 10 News Post

If I told you Michael Myers and Halloween have a lot in common with EA Sports NCAA Football, you’d probably tell me I was crazy.

However, at a closer glance, they are more alike than you may realize. Both series have resorted to the same philosophy of not straying too far off of the formula which worked to originally elevate each franchise. Unfortunately, that philosophy of sticking close to an established formula tends to have a limited lifespan before a series becomes stale, and NCAA Football is dangerously close to that point.

The approach to the NCAA Football series has been relatively the same since NCAA Football 99, with only incremental improvements each year building on top of the previous package. However, just as with Halloween, the core tenets of the series have remained the same to solid financial success. But just as with Halloween, the same act seems to be getting tired.

NCAA Football 10 isn’t a bad game by any means, but the game represents only a marginal upgrade over last year's title overall, which leaves you wondering if we'll ever see a truly great NCAA Football anytime soon.

Good, honest article. Well done.

I'm pretty much sold on this game now. I think the negatives can be overlooked, and are much less of a problem than last years. A lot of people are saying EA didn't do enough this year, I'm not so sure. They seem to have fixed all the problems i had with last years game. Looking forward to getting this tomorrow.
Good job on the review btw.

do you have a picture of the endzones?

A fair review, but I would have expected a bit lower score given the many glaring areas that NCAA Football apparently fails at this year.

No screenshots from me man, I simply don't have the equipment. It was really strange how they turned out like that. I haven't seen anyone else complain about it, so it might've just been something I personally did wrong.

Chris, I feel like you contradicted yourself with this review. You mention marginal improvements at best, but you say it has the best gameplay of next gen. Its a very good review, and you are right on with the presentation aspects, but I still think its at least an 8.5 due to the great improvement in gameplay.

I think the gameplay is simply good enough that it covers up a lot of the issues enough to keep the game from wandering into average territory. However, if the gameplay were broken, this game might've been in the 5-6 range. Of course, if the presentation was done well, this game would be a 9 to 9.5.

Damn I'm torn, I love College Football...I don't know if I can stomach this game. the fact I'm sitting here instead of standing in some line somewhere should tell me a lot.

Interesting take. I agree. You have played Madden right? We know the presentation is blown out for it this year, and all indications point to better gameplay than NCAA (with Pro-Tak and all) Does this mean something very special come August 14th?

I haven't played Madden, so I can't comment on it. But I think barring broken software, we are definitely in for a special title next month. I've been saying that for a couple months

If EA could get the presentation and college atmosphere right...this game would be amazing. they do it on the PS2 versions, why can't they spend the time to do it in the next gen versions?

If you don't buy this game, well you wouldn't be much of a college football fan.

Awesome. Shouldn't you be getting your Madden Beta copy soon for the review?

Oh one more question about your review. Do feel like the running game is Leaps and bounds better than any previous year, or is it just me? lol. I just love how you see the hole, then when you hit it you can see cutback lanes develop.

Interesting review. I have not owned a current gen NCAA Football game yet, and I can't wait for it to arrive tomorrow. I really can't nitpick on your review, however, I really believe the web app for Teambuilder is 100 times easier than anything that can be done on a console. A keyboard and mouse interface top a controller input any time of day. Other than that minor opinion, thanks for the fairly objective points that you've made.

I 100% agree, the running game is definitely improved. As with everything else, the foundations were there last year, but the execution just wasn't. They put it together and did a good job with the running game this year, and if you simply hold down the sprint button you aren't going to be able to mount a run game. It's much more realistic and very well done. A big reason? The line play is much better this year
