Madden 2010 News Post

Check out the latest Madden NFL 10 blog. This one covers customization, plus a "behind the scenes" look at a design document.

Quote:
"Hello again Madden fans, we're back again with another weekly blog detailing some more behind-the-scenes exclusive content from the development team as we create Madden NFL 10. Last week was a very busy week with our president Peter Moore presenting the first screenshot [link] and our Art Director Mike Young going into some extreme detail in regards to the improvements and additions made in the shot [link]. This week we thought it would be a good idea to go deeper into an area that we know is very near and dear to the community - the topic of customization.

A typical trait of every game designer is that usually they are in love with their ideas. This is usually always a really good thing (assuming their ideas are good) because if you don't like an idea that you are designing or working on implementing, often you won't have the passion to get that "extra something" into the feature to make it special, or tune it 100% correctly, or make it really stand out. As you might expect, this can also be a major downside to a designer, as often times it is easy to get stuck thinking where you know (or think) you are right and you don't want to change that idea. It is so hard to not be defensive...after all, you put your blood sweat and tears into this feature! You worked til 3 am for a week putting in extra details and tuning it to perfection! How could anyone not feel the same way you do?!?!?"

I simultaneously love this blog and am a little disappointed by it. The new settings screen looks much easier to use, and this blog kinda confirms that the much needed CPU sliders and Accelerated clock will be there, but we already figured that. It doesn't confirm much else. We already knew about the game speed and that stuff, that's a fabulous edition. I like that it seems we may get more control over fatigue which has been another sore spot for me over the last few years. I think this blog is good because it reinforces previous improvements that we've already talked about, but it didn't give us much new information.

On the other hand, it is very interesting to see a little inside the process of how these things work in game development. And as always, Ian your efforts are greatly appreciated. I think that I'm just anxious for some of the bigger info to drop.

So I'm thinking it's going to have game sliders, like Nba 2K9....

let me give you and example of real and not real if im sitting there on ofence i can change a formation and package of players on every play lets say play 1 i got 4 wrs play 2 i go big goal line then back to 4wrs in real life i would not be able to call the plays fast cause im constantly changing my player personal not only that the play clock would be low, cant you run off an extra 10 sec than the normal accelerated clock if you change you player personal because if i kept the same players on for the whole drive with acel clock on
then yeah it makes sence to have it wind down to whatever you have it at with the same amount of time but if i change formations and player personal every single play then that would be more realistic also would create situations at and end of a game were you find teams or online players not changing everyplay cause they want to save time. i hope that makes sence
I'm sorry, what?? Paragraphs and punctuation are your friends.

Kinda surprised few are caring about the injury and fatigue sliders...those have been requests for over 5 years I think.

Also, accelerated clock threshold is a number at which the play clock will run down to...you can toggle between 15, 20, and 25 seconds. Say you have it set to 15 seconds, then as long as the play clock is at 15 or above, then it will run down to 15. Same for 20 or 25.

You know, now that you point that out...

The blog wasn't really my cup of tea but still important. I'm looking forward to sometime later this week when we get the really good one.

Make sure those other camera angles and a Custom camera option become more of a priority. It is SILLY that Madden is the ONLY sports game with no other camera options.

PS - Accelerated clock (as of right now) doesn't accelerate in the final 2 minutes of each half. I know this has been hotly debated, so if you guys want to bring back that thread again I'd be happy to discuss the decision.

I've never really messed with the acclr. clock in the past, how does it work in the final minute/seconds of a game, I wouldn't get bamboozled some way and run out of time, would it ?

edit* i've been trying to use bamboozled in a forum post for some time now, finally got it out of me!

I hope I"m wrong. If not, why?

Also are the penalties the same? Will the sliders actually have more impact on penalties?

I LOVE the fact that we can go full bore with stat overlays and replay frequency though Ian, I've been crying for years about that. THank you.
This was changed to be global in 09. I think this is actually a valid approach - the CPU still has error in all their kicks and power, so to make it so they can't kick as far seemed a little cheap. Obviously if the tuning is busted then that's a problem, but this was changed last year and it actually seems to be ok. If you guys have major complaints with it from 09, then let me know.

As for the penalty sliders, one of the patches in 09 DRASTICALLY improved their importance. Again though, if you guys have any specific feedback on those sliders not working to your liking, send me a PM.

yeah Ian does acc clock still work in the last two minutes? I hope it does as it will make actually using hurry up offense faster and make you use your timeouts and spiking the ball important.

This is awesome news! I've had every next-gen Madden and in all my franchises, I have never had ONE SINGLE PLAYER hurt for longer than the current game. Hopefully this finally fixes this problem that I've had so that your depth chart is actually relevant!
Keep up the great work!

Keep up the great work!

Play with Reggie Bush = problem solved.

but hey, as they say around here, " If it's seen on Sunday"

And yes, every Sunday, it seems Reggie goes down, IRL.

EA, please. For the love of sunlight & all that is good. Add team colored cleats!!!
As long as we get the cleats just like the gloves and elbow bands in the primary and secondary team colors.
That's all I'm asking for. Think of the Seahawks fans man. You can't "really" have the Seahawks without the Black/Lime Green Cleats...C'mon!!!
