The worst part is, I had one out with men on 2nd and 3rd, and I gave Ruiz a free pass to try and set up the double play. Brought the corners in so if its hit to them we'll go home to first, up the middle would be a traditional double play.

I had Hamels down 1-2, tried to throw a slider that started in the zone but was to break off, but it just spun and he popped it out.

Blah, I've given up on trying to DL this thing. I've tried at least two dozen times over the last three days and it never gets past 6%.

Oh well, guess I'll just have to wait three more weeks.

I know the demo represents a much earlier build of the game, but I hope they noticed and fixed a tagging issue that I've seen a few times while playing the demo. I also saw this same thing happen in MLB 08 but it didn't happen that often so I just overlooked it.

I've only seen this problem occur on plays at second base. What happens is this.............

A runner his headed to second base trying to leg out an extra base hit. The second baseman receives the throw early, bends down to apply the tag but the runner is only about half way between first and second. The second base man stands up prematurely lifting his glove/ball and allows the runner to slide into 2nd safe........very frustrating when this happens, especially when it extends an inning or leads to a run scoring that shouldn't have!!!

I've seen this happen while I was on offense and defense both. But it always seems to happen when the second baseman has to stand there with the ball longer than usual on a typical play at the bag. Like I said, I've only seen it happen maybe twice in 20-30 demo games so it's not a huge thing. I really hope this has been tweaked through their optimization efforts

Other than that, this game is a thing of beauty and I can't wait to get my hands on it!!!!

Controller scheme question:

I still think that (when in the field) the MVP series used the R stick the best way. Unlike the Show, where the R stick up is jump and down is dive, you just had to point the R stick in the direction you wanted to dive or jump and the player would react appropriate to the play.

Now pushing the R stick down for a dive to the right or left just doesn't feel natural to me. Ofcourse you can also use the R1/R2 buttons but I just can't seem to get used to the R1 button as jump botton. I want to press R2 for everything haha.

Now I was really stoked when I saw the option in the menu to assign one button (R1 or R2) for diving/jumping and that it will automatically make the right decision in the particular situation (dive or jump). Now in the demo this didn't work that well. When I wanted to dive to a grounder in the infield it would jump etc.
Does anyone know if this will be addressed in the final built?

Maybe I just played too many MVP games but that R stick was just the best

I agree, I'd love for the R-Stick to be used in that manner.

The demo is great. How great? I have demos of killzone 2 and Resident Evil 5 downloaded but haven't installed either one yet.

This is 1 of 1000 comments I could make about the demo:
I love the realistic OF routes. I get a special feeling when my user controlled OF runs realistic routes...it makes close plays at any base feel right. Shadows on the field, a working region only cursor for fielding, perfect OF speed in relation to the type of hit from the batter, screaming "into the action" fans, crazy realistic stadium lighting, smooth 1080p 60 fps play, etc... only add to the realism of the game. Ok, that was more than 1 comment. I just can't say enough. Kudos, SCEA.

Took a game last night into the bottom of the 9th inning. I finally ended it on a hit down the left field line to drive in my runner from second. It was the only run of the game. I drove in 3 runs in the first inning in the following game, so right away, I can see variation in the way the games will end. Can't wait to get a hold of my Jays now!

yes.

I was thinking that baserunners were too fast getting down the line to first, only to realize that I was tapping the throw button. After I started holding it down longer, the plays aren't close at first anymore on routine groundballs.

interesting. i'm always in a constant struggle with myself trying to minimize clutter (eg. all fielding aids off, guess pitch off) vs keeping things on screen (eg. meter pitching) if it means more realistic gameplay. wow, if the throwing meter works this way, it would be hard to keep this off. i wish there was a way to have everything work as if it was on screen, but have it invisible..if that makes sense.

I think a little older than that actually....5-6.(doesn't sound like much...but when you see how much they did in one day!....you better understand just how much that is!)

Alright, finally got to play the demo...

+ Lighting is awesome. I love facing Hamels in the top of the 1st and having the sun bounce off of the brick in back, makes it tough to pick up the pitches he throws. This is going to add a ton of immersion to this game, a TON.

+ Hit variety seems a lot better, my only gripe to this point would be no broadcast cam, only because it looks so damn good on replays

My only questions:

Has the ball shadow skipping frames been fixed this year? I know it only happened in certain ballparks, but it was annoying.

I noticed a cut scene at the end of my second game with the demo, where the Phils had a walk off hit, and the cut scene showed the players going nuts, but the crowd was just sitting there, seemed weird ( and I think this was in the game last year).

Last question - I noticed after sliding in to home the dirt cover the chalk lines (which is awesome by the way), but I also noticed that if I replayed the same play over and over the chalk lines would disappear and reappear. HAHA. I know it is HUGE nitpick, but it just seemed a little strange.

Anyways, I'm not surprised. This game is still the best sports game ever.

And they aren't even complaints!!! This is the only reason I have a PS3 or video game system in general. Those days are slowly passing me by, but MLB 09 and beyond will keep me coming back.

I notice the game plays smoother in 1080P when compared to last year! Are you guys noticing this as well?

someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe throwing works this way whether the throw meter is on or not, if you have it off the meter is just not visible. I play with it off and have no problem differentiating between my throws.

But I also haven't payed that much attention so I very well could be wrong.

I just popped '08 in and set up the same scenario (Rays @ Phils...Kazmir/Hamels...day game). Wow...they don't even look like the same game. One thing that jumped out at me immediately was that the pitching release is much, much better this year. I hadn't noticed that the ball seemed to "jump" out of the pitcher's hand like it was missing a few frames last year.

The stadium looks immensely better this year...in '08 it really looks flat in comparison. Needless to say, I couldn't finish and quickly turned the '09 demo back on.

I don't know if anyone else has had it happen, but runner on second and a base hit to my center fielder, I have charged balls to throw home, but my outfielder slows up to receive the ball and then does a crow-hop and throw. I'm not saying that he stops, but his speed reduces so much that the runner makes it home safely. You guys can defend the purpose of this to death, but it doesn't take that much slowing up to catch the ball, and there are quicker crow-hops to get the ball home, too. Must I make a video of myself doing this?

And aside from home runs, balls in the gap, or balls off the wall, I haven't seen a ball clear an outfielder's head, and I'm talking some low-liner shots that get out there quickly are being tracked down. The outfield speed seems right though, so it must either be that they're playing deep or the ballpark is that small.

On that same token, I'm having zero success with Howard because of that damn shift!

I think I'm bickering because I haven't won in like 15 straight games!
