We have posted our review of NBA 2K9. Enjoy!

"The NBA 2K series has a lot in common with the San Antonio Spurs. They’re both consistently competitive no matter who pops up to challenge them. They’re also proven winners. The 2K series has been the undisputed basketball champion since at least 2005, while the Spurs have won four NBA championships since 1999. Both of them suffered slight setbacks last season, but these setbacks weren't enough to take them out of the game. Now for the 2008-2009 season, both sides are looking to regain their dominance."

every ear this game The Best Baskettball Game I Ever Played...this year is no exception....

we all the know that the online world isnt a perfect world...why judge somn if its not running at its best when it eventually will?.......

if it were running perfectly right now i'd give a 9.5. good review

NBA players start feeling it, go on runs. I haven't seen outrageous offensive rebounding, but I have seen turnaround, fadaway 3s being drained on me. 2k9 is the best, most realistic game we have been given yet, plain and simple.

If you mean realistic that they all look good, maybe, but it does not play realistically at all, at least not with any sliders i could find and this site is full of people who agree with me.
Well, any of my passes going through 3 people ALWAYS get stolen, I haven't been able to get an alley-oop to work, I have only had one cpu alley-oop against me in a week. In the NBA, when teams play, do they shoot the same percentage every game? No way in hell! If they did there would be no competition. I agree that the FG percentage is high, but it goes both ways, and I think it is to keep scores more realistic. I play 8 minute quarters, and average around 100 points a game. Seems pretty realistic to me. I have only used default sliders with no problems. No one plays the same every time they play, that is human. To make a teams FG % 40% every game would be incredibly more unrealistic than having hot and cold nights. If other peoples sliders aren't working, you can try editing your own. I haven't had problems, so I most likely won't be doing that.

BUT, this is really kind of ridiculous. First, I adjust the global Sliders, then the Coaches Profiles, now I also need the "correct" rosters adjustments?!!!! For me, even DL'n someone else's adjustments is tough, because ultimately I trust my judgement most-unless it's coming straight from the top. So, maybe I'll go with 2K Insider's rosters, but, if I choose not to, then I have to do that myself, also-big pain in the butt. And, if the rosters are really the big factor of all the inaccuracy, then I may have to start all over! But, why are the rosters so skewed in the first place?! So, the gameplay is there, but the numbers are all messed up?!!!!!
2K9 will definitely be remembered as a great game......after many......many adjustments. Not cool, 2K.

I just want to play the damn game!!!!!
How do you use the 2k share to even get those rating changes???

well idl played a game i won against the wizards 111-107 and well the Wizards scored 70 points in the paint and had 24 ft attempts made 21 against my 5 attempts.Im going ot play a second game against the warriors now and if the Points in the pain even pass 50 im done with this game

I don't want to have to sit down infront of this game and adjust sliders for hours just for the game to play realistic. I want the damn game to play realistic out of the box. Stop giving 2k a cop out. The default sliders are a joke. Only reason I'm even talking about the sliders is because I have been forced to play offline against the CPU who is cheap as hell. If I could play ONLINE it wouldn't be as bad.

never understood that argument.

Im sorry but I NEED THE 2K CAM!!!!

I dont know whats worse..the idiot who thought it was a good idea to get rid of 2k cam online or the idiots who approved that! If you can have the cam offline why in the world would they take it off online? I need that camera to see the lanes and intercept steals and get in front of people who try to drive to the hole. In broadcast or any of those other views I simply cannot do that and people who I know I can beat just walk up to the basket and score repeatedly and I am helpless. Also when I try to select another camera( i only tried iso cause its closest to 2k online) the action slows down and becomes laggy when the action comes to the bottom court that is closest to the camera...basically when you are going down on iso cam. This is extremely frustrating and 2k is lucky that live is crap cause I would switch up immediately. Also team up is fun as hell when it works. as of this posting I have been able to play about 5 full lag free complete games and I had a ball in this mode. With 2k the way it is i would give it a 6 or 7. if they fix lag a 7 or 8. if they give me my damn 2k cam back online then a 10!!!!!!

WHERE ARE OUR LOBBIES? We can't even filter out all these damn Kobe/LeBron cheesers without lobbies! Instead of lauding 2K for beating the mentally challenged, overweight kid with one arm and a stumpy leg in dodgeball, why not CRITIQUE 2K for squandering its own potential with this messy, unfinished, buggy P.O.S. they've released this year?

Good post.

I think a lot of the "love loss" has to do with Live being a somewhat decent game this year and the online issues.

For those wondering about the "online issues," 2k manages their servers while I believe EA does not; They let MS manage their NBA Live servers (unless this has changed). A few things are obvious:

-The traffic differences are very glaring. All anyone talks about with this game is online this and online that... while it's difficult to find enough people to play Live online. I can always find someone... but it's not very populated online. Let's not use this to take away from EA's server performance though; I can find a game and connect with little to no effort.

-2k's management of their online servers have been poor at best. I believe they are genuinely trying to iron things out but it's been a bumpy ride along the way.

I found there were still to many easy shots and layups being missed so I changed the sliders to 65 for close shot and layup sucess. It seems to have helped a lot. Good review, but the game hasn't evolved very much from last year.

I still think the review score should be much lower since online is currently not a part of the game. I just think online deserves much more impact on a score than it does. If Gears of War didn't have online, it's score would be cut dramatically.

Super review! However, I disagree with you on:

"Sometimes there are problems with your teammates reacting to play calls when you do choose to do set plays though. Either they’ll go too slowly from point to point during a play or just simply go to the wrong spot on the court. If you’ve played any previous editions you’re used to it, but that doesn't make it all right. "

I think it's more than alright because that's the way basketball is. Just as players have hot/cold streaks in shooting, or fatigue that fluctuates up/down, awareness on offense and defense can do the same thing.

Perfect example: Remember Fred Brown of Georgetown against North Carolina in 1982 when he passed the ball to James Worthy and lost the game? Sure it was a bone-headed mistake on his part, but what if his teammate cut backdoor instead of breaking to the ball? We could go back and review the tape, but the point is this happens every game whether it is reality or virtual. I love it! It adds a wrinkle. Just one more thing that any anal coach has got to try and control as the game progresses.

Of course, you did say "sometimes". If it happened a majority of times that would be ridiculous.

Anyway, great review! I really did enjoy reading this!

why no "superstar mode"

"...If too many players are in a Team Up game it seems like lag can become an issue at times, or games simply won't be able to start and so forth...I'll assume this ties into the initial launch rush and everything will be figured out in the coming days..."

Really? What, in the sport gaming universe, has ever given you the confidence that allows for this assumption? Has this been fixed in your view? It hasn't in mine.

After initally liking this game and its review,, I have changed my mind. This is one of the WORST versions of nba 2k i have ever played. Its damn near impossible impossible to play a realistic game against a human oppenant. They cheesed this one up BIG TIME. Aside from the team up, graphics, presentation, and 2kshare, there isn't much I like about this game. The only mdes even WORTH playing are team up and association. Why the heck did 2K take out the LOBBIES, HALL OF FAME RANKED GAMES AND CHANG THE HELP DEFENSE LOGIC AND PROIXMITY DEFENSE LOGIC. eVERY DECENT THREE PT SHOOTER CAN HIT IN THIS GAME IF THEY GET A GOOD LOOK 0% OF THE TIME. WTF. THERE IS NO D UNLESS ITS A BLOCK OR STEAL. TOO EASY TO BLOCK AND STEAL, THE CPU AI IS STUPID ON YOUR TEAM, AND THE PRESS AND TRAP IS AWEY TOO FDAMN EFFECTIVE. IF I WANTED TO PLAY COLLEGE BALL, I'D BE PLAYING A COLLEGE GAME. OMFG!!!!!! PPL WHOi WOULD HAVE RUN OUT OF THE GYM ON EARLIER VERISONS OF 2K CAN NOW COMPETE WITH BECAUSE THIS GAME IS A PIECE OF CRAP. DEFINATLY GOING TO RENT THE NEXT VERSION FIRST.
