We have posted our review of NBA 2K9. Enjoy!

Quote:
"The NBA 2K series has a lot in common with the San Antonio Spurs. They’re both consistently competitive no matter who pops up to challenge them. They’re also proven winners. The 2K series has been the undisputed basketball champion since at least 2005, while the Spurs have won four NBA championships since 1999. Both of them suffered slight setbacks last season, but these setbacks weren't enough to take them out of the game. Now for the 2008-2009 season, both sides are looking to regain their dominance."

very, very true....
people see a fire... and choose to ignore the buckets of water put there for them, so they can complain instead....

It's really baffling at this point, man. I mean, with 2kshare I don't get it. Last year, I could get it, but now you're just a couple of clicks away from a great, great basketball game. At this point, I'm more than content to shut up and let people whine while I play my favorite bball game ever.

Once they have the 5-on-5 working properly online, I am as happy as a virtual bballer can get.

people are saying sliders will help when it really doesnt at all. yea it will change the outsome of soem game stats but most if not all the time its all bs. Seeing how the cpu is focused to score in the paint for some reason. Iv downloaded 4 sliders and tested them out and played with the same team against the same team and the same results happen with the cpu not knowing its possible to shoot a mid range jumper and only focus to score in the paint and shoot 3s that dont make sense at all. Only a Patch can save this game like the patched for madden that made it 10x better

It's not sliders, man, it's the RATINGS. DL the Real 2k Insider ratings and tell me how the game plays. It's night and day with proper ratings. After DLing that roster, you can move up the foul slider and enjoy the best sim ever.

Honestly this is the happiest i've been with a nba game since 2k3, and unlike the last 2 years i think i'll still feel like this in December.

i dont get it how do player rating effect the cpu from only focusing on scoring inside the paint? And if i dl those roster what sliders are the best result(on all star)

Play a game straight up before you touch the sliders after you DL the rosters. The tendencies and ratings have PLENTY to do with CPU behavior. Once the ratings are adjusted, the CPU intelligence reacts appropriately. With proper ratings, the game doesn't need nearly as much tweaking as it does when it thinks Jason Richardson is a 99 in 3pt shooting, lol.

I don't play online much so I can't say whats going on there, but from the gameplay which is the most important part of playin, I think the flow of any given game is very high. It juss seems to work in every way on my game. Only thing I'm tryna figure out now is how to do my sliders so that my games don't end up with consistantly high scores (Because I play 12 min quarters during my games). Ive tried slowing down the game speed to 30 which is a first I have ever had to do in any game. Scoring isnt a bad thing but my field goal % is always outrageous so i'll prolly have to bring that down in my game sliders. I just think this game rocks in every way and think over the course of a season people will be glad they picked this up over live.

Download either Nogster or the Real 2k insider's roster files, and go from there, man. You'll be shocked at how this game goes to a near perfect sim after you do so. You're welcome in advance.

I think its a good review..minus some of the things he missed. Shot releases take to long sometimes, so even if you have space, the defense can Still recover. PLUS fast breaks suffer from players STOPPING to catch the ball rather than catching it in stride. Post Defense is HORRIBLE. If you use lock on D, big men will just shoot over you since you can't put your hands up, but if you put your hands up, they will just go right around you. Another thing about putting your hands up, unless you are DIrectly in front or your man you're guarding, it's like you're not even there. Off a tiny bit to either side and it's worthless.

Do I love this years edition...I think so, but it has more issues than you should have to deal with out the box for me to give it a 9 out of 10...8.2 is a better rating....8.5 at best

great review. besides the ***** that keep on complaining about everything. this is a great game and well deserved a 9.0

# 52 Klocker @ 10/14/08 03:33 AM
this game deserves every bit of a 9. the mst realistic recreation of the NBA that I have ever seen (been playing games since PONG in 76). well done... albeit with some things to work on, but all in all an outstanding effort. the graphical upgrade alone and the animations and the subtle improvements from 2k8 make it a 9 ALL DAY LONG.

It's like having a little version of the NBA living in my tv.

I have to say that I agree with most of this review as well. I am falling in love with this game. The more I play it the more I like it. I messed with some sliders, created a decent looking Michael Jordan, and started my Association with the Bulls. I am playing on Superstar with 10 min quarters and getting mostly realistic stats.

The computer comes back from 13 points with a flurry of full court man to man, and insane shots...but it is fun! Its really like a real NBA game...no matter what happens with the first three quarters...start watching my game in the 4th quarter, and you will see a back and forth battle. It gets really intense with the crowd chanting defense and screaming in your ears.

The online issues bring this game down a full point at least for me. It's a major part of the game for me that is severely lacking in execution. I would agree with the score if it were mainly talking about offline basketball, I think the game is great. But online, especially the much hyped 5v5, is virtually unplayable and that for me, brings down the entire experience.

# 55 johnny33 @ 10/14/08 08:29 AM
I havent played online yet, and don't plan to except with friends. I hate playing online because I either play cheesers, or if I'm winning they disconnect. My only gripe is with the frame rate issues, fix that and it's a 9.5...

# 56 BlackRome @ 10/14/08 08:44 AM
Hopefully 2K will fix the sliders for online play. I'm sorry but I did not see a layup bug. I had no problem with missing a layup when someone played good D. It made you think twice about just running to the hole. You knew you had to have a good angle and actually get to the back board. Hopefully they will calm down the scoring in the paint with updates.

can't really disagree with the points about the actual gameplay...but the framerate issues and aawful online experience so far really ruin the entire experience for me so far...

Without having played the game, the reaction to this review sounds very mixed...kind of in line with our NCAA review this summer. Some people said the bugs in the game precluded such a high score (8.5) for NCAA while others were absolutely loving the game. I think from what I hear, the Gameplay is pretty stinking good as far as the realism goes and such, hopefully the framerate issues are fixed in a patch soon (as well as the online stuff).

Sure offline is great, it always has been. I'd give it a 9/10 easily. But offline is about as close to a 0 as you can get right now.

The video game world is all about online these days. The most popular games are almost all online based. To have a game come out without online, while it's competitor has it, should somewhat shrink the gap between the two companies. And I'm greatly critical of EA, but I think they have gotten the shaft a bit this year. Their game has improved, and their online is superior to 2K. So I think they should be given more credit for that and be put at least on equal par with 2K9 until the online issues get sorted out (if they ever do).
Just because they improved Live doesn't put it on par with 2k, far from it actually. Live was WAY behind 2k, and while it has improved, it still isn't anywhere near the game 2k is.
