I finally figured out the isomotion, I've had the revelation, lol. I dropped 15 with Kobe in a game I just played with four insane dunks including a windmill on Perkins and KG. Ray Ray just kept playing me tight as hell so I'd blow by him every time. That DIT slider is going to be going down, down, down. Also had a few nasty pick-n-rolls with Gasol. I finally hit a game winner, down 10-9 I had Bynum set a pick and headfaked with Kobe when the screen was being set, took two dribbles to the middle of the court and burried a wide open elbow jumper as time expired.

I love how the match ups are so much more realistic this year. Big guys can't stay in front of guards and you can really work to exploit mismatches like a IRL. It's even easier w. the new isomotion, it's quick, easy and effective.

I'm also yet to win the tip off after about 25 games.

so let's say Live is a 10 in graphics (not faces or fans, just Image Quality during gameplay) what would you rate 2k9?

I was able to finally win multiple tip offs by pressing traingle repeatedly before the ref throws it up -

I also just saw Pierce alter his shot on me!!! I recall in Pared's posts that he had not seen the CPU do it - It was a straight up drive by him and went up with the right and up and undered it to the left and in - sweetness.

What was the adjustment you made to figure out the isomotion?

Some other things I'm noticing now that I'm also getting the hang of things.

What I said before about lock-on D...not only does the game remember your lock-on assignments through rematches (I think), but it remembers them by player. If Odom switches to Rondo and Fisher switches to Allen, Odom will lock-on dead center giving Rondo space while Fisher would lock-on playing tight and shading to Allen's right to force him to his weak side. That's a great feature that really helps immerse the feature into the game.

And shading in general is SUPER useful in the post against a guy like Perkins, you can absolutely deny him the basket if you cut off his strong shoulder.

edit: Apparently if you're right on the guy when you hit lock-on though, it'll switch to a tight lock on automatically. kind of a bummer.

Man, I still can't get to the basket, but I don't even need to with Kobe any more. Now that I have that back-step-dribble down, and the mid-range is opened up more, I can break Ray Allen down seemingly any time I want to from 12 - 15 feet out. So sweet, so pure.

# 347 WTF @ 10/03/08 12:47 AM
I just threw a just flat out nasty oop to Odom... he had to reach back to catch it and throw it down... Fast break, Kobe goes to the left, throws it behind is back to the right to underhand the oop to a cutting Odom... Odom reaches out and throws it down.

A Bynum block started the whole 2 on 1...

I'm having a really good time with this Demo. Once I figure the controls out, should get even better. After tweaking the game, I'm thinking we'll have a really nice NBA Sim on our hands.

I think it's a follow through I guess. In 2K8, when doing a crossover I'd hold R2 and just flick the stick and used to let it go and let the animation play out and then press the stick again. Now I keep holding the stick in the direction I crossed in and everything smoothed out.

The biggest thing just now though was using it out of the triple threat position which I couldn't do at all the first 20 games or so I played. L2 & R2 to jab step with Kobe, Ray would step back then get right back up in my grill and I'd just hold R2 and flick to the stick to the left or the right and then hold it at the basket (so usually diagonally up).

I also stopped playing NBA2K8 pretty early last year as I was obsessed with CHoops which had face-button iso moves so I def need to readjust. Maybe this is how things worked all along in 2K8, I just couldn't remember, hehe.

Man the isomotion is beautiful, the spin moves are pretty effective.

Thanks, man. That info will be real useful in about two hours

It just feels more simple than 2K8, it's kinda hard to explain. When I just hold R2 and flick the stick in the demo (while I've already been dribbling) the guy will tightly sneak by his defender and get some distance, he'll probably travel a solid 5-8 feet forward within the animation. It's pretty damn cool, looks and feels much more realistic. While defensive players ice skating is still there a bit it's not nearly as bad, you don't need relatively large separation to get by a guy anymore. And I haven't seen the "I just beat my guy with a cross over and somehow he morphs back in front of me" animation. Def an improvement.

I have some nice clips of Kobe dunks/highlight real esque. But I can't find my cable to transfer them, haha.

Once I learned the controls a little, I got to the rim at ease... don't like that necessarily, but it's hard to get a good look at the basket once you do get there. Toning down dunks in traffic will be huge. Overall.. color me highly impressed.

I'm sucking switching back to the Celtics, but two more things I noticed.

A) Hopefully this is just the demo, but the CPU seems to be able to get those infamous running starts from just about anywhere on the court. I've had Pau and Fisher rumbling at my hoop all game long whenever I become the Celtics. I'm a little jealous either way, I've scored maybe 4 layups and I've played this demo at least 20 times. I can recall both dunks I made, one with Pau and one with Kobe. Dribbling in this game got really hard for me.

B) If you always bring the ball up with Rondo, try giving it to Pierce or Garnett around the halfcourt line. It seems like at least 40% of the time I hand the ball off Rondo STREAKS to the basket and really loses Fisher, Gasol or Bynum jsut cuts the lane off so I don't try the pass. But Rondo is a little pest, I can't wait to see someone like Iverson or Monta.

I agree. 2K is caught between a rock and a hard place though - I mean Kobe SHOULD be able to blow by Ray damn near every time. The help defense might have to be toned a bit, you could tell that since Ray is playing Kobe at maximum pressure that the CPU is trying to force him to put the ball on the floor and lead him towards the help D, which in the demo isn't all that great - partly because of the DIT issue. Nothing you can do when Kobe starts a windmill from outside the paint, lol. It is tough to get a good look w. pretty much everyone but Kobe though. It's good for Pierce, Allen, Odom, etc.

Another little thing - you can finally put your hands up on inbounds passes. Probably won't mean anything because of how the game's passing works, but it's nice visually to press right up on that line waving KG's arms around.

Alright, I'm taking that "continuation" comment very literally and starting to get the hang of it. Basically, and this philosophy might catch some cheesers off guard hopefully, you have to actually play basketball it feels like. You don't just hit a button and your guy does some spectacular thing - if you want to cross around that guy, you can't start thinking about a spin while you're still getting around him, you have to hold that thought until it's done.

Pretty sure that's been in for a few years, can't remember if it's been in NBA but it's def been in CHoops - and it def didn't do anything, lol.

I didn't really play CHoops but in NBA you could still do steals but guys wouldn't do the arm raising no matter what.

Yeah, a Kobe windmill from outside the paint is pretty commonplace. I have one captured. Just have to find a way to upload them. I wish that they had all simple dunks for in traffic... but... they don't, lol.

Hopefully I can find my cable soon. Have 3-4 nasty highlights real quick.

Man, this game is going to really push "The Show" as sports game of the year I feel. It has so many little things, and it is only a demo. Kobe committed a foul and he showed his disapproval by crying to the ref. So, very true to life.
