"Basketball will be coming to your computers this year. Many of you have already seen that NBA 2K9 will be released on the PC on various sites, and I wanted to confirm that. The extra bit of news, however, is that the game will be a XBOX 360 port. It will be released October 21st in PC gaming stores everywhere."

Maybe there is no dna in the pc version, those roster updates if that is indeed dna.

That would be ideal becuase you don't need that on the pc, modding community makes better rosters anyway and more frequently.

Speculation in this thread is going bananas. If it's a port of the 360 version, then what exactly would that mean? That means that whatever is in the 360 version out of the box is in the PC version. Let's subtract XBL just in case someone wants to get the PC version and feels the desire to get bitter. The game is going to be exactly how it is when you play it in the 360, and the PS3 for that matter. Simple as that. Speculation about them removing features that are in the 360 has no basis because it is a port. Be serious and read what is put before. Don't speculate.

Heck, wasn't the 2K5 lineup only $19.99 when it was first release? I mean, you have to be serious when taking in all aspects of the company. They're not winning or losing. Only a few people who were going to buy it on the 360 are going to only buy it solely for the PC. In all consideration, if you buy it for PC but have friends that like coming over, you might not want them playing on PC with you. I know that if I buy PC, I'll have to buy 360 because my friends won't be interested in coming over here to play on my PC. Just not happening even though it's the same game. PC is more for the personal fun while the 360 is the party system. I'll probably get both, but buying the PC version gives me more leeway in buying the 360 version. I don't have to buy the 360 version immediately in order to experience what everyone else is experiencing.

Another thing is the fact that we don't know how "open" the game will be for modding. Just as someone said in this thread, Madden is a closed case when it comes to editing and modding correct? Maybe 2K would want to keep it closed too since their ties to the NBA aren't as solid as EA's would be. Never know what the NBA might pull with the game anyhow. Look at both extremes and be prepared for whatever since we don't have solid evidence as of yet. Just a word of caution and warning for those getting hyped. Most likely, the game will be for Vista, but if I call correctly, people have turned Vista games into XP games with an addition or subtraction. It'll only be a matter of time.......

Edit: By the way, online playing will be free for PC to PC playing.

As far as modding and assuming some programmers crack the games files and make utilities we can.....

Edit Rosters and any hidden attributes.
Add new jerseys/shoes/courts/teams/unlimited players
Edit/improve textures
Rearrange/reassign animations
Edit sounds/music/replace Harlan with Marv Albert
Change overlays to look more like an authentic ESPN or TNT broadcast.
Edit the CPU AI.

I could go on.

I'm probably going to get both the 360 and PC versions. $20 is nothing.
If 2ksports engine support patchs right?

I try search some TOP SPIN 2 patches in the web, but not find anything..

TOP SPIN 2 have the same engine than NBA 2k8.

I hope 2k9 support patchs, but i dont think be easy bro!

I'm thinking that since they already have it developed for 360, it wasn't as hard to port it to the PC than it would have been to build a 360/PS3 type game for the PC from the ground up and that's why they can afford to sell it for 20 bucks.

I dunno, I'm just happy!!!!!!!

a straight 360 port for only $20 is a steal!

I hope they release either a PC demo or atleast a minimum requirements list.

I wonder if they thought the response would be this much over a PC game?

Yeah I think its hilarious what some are suggesting will be possible with this version on PC. Replace Kevin's voice with Marv? PC MODS will update rosters faster and more often than 2K's Living Rosters? Are you kidding me? If you think the game will allow that amount of freedom for a first time PC port then your going to be highly mistaken. You will be lucky to change anything at all with this version but it certainly wont be anywhere near the level some of you guys are predicting (especially if it is in fact $20).

Hopefully they'll make it as easy possible for modders to work their magic, without having to spend weeks/months making a program to make it possible.

But I can guarantee we will at least be able to texture mod(From day 1) the game even if 2K deliberately tried to stop modding(Which wouldn't make much sense).

No, it depends on if its even POSSIBLE. All this talk about how much and how often things could be modded is all speculation right now... people are jumping the gun way too much when speaking about this and misleading others, especially when you dont know yourself. I think its fair to say that it should LOOK better and run smoother on CAPABLE PC systems but to come out and say what and things MODS WILL do at this point is pointless.

Thats cool and all, Im not knocking what one could do on NBA Live for PC in the past... what Im talking about is jumping the gun when we have zero info about this version.

Well, I had a look at 2k8's files on the 360's disc. If 2ksports keeps a similar format on the pc, modding anything other then textures could be tough. It's basically one big container/archive split into several different files. A programmer would have to crack it's format to gain access to the individual files, then crack whatever format those files are in, not to mention figure out how to get mods in the individual files and back in the archive.

Are all 360 games archived like that though? It may just be how all 360 games are and the PC version will be more "mod friendly".

Nobody knows yet, I'm sure we'll be able to mod it, but nobody knows yet.

I'll probably use my 360 controller since its not getting any other use (my 360 died again, so I bought a PS3).
