"Basketball will be coming to your computers this year. Many of you have already seen that NBA 2K9 will be released on the PC on various sites, and I wanted to confirm that. The extra bit of news, however, is that the game will be a XBOX 360 port. It will be released October 21st in PC gaming stores everywhere."

Point being, you don't like PC gaming. We get it. Some people are actually excited by this news believe it or not.

Although I feel the PC version may be a little watered down, but it'll still be worth 20 dollars in my book if the modding pans out. Then it could be worth more than it's 360/ps3 counterpart in more ways that just playing the game.

Dude, I have nothing against PC games, I play quite a few myself. I'm not trying to hurt anyone's enthusiasm or something, I'm just answering some posters, that's all. Anyone who enjoys the game on his PC - have fun and god bless them. I'm happy for people having fun with the game.

I dont have to worry about running many games on the higher settings for a while.

I spent a total of about 700 bucks for the set up. I used my previous hard drive and case as i build my own computers.

You do not need a 300 dollar and up video card.
Well yes you can play anything, but i'm just saying you're not guaranteed the same smoothness or fluidity of the console version since those versions are optimized. From my experience (fwiw i'm running a ATI 4850 & 2.4Ghz Yorkfield) getting the games to run at level equal to the 360 can be hit or miss. I meant around $300 a couple months ago but yeah that was an overshoot, but I was talking about no problems whatsoever maxing settings out. You're right, you could get my card for close to $150 or a better version of it for under $200 and be fine. I'm probably being overzealous.

Personally, I couldn't care less about MODS... well maybe a custom soundtrack mod but what I want the most out of this announcement is for the game to be a GFW Live title so I can still get my Achievements and communicate with gamers on my friends list as well as cross-platform play. I know alot of gamers who dont care at ALL about gaming on their PCs and will pick up the 360 version... I want to be able to play them from time to time. Lastly, Im really excited with the prospect of increasing the games graphical fidelity, possible native 1080p, detail set to high, 4X AA all on a HDMI connection would just be a dream for me with this game. I already have the wireless adaptor so hooking up the 360 controller will be a snap as I play Halo 2 and Shadowrun over Live on the PC now.

Holly cow, amazing news. Still at 20$ I can't shake the feeling that they left some features out, maybe only online stuff if we are lucky, hopefully the core gameplay is intact.

I for one prefer the pc but I did turn the whole experience into a consolish one a little bit, I have it plugged into a plasma tv, double display it's plugged into the monitor as well, and I have a wireless xbox360 connected to the pc so I can play on the tv if I want or one the monitor with mouse&keybord, that's the beauty of the pc: OPTIONS, you can choose anything you want, of course you pay more for that choice but it's much better. I won't even go into the whole mod thing, those babys made Oblivon actually playable, more than that, turned it into goty.

No... their is a difference between a GFW title and a GFW LIVE title. Many games are GFW title but thats just means that they have to meet certain settings/options put in place by MS such as a certain amount of screen resolutions, XBOX 360 controller support etc. That doesn't mean that it supports Live (Achievements, Gamerscore, Friends list, Messages etc). However, if its a GFW Live game (Gears of War, Viva Pinata, Fallout 3, Shadowrun etc) then it WILL support all of the features found in the 360 version so you can add to your Gamerscore and still communicate with gamers on your XBOX Live friends list cross-platform. Now try to follow me here... Even if a game is a GFW LIVE game it still doesn't mean that you can PLAY cross-platform between 360 and PC users (thats a decision made my the devs) but you will still have the ability to communicate with them by sending/receiving messages (voice, text) and still adding to your Gamerscore by getting Achievements.

What Im saying is that I hope that 2K makes the PC version a GFW Live game AND includes cross-platform play with 360 users (which will still have the biggest community of gamers playing this game online) so that all will be well for me and I dont feel isolated from my XBOX Live friends.

it'd also be pretty sweet if you could play the same association on 360 and pc if they're both connected to the internet. idk if that's even possible, but that would be a huge selling point for me

I am fairly unexperienced in the PC gaming department. I used to play Live on PC back in the 99-03' days but I had problems at times with the fluidy of my computer. My biggest problem is playing the game on a 17" computer screen compared to a 46" LCD. Do you guys hook it up to your TV when playing?

I do, I have a Samsung 50" 1080p DLP connected to my PC by HDMI. However, I do realize that MOST people do not and their PCs are in a totally different room than their HDTVs/Consoles. We will find out the specs/features on this version soon (hopefully) but I feel that some gamers here need to really think about this decision carefully before running out and getting the PC version. Their is a lot of factors to consider depending on what your set-up looks like, where most of your friends play and exactly what features/settings will ship with this game.

I follow, but let me ask this: Going off of the box art we can tell it isn't a GFW game, but can it be a GFW LIVE game without the GFW label?

I was happy when I thought this was going to be a port of the PS2 version, knowing that it is the 360 version is fantastic. Accessory whores will be happy about this, mods will make it possible to have every player to be exact to how they are in real life.

Resolutions higher than 1280x720 has me sold! I also have the 360 wireless adapter for my PC, so I can play the game with a 360 controller!

I agree, but for the past year I've had my Next Gen system hooked up to my computer monitor, so playing NBA 2K9 on my PC won't be any different than on a 360 or PS3 for me, other than the visuals of the game being sharper and mods!

Anyone think that these specs could play it?
Vista AMD Athlon 5000+ 2.6ghz
1 GB RAM
NVidia Geforce 8300GS

I know I can't play GTA IV on it..x/

How bout if I upgrade to the 8600 512 MB one?

# 60 Defel @ 09/29/08 09:06 PM
I still think this is too good to be true. It would be awesome just if the current gen version were coming to the PC at all, but for $20? That makes no sense. None of the reasons mused over in this thread make sense.

I need to hear this news from someone other than a 2K forum admin. I refuse to be excited about the $60 version coming to PC.

*shakes with anticipation*
