They added the thundersticks during FTs!

1. Whoa! The shot stick is not needed? You know you don't have to use it correct?

2. Isomotion complaints translated, "I don't know how to use it"

this year live took 2k's play-calling system and made it much better by making it easier to use and made variations within each play so that even if you don't follow the play exactly, there will be other options that arise.
Yea 2K needs to borrow this for next year. Live really stepped their game up when it came to play calling options.

I still hate the fact that (as it seems) 2K doesn't allow us to add/drop plays from a team's playbook when their personnel changes.

Pointless of having Scoring PG plays for the Wizards when Gilbert is out for the season

I'm kind of with DC on this one. You guys are jumping on this dude a bit, but he has some valid points. What he's saying about the commentary is spot on, and I think it ties directly into the overlays issue.

I'm not saying 2k9 doesn't look great. I'll reiterate it just so people don't take what I'm saying out of context: I have a feeling this will be a great game. That having been said, when people complain about the presentation it has to be noted that NBA 2k9 is still playing catch up to NFL 2k5. It really is hard to wrap my head around that in certain areas.

And aholbert, when you say that 95% of sports games have bad commentary, you have to mention that Live is in the 5% with good commentary. 2k is the pretty girl with the great personality and bad breath. We just want her to take a mint! Live is chubby, dumb and lazy, but at least she shows up with some Altoids. We just want 2k to take those Altoids, man.

i know you don't need to use the shot stick, dude...what i'm saying is they should get rid of the shot stick and use the right stick for dribbling moves instead.

# 106 DC @ 09/23/08 12:35 PM
People on these 2K Board seem tog et very offended whenever someone says SOMETHING of Live is better than THAT SOMETHING of 2K. Nobody is saying Live is BETTER or will EVER be BETTER.

2K has a Jordan effect almost. If someone says that Vince was a better flyer than Mike, people jump on that person as if they are saying Vince is BETTER than Mike.

Stop cathcing feelings folks.

But dude is trippin with the shot stick/isomotion complaints.

I don't understand how you can make statements like that. Questioning the developer's decisions when you haven't even played the game yet.
I don't understand how you can't see the same thing when we watched the same videos.

Man.. they kept the terrible commentary formula they have had for years. Please explain why. Rob Jones and someone else from 2K who was interviewed said themselves that "this year, we were really given the opportunity to just improve on all aspects of last year's game" .. ok great, so, they didn't think the commentary needed a serious overhaul? How about the A.I., which still does not have team-specific plays, and has not gotten team-specific tendencies correct yet. Every team runs the same handful of plays. Granted I haven't played the game, but I've watched the videos. The A.I. looks extremely similar to 2K8. I'm hoping for the best but I'm being realistic.

It's so bad, that it sucks the life out of the game. Not to mention it's the same damn script as the past 2 years, when they promised revamped commentary. It's so bad, that the color commentator said "you knew that one was good as soon as it left his hand" on a FREE THROW.

2K presentation producer, what the hell are you thinking?

The game looks STERILE, stale, and like I've played it before. The individual and team A.I. are still nowhere near close to playing like their real-life counterparts. Why don't they add team or coach specific playsets? Watch, try playing Association and tell me that all the teams don't play the same. It's been the same since forever and you know that, yet it's an area they could EASILY improve.

And I'm not trying to bash it, this is what it is to me. I'm a hardcore 2K player, but I can't change what I see.
That really sucks for you. I dont see any of the stuff you see and the replays are so infrequent, they dont bother me at all. Also if commentary is that important to you that it "sucks the life out of a game"....maybe its time to get a new hobby. Like I said most sports games have bad commentary.

I never had a problem with teams playing the same last year and I dont think that will be an issue this year. I played a ton of games last year and never had that problem. I havent seen many people complain about that either. I dont obsess over little things like commentary and I find that I have a lot more fun playing video games than most people here.

I disagree on the A.I. I'm seeing a lot of improvements on the AI. I'm not even going to get specific, but when it comes to the AI I think you need to look a little closer.

You're spot on about the commentary though. Someone from 2k said they felt they gave the commentary a major overhaul and that we'd be really excited about it or some other nonsense. The commentary is ****, and its the exact same **** its been for years. Apparently, they don't know how bad their commentary is and if we want better commentary, we need to tell him.

I don't understand the resistance to that.

I can't argue here. The thing that makes me mad about 2K is the fact that the AI doesn't even USE the plays in a team's playbook. They use plays from the GENERIC playbook.

What is the point of having a TEAM playbook when the AI won't even use THOSE plays. I am with you here man, this is VERY upsetting.

Another feature that College Hoops had correct that NBA 2K refuses to fix.

I'm kind of in between. I thoroughly enjoy the game without commentary, but I've been playing games for a LONG time without commentary, including NFL 2k5. To me, all commentary gets boring after a while so I just turn it off once I start hearing to many repeats.

On another note, is my computer just that terrible, because the vids are choppy for me. Any help?

Yes but even Live's commentary gets old after a few months. Most of you dont know because you havent played that game much in the last few years. I have no problem with people saying that the commentary needs a change but to act as if its an important (game ruining as fluent just said) flaw is ridiculous. Commentary doesnt rate on most casual/hardcore fans top 10 list of wanted features.

As opposed to 2K's gettin old in a few weeks. Hell since we ALREADY have heard the 2K9 commentary for 3 years now it might even be old in a few days.

Typical OS 2K Board, "It ain't that important to me so it shouldn't be important to you so you shouldn't be complaining about it" - defense mechanism

Seriously DC. You know you've never played Live for more than a week anyway.

Again, I feel until you've played the game you can't make those comments.

We'll just leave it at that until the release.

Others have touched upon the commentary... that's known already. Play-calling looks to have more options in Live... only because there is a Logo above more than one guy during a play.

Guys are looking for subtle gameplay enhancements through a video... and they will only see them once they've played the game.

Again, this goes back to my point of 2k being held to a different standard than Live. Those enjoying Live are just happy it's playable and enjoyable. 2k has an entirely different group of overly-obsessive individuals to cater to. It's a lose-lose scenario for 2k.

Man that was a nice little video there, thanks Steve for posting it. Damn this game looks so sweet! I loved 2k8 and know that 2k9 is the only way to go this year as well.

The oop looked nice as well as Arenas getting fouled that was pretty realistic too. Also, Calderon's layup was nice.
