Madden 09 News Post

We have just posted our Madden NFL 09 preview. Although I didn't get any hands on time with the game, there is some good information here.

Quote:
"Ah yes, Madden, the game I was most eager to get my eyes on at EA Sports Vancouver. So no time for intros or idle chit-chat, because this is Madden you guys know the history, so I won’t bore you with those details.

Upon arriving for the Madden festivities Phil Frazier (Senior Producer) and Dale Jackson (Executive Producer) greeted everyone as they walked into the room. The first thing they talked about was the new "Virtual Trainer" mode, where you can play up to 12 different modes in a holographic environment. These modes included the likes of running, passing, rush defense and pass defense drills, and there are three drills within each category to sharpen your Madden skills. Behind the scenes, as you are playing these modes -- and games in general -- there is a system that studies your abilities as a Madden gamer; which leads us to the new Madden IQ."

I'm talking about having a practice squad. Also your guys on injured reserved shouldn't count against or roster and you should be able to place players on IR with a bad injury so you can sign a healthy player to help your team out.

Thanks Steve for asking for us. I am pumped that there is a half-time show this year. I am starting to have hope in this game.

No accelerated clock again, WTF.

Ridiculous.

# 47 TurboTitan @ 05/10/08 12:25 AM
Do they ever give actual reasons that things like accelerated clock are not in the game? I cant fathom a single good reason why it isnt in there..... yet they implemented a feature to be able to re-do a bad play. In any case, thank you for the preview. Did you happen to notice if create-a-player was in or not?

Here's an idea EA, work on your terrible gameplay, than add bells and whistles. If you dress up a turd, it's still a turd.
Co-sign. It's no secret that I truly dislike EA, but there is a legitimate reason for that and I see it happening all over again...HYPE. I don't know about anyone else here, but I'm tired of EA's marketing department being more productive/successful than the Madden devs themselves, and the little sheep that take their word as gospel.

I'm hoping no one falls for their marketing crap this year, but I know better. W/ inflation getting out of control and the economy (in general) shooting bricks, $60 isn't going to be a drop in the bucket like it used to be...

Here's to the Show, NBA 2K8 and other sports game dev's who actually get the job done...

$60 used to be a drop in the bucket??

I am pretty sure they didn't have to invest much time for the Mulligan feature....However the fact that it was EA is promoting it as a new feature certainly indicates who this game is being designed for.

Although I will say that FINALLY we have a game with pregame fireworks. For years I have played video game football, as the experience has been spoiled because the opening kick off has not been preceeded with fireworks ala Atari Soccer. I am excited that '09 will usher in a new era of video game football. PREGAME FIREWORKS!!!!!!

In other words, $60 is valued a little more today than it has been in years past. When you factor in inflation (rising cost of gas & food etc), it makes it a little bit tougher to part with $60 especially for a product that most people would deem unsatisfactory.

I understand what you meant, but to me $60 is $60, but oh well.

What I want is a mulligan feature if I buy this game and it sucks. Can I take my 60 bucks and repurchase and get a good game? That's gotta be one of the craziest things I've ever heard.

Actually, if there are no in game saves, the mulligan feature might keep me from throwing my controller into my TV screen when the CPU miraculously makes some play in the 4th quarter.

I'm big on kicking... afterall it is football. Have they toned down the power of the kicks. It's so easy to kick a touchback that goes into the OTHER fieldgoal post.

Also, have they made it a challenge to make a 40+ kick and DIFFICULT to make a 50+ kick?

# 57 IStillDoWhatIDo @ 05/13/08 09:29 AM
Is random weather back in the game. Nothing greater than having the weather set to random and seeing a nice snow or rain game, RANDOMLY!

# 58 SteelerSpartan @ 05/14/08 01:18 PM
I hope they fixed the coaching ai....and there isn't any punts from the cpu when they are on your 30

That was just another thing that annoys the hell out of me

LOL.

I actually laughed out loud when I read this.

It was kind of strange that game play fell to no better in their priorities than third place. I could understand that if EA had the game play nailed...but I doubt most people feel that way. I think most gamers would always at least feel better if they heard from EA that basic game play was always their top priority.

This "Rewind" feature is an odd one. I can't really imagine many people using something like this. I know myself...I'd feel pretty pathetic if I did. I'm still hopeful for '09' though overall.
