MLB 2K8 News Post

Matt Blumenthal had an opportunity to demo Major League Baseball 2K8 this afternoon. His official writeup of the event will be up later this week, but we wanted to get some quick thoughts up here for you guys.
  • This game looks beautiful, the player models have improved but the real leap is in the animations. The animations move silky smooth and there is no need to worry about herky jerky animations of the past anymore.
  • I'm impressed with how intuitive and fresh the analog controls are. The pitching takes a little time to get the hang of but the new mechanics add a whole new dimension to the pitching model.
  • The baseball cards feature is surprisingly cool, expect me to have more on that later on this week.
  • In-game saves are officially in the game this year.
  • Check swings don't seem to be a chore anymore. They are now accomplished by pulling back on the right analog stick - no more right trigger necessary.
  • Stadium-specific animations are in. The Yankee Roll Call was mentioned specifically.
  • There should be plenty of foul balls this year. I saw several in the few at-bats I played.
  • No spring training games this year.
  • I counted eight unlockable classic stadiums. I think more might be available by default as well.
  • No co-op play
  • You will have the option to make trades for CPU-controlled teams in franchise mode, but you won't be able to edit their rotations and lineups.
  • It was suggested to me that the demo is done and has been submitted. If that's the case, it's in Microsoft's hands now.
  • I will hit on a few of the big questions from the forum here.

It's quite easy actually. If it works like NHL 2K8 then all you have to do is rip a song or songs and then they will be saved under music.

Now, go there and you will see the song under artist. Go and select the song and PLAY it.

Then save the song as a PLAYLIST. The game will only recognize "PLAYLIST" and then insert.

I just want clarification that it did make it from beta to retail before I get all excited..

It wouldn't make sense if they just let us use songs from the games soundtrack.

Other games have done this. The reason why everyone is iffy is cause 2k didn't say a word about this and kush even said it didn't make the game

A lot of design stuff doesn't make sense, which is why I always want "proof".. lol
Remember WSBB not having user fielding? Things happen sometimes man! lol At least we know we're good now! Off work Wednesday so I should get plenty of play time in with both games.

STADIUM BEATS for all other senarios, this means the ones that are in the game. Just like last year.

I think it was called Stadium Beats in MLB2K5 too.2k5 let you add your own music for HR's,inning over etc...

Just curious, how'd 2k5 let you rip your own music on last gen . I had a ps2 and I never heard of Ripping music

So can anybody confirm, is the hitting zone based at all or is it purely swing/don't swing and the computer/timing decides if you hit the ball or not?

Dammit Kiz, stop playing the game and talk to us!!

Just wondering if when you play a franchise game, can you choose to play in any stadium that you like or are you forced to just play the game at the home teams park?

Solid question. Not answered before

You could add your own music for almost everything! You could even have the song play at a certain time.So if the song had a long quiet intro, you could fast forward to the time you want the song to start playing, then set it.

It's such a cool feature.

"Dammit Kiz, stop playing the game and talk to us!!" - pjv31

He was just in the chatroom and nobody bombarded him with questions suprisingly. He didn't stay long and said he was off to bed and then play all night.

It was only for the XBOX version I believe, but it did work well.

So, if the CUSTOM soundtrack inserts are available, then technically one could add a Loud Crowd Cheering "After HR" sound bite? Is this correct? (just in case they got it wrong again)

to anyone who has the game, have you tried to simming a couple of season to see how the franchises are running? and if there are too many FA's or too many unsigned, etc. Thanks in advanced

Yes.But music is better IMO.For some reason the music made the crowd sound louder in 2k5.
