LOS ANGELES–After struggling with turnovers early in the game, the Los Angeles Clippers rebounded to take a halftime lead but needed some late magic from Eric Bledsoe to seal a 92-89 win over the Utah Jazz.

The Clippers turned the ball over 15 times to Utah's one; five early turnovers by Chauncey Billups and Chris Paul helped put the Clippers in a 12-2 hole to start the game. Los Angeles retook the lead with six minutes left in the second quarter, going up by as many as 10 points before more turnovers allowed Utah to tie the game with just over two minutes remaining.

Eric Bledsoe scored 20 points off the bench to pace the Clippers, playing most of the fourth quarter while Billups watched from the bench; Bledsoe's two late free throws put the Clippers up 92-87 and sealed the win. 12 of Bledsoe's points and all six of his assists came during the quarter.

Paul scored 15 points and added six assists in the win, but he and Billups each accounted for five turnovers. Blake Griffin just missed out on a double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling in eight rebounds.

Utah's Mo Williams, playing against his former team, led all scorers with 25 points and added 10 assists for a double-double. Al Jefferson pitched in 18 points and six rebounds, while frontcourt mate Paul Millsap added 14 points and four rebounds.

Alec Burks, making his first career playoff start filling in for the injured Raja Bell, scored 16 points.

Bledsoe led a Clippers bench that outscored the Jazz bench 43-14; behind Bledsoe, Lamar Odom was the second-leading bench scorer, tallying 10 points and six rebounds.

DENVER–At halftime, the Los Angeles Lakers looked to be headed to an easy win in the opening game of their first round matchup with the Denver Nuggets. Danilo Gallinari and Andre Iguodala made sure that didn't happen.

Despite trailing by as many as 18 points at one point, Gallinari and the Nuggets mounted a furious comeback, topping the Lakers 94-90 thanks to a bizarre sequence of events that allowed Denver to seize the lead for good with just over a minute left.

After taking a 25-21 lead to start the game, Denver came out flat in the second quarter. By the time head coach George Karl called timeout, Los Angeles had used a 19-4 run to open a 40-25 lead.

Exiting the timeout, Denver almost immediately turned the ball over, leading to a three-pointer by Metta World Peace that put Denver in a 18-point hole.

From that point, Denver closed the quarter on a 18-8 run, cutting Los Angeles' lead to 51-43 by halftime. After trading baskets with the Lakers in the third quarter, Denver turned the boosters late in the fourth quarter.

Trailing by just two points, 84-82, two unusual, costly fouls by the Lakers allowed the Nuggets to open a 90-84 lead with just over a minute remaining.

Pau Gasol was whistled for defensive three seconds in the key with 1:21 remaining, just the second time this season Gasol had been whistled for that violation. Ty Lawson calmly sank the penalty free throw and added a drive to the basket for an 85-84 lead.

On the ensuing Lakers possession, point guard Chris Duhon had the ball stripped by Andre Iguodala, who recovered it with an open lane to the basket.

Instead, Iguodala was fouled from behind by Metta World Peace, and the clear path foul called gave Iguodala two free throws and the Nuggets the ball. Iguodala made both and Gallinari added his fourth three-pointer of the night to give the Nuggets a 90-84 lead.

"I thought I had a look on the ball," World Peace said. "but (Andre) turned left as I reached. I wrapped him up to avoid tackling him and getting the flagrant. It happens."

Gallinari led all scorers with 26 points, and finished with a team-high 10 rebounds for a double-double. Iguodala slotted in right behind Gallinari with 25 points, eight assists, and four rebounds. Lawson finished with 17 points and seven assists.

Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Antawn Jamison added 13 points and seven rebounds in his first playoff action since 2010. World Peace and Gasol both had 11 points.

OKLAHOMA CITY–Kevin Martin scored 10 of his 15 points in the first quarter as Martin and the Oklahoma City Thunder used a strong first quarter to cruise to a 102-92 victory over the Sacramento Kings in the opening game of their first round matchup.

Oklahoma City opened a 31-21 first quarter lead after starting the game on a 16-2 tear, and a 13-2 spurt in the second quarter led by Josh Childress and Perry Jones gave the Thunder an insurmountable 56-45 halftime lead.

Kevin Durant led the Thunder with 25 points, eight rebounds, and four steals in the victory. Sacramento point guard Aaron Brooks paced the Kings with 24 points, four assists, and four rebounds.

Russell Westbrook chipped in 21 points, seven assists, and three rebounds for Oklahoma City, while Martin added 15 points and three assists against his former team.

Sacramento rookie Thomas Robinson just missed a double-double, accumulating 20 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Robinson's frontcourt teammate DeMarcus Cousins added 16 points and nine rebounds.

Sacramento's bench output was nearly doubled by Oklahoma City, who outscored the Kings bench 34-18. Childress paced the bench with eight points, while Jones, Eric Maynor, and Jeremy Lamb each had seven points.

PHILADELPHIA– Despite opening a 20-point lead at halftime, Philadelphia needed overtime to overcome the Nets after an abysmal fourth quarter, winning 113-109 after a furious comeback by the Nets.

Jrue Holiday and Nick Young helped Philadelphia build a 60-40 lead at halftime, only to see it evaporate during a fourth quarter where Philadelphia shot just 32 percent and was outscored 28-14.

Brooklyn's comeback would be short-lived in the overtime period though as Holiday, who was held scoreless during the entire second half, scored eight of the 76ers' 16 points in the period. Holiday scored the first six points in overtime, building a lead Philadelphia would not relinquish.

Holiday finished with 22 points and 10 assists, his first career postseason double-double. Young scored 13 points for Philadelphia, going a perfect 3-of-3 from the three-point arc.

All five of Brooklyn's starters scored in double figures. They were led by Joe Johnson, who scored a game-high 26 points and tallied five rebounds, five assists, and three blocks.

In addition to Johnson, three starters also tallied double-doubles; Deron Williams scored 19 points and had 13 assists, Kris Humphries had 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Andray Blatche had 18 points and 11 rebounds starting in injured center Brook Lopez's absence. Gerald Wallace also scored 18 points to go along with five assists and four rebounds.

Behind Holiday, Philadelphia had three other starters in score in double figures: Thaddeus Young tallied 14 points and five rebounds, Jason Richardson 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists, and Evan Turner 11 points and six rebounds. In addition, Antonio Daniels scored 13 points and dished out five assists in his first playoff action since 2009.

MIAMI–Miami couldn't stop Monta Ellis, but Milwaukee couldn't stop the Miami Heat, as the Milwaukee Bucks fell 104-100 to the defending-champion Heat in the opening game of the NBA Playoffs.

Ellis scored 41 points and added six assists for the Bucks, but it wasn't enough to top James, who led the Heat with 30 points. Miami used a 30-22 second quarter, fueled by 18 points from the Heat bench, to take a commanding 62-51 lead.

Rashard Lewis and Dwyane Wade each had 14 points for the Heat, while Wade tied Sherron Collins with a team-high seven assists. Chris Bosh also scored 12 points for Miami.

Lewis's 14 points were tops from the Heat bench, which outscored Milwaukee's 42-9. Behind Lewis, Udonis Haslem scored eight points and Melvin Ely scored six points to lead Miami's bench.

Brandon Jennings had his first career playoff double-double, scoring 16 points and dishing out 17 assists in the loss. He nearly had a triple-double, pulling down six rebounds in addition to his other stat totals.

Drew Gooden pitched in 15 points and eight rebounds, while Ersan Ilyasova added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Bucks in the loss.

Game Notes
Quite possibly the most balanced matchup in the first round, Indiana and Chicago finished tied atop the Central Division (although Indiana won the tiebreaker to earn the higher seed). Chicago will need Derrick Rose and Luol Deng to score in bunches to hope topping Paul George and the Pacers, as the low post game for both teams is likely to be shut down by Roy Hibbert and Joakim Noah's defensive prowess. Chicago may prefer to shift defensive assignments to try and stop the mismatch George poses, moving Deng to cover George over Kirk Hinrich, but that still leaves a resurgent Danny Granger able to play another mismatch for Indiana. If George and Granger continue their strong play this year, Chicago may not advance for the second straight year.

Game Notes
Thanks to a bout of mediocrity in the lower part of the Eastern Conference .500 team Atlanta was able to lock up the sixth seed in the East (consider that the sixth seed in the Western Conference, Utah, had 47 wins). Their first round matchup is with the Knicks, who faltered late in the season after losing Iman Shumpert to injury, losing the division to Philadelphia. Shumpert was their defensive linchpin, but the Knicks shouldn't have a problem taking on Atlanta without him; Lou Williams won't be able to drive at will against the larger J.R. Smith and Al Horford will have his hands full with Tyson Chandler. This matchup will come down to each team's small forward-All Stars Josh Smith and Carmelo Anthony; each game will likely be decided by which player scores more.

Game Notes
A matchup of two Atlantic Division teams, Philadelphia and Brooklyn were essentially polar opposites this season. While Philadelphia flourished with the addition of Andrew Bynum, Brooklyn struggled with a new-look lineup in their new-look digs, culminating in a sixth straight losing season. Brooklyn still made the postseason, mostly thanks to several underachieving Eastern Conference teams, but their struggles were compounded by the loss of Brook Lopez, who looks likely to miss the first three games of the series with a bruised foot. Brooklyn will look to their usual suspects to score in Joe Johnson and Deron Williams, but they're going to need Kris Humphries and Andray Blatche to counter Bynum in the early part of this series. If they can't get it done, Philadelphia will ride Bynum and Jrue Holiday to a 3-0 series start and a quick first round win.

Milwaukee essentially snuck into in the NBA Playoffs, thanks to late collapses by the Raptors, Wizards and Pistons. Their prize for making is a first round matchup with the league best Heat. LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and company should make short work of the Bucks in this matchup, even if Ray Allen is shelved for most of this series. Unless Milwaukee gets monster games each night from Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis every night, expect the Heat to win this matchup in four or five games.

Game Notes
Although Dallas is the higher seed by virtue of winning its division, Minnesota seems like the choice to move on in this matchup. Cruising to 46 wins this year, Minnesota got a full season of Ricky Rubio and Brandon Roy, All Star Kevin Love continued to produce at his normal level and center Nikola Pekovic finally came into his own. If Dallas hopes to stick with the Timberwolves in this series, they're going to need O.J. Mayo to continue his rebound season. Mayo averaged a team-leading 22 points a game, finally showing the promise that made him the second pick in the draft five years ago. Dallas is going to need Mayo and Nowitzki to outproduce Love and Pekovic for the Mavericks to be able to top Minnesota in this series.
