Game 94 vs. LAA
The series finale pitted aces Josh Beckett and CJ Wilson against each other. It's safe to say that Beckett came out alive.
This one had the makings of a pitcher's duel throughout the way. However, things started to slip away when Ian Kinsler and Geovany Soto homered.
The Tigers finished the sweep in the 8th with more offense. JD Martinez had a clutch 2 RBI triple, followed by an Adam Jones homer.
The Tigers won 6-1. They move on to host the White Sox.

Game 93 vs. LAA
This win was simply a quality one. The Tigers got past the deception of a struggling Jered Weaver and came away with a win.
The game showed a true team effort, with 12 hits and 5 different guys credited with RBI.
Justin Verlander went deep again, but he gave up 2. He also walked a batter, which he isn't fond of doing.

Game 92 vs. LAA
This game was similar to that phrase you always see on a side-view mirror: things are closer than they appear.
The Tigers had to worry when the Angels came within one after the 6th. They responded, however, in the 7th, when Mark Trumbo homered and Geovany Soto had an RBI single.
The 9th was treacherous from Valverde. He loaded the bases, but no runs scored. Even if there is a save situation, he won't be used. Valverde threw 20 pitches.

Game 91 vs. LAA
Tensions escalated early in this one. Andre Ethier tripled in his 1st at bat; however, the next batter, Adam Jones, was likely intentionally hit in the shoulder.
In the top of the 2nd, Kendry Morales was plunked as well. The Angels ended the inning with a run on a sacrifice fly.
The Tigers continued to score in the second, and Andre Ethier was hit in his arm. That prompted a warning, but the struggling Ervin Santana was ejected.
Long reliever Danys Dallimore saved the Angels' pen by going 6 and 1/3 innings afterward.
Ricky Romero turned in another nice performance; I think he's making the turnaround.

Game 90 @ BAL
After last night's win, the fact that the Tigers started off with 2 in the first was a relief. Oriole starter Dylan Bundy only stuck around for 4 innings, where he gave up 8 runs.
11 runs were scored by the Tigers in the series finale. Michael Morse and Andre Ethier homered. Prince Fielder had 4 RBI, and despite a sac fly, Adam Jones snapped a hit streak.
The Tigers are well-off so far. They have not lost since Miguel Cabrera went out with injury. He should be back in August.

Game 89 @ BAL
The thin air in Baltimore tonight wasn't good news for either side. Josh Beckett gave up a season-high 6 ER on 4 HR; however, a 4 inning, 4 hit bullpen shutout saved Beckett from the impending loss.
Down 6-2, the Tigers scored 2 runs each in the 8th, 9th, and 10th to win. The comeback started with both JD Martinez and Prince Fielder homering. The 6-4 lead prompted Jim Johnson to come out of the bullpen. After an unfortunate error, JJ Hardy tied the game with a 2-run homer.
Jim Johnson tried to salvage a win after the blown save, but things broke down in the 10th. He lost command, hitting Andre Ethier with the bases loaded. Afterwards, Mark Trumbo hit a sacrifice fly, and the Tigers didn't give the lead back.

Game 88 @ BAL
The Tigers were relatively lucky this Friday the 13th. They demolished the Orioles, 17-2. The Tigers started off the game with 15 unanswered runs; Justin Verlander was perfect until the 6th inning, when Wilson Betemit lined a pinch-hit single to right-center. Verlander completed the game for his 17th win.
There were 2 Tigers debuts. JD Martinez both tripled and homered. New Tiger Mark Trumbo added a homer as well. Jordan Walden has yet to make an appearance out of the pen.
Geovany Soto embraced his new role as starting catcher by hitting a bases-loaded double to bring in 3 early.
It was certainly a night to forget for the Orioles.

I'll let the numbers speak for themselves. However, there are a few notes.
Clay Buchholz replaced Scott Baker on the roster.
Batting averages are from this game only.
ERA's were not separated from regular season stats.
Unlike the NL, the AL used all players from the roster; however, Brett Lawrie did not have an AB.

The Tigers traded Marco Scutaro, Scott Downs, and Al Alburquerque to the Astros for JD Martinez, Livan Hernandez, and prospect Ed Davis.
JD Martinez is a better hitter vs. lefties. Scott Downs is aging, and Jordan Walden will get work now. Al Alburquerque was the only talent available to make the trade interesting enough for Houston. Livan Hernandez was a throw in, but our pitchers in the minors are struggling. Ed Davis may develop in the future.
We also shaved more than $8 million from payroll.

Alex Avila's struggles had been frustrating management for a while, so we shopped him. We were surprised to see Angels' closer Jordan Walden available. Some of are relievers are closer to the end of their career than the beginning, so we pulled the trigger.
Andruw Jones hadn't delivered, and he was too power happy. Adam Wilk had a high ERA.
The Tigers traded Alex Avila, Andruw Jones, and Adam Wilk to the Angels for Jordan Walden, Mark Trumbo, and Trevor Bell.
More moves are expected; the bullpen is loaded, and there is no backup catcher.

Game 87 vs. KC
Bruce Chen was no different today. The touch-and-feel lefty struggled mightily against the Tigers. He was finally pulled in the 5th, after he loaded the bases multiple times and once walked in a run.
JJ Hardy had another triple; he is now tied for the league's lead. Ian Kinsler homered twice; one was of the inside-the-park variety.
So, the Tigers got their groove back heading into the All-Star break.
Rumor has it that there will be some moves made before the All-Star game.

Game 86 vs. KC
It all started in the 1st. JJ Hardy's error led to 2 unearned runs that made the difference. This loss really sucks. Verlander picked a bad time to have a bad outing. This was against the Royals!
The Tigers tried to start a rally in the 9th, but failed with Joakim Soria on the mound.

Game 85 vs. KC
I fail to see how the Royals are tied for second in the division. They have poor pitching, so maybe the offense is carrying them.
That strategy didn't work since Jordan Zimmermann on the mound. He had a solid outing, going 8 innings and giving up only 1 run.
Feliple Paulino managed to get through 6 innings, but the Royals bullpen is suffering from the same issues that we saw from Texas last week. They are fatigued.
There were no homers in this game, as Andre Ethier needed one to complete the cycle. Michael Morse had 3 RBI. Miguel Cabrera's hit streak was snapped in the win.
