Game 104 @ BOS
Jon Lester pitched a complete game against his former team. With that, he provided much needed relief to the Detroit Tigers' pen.
Clay Buchholz continues to struggle against the Tigers. This is his second loss against the team. He gave up 8 runs today.
The Tigers' bats stayed alive, with Paul Konerko and Ian Kinsler as the big stars.
Kinsler was 4-4, and a homer shy of the cycle. Konerko was 3-5 with 4 RBI. Will I have to call them the K&K boys? (Just kidding.)

Game 103 @ TOR
Despite the disparity of runs scored, both teams combined for 34 hits!
I bet that neither manager liked the hit total given up, but Jim Leyland will take the win.
Paul Konerko made his Tigers debut. He was 1-6 with a run scored. Felix Doubront also made his Tigers debut. He threw a shutout inning.
The home run ball was the Tigers' friend. Homers from Jones, Trumbo, Kinsler, and Soto accounted for 11 RBI!
Thankfully, the tough series is over. However, the Tigers face the Red Sox up next.

CC Sabathia, Allen Craig, and Livan Hernandez were traded to the Boston Red Sox for Jon Lester, David Ortiz, and Felix Doubront.
We are aware of CC's talent, but he is expensive. Jon Lester is younger, and he comes with fewer expenses.
Allen Craig is underperforming. Although Ortiz is an aging star, he still can pack the punch on offense. Livan Hernandez was the 5th starter at AAA Toledo. Doubront has a bright future.
Then, in a cap move, David Ortiz, Omar Vizquel, and Chris Bootcheck were traded to the White Sox for Paul Konerko and prospect Damaso Ramirez.
Konerko has 2 years left, versus 1 for Ortiz at a slightly cheaper price. Omar Vizquel is 45, and he is doing worse than expected at AAA. Bootcheck is 33, and Damaso Ramirez was a throw-in.

Game 102 @ TOR
This game had the makings of a pitcher's duel before the Tigers went on a power surge in the middle innings.
After the Blue Jays scored their only run, the Tigers teed off for 3 in the 4th and 2 in the 5th. Mark Trumbo, Ian Kinsler, and Andre Ethier homered.
The Tigers still had to go to the bullpen more than they desired. Jordan Zimmermann barely made it to the 6th, and he was pulled with the win intact.

Game 101 @ TOR
Not taking anything away from the Blue Jays, but the Tigers were disadvantaged from the onset. They had just completed numerous trades, and they couldn't fully reap the benefits of their new assets. The trading threw off their rotations, so they called on long reliever Collin Balester to eat innings. He shutout the first 2.
The game's situation was manageable until Matt Guerrier couldn't record an out in the 6th. The Jays scored 3 in the inning.
The Tigers uncharacteristically committed 2 errors, also.
Brett Lawrie won the game with his walkoff home run in the 12th.

The deals didn't stop at Michael Morse.
We found our next closer. It is John Axford! Axford, Manny Parra, and a prospect came our way in exchange for Ricky Romero. Romero was let go, because he was the odd man in our rotation after the CC Sabathia deal. Yes, CC Sabathia.
However, the Sabathia deal came at the highest price. We let go of Prince Fielder. Fielder, of course, was the staple of our offense, but we were inspired of our production without Miguel Cabrera. I see Cabrera's talents in our offense this year at least equal to Fielder.
Also, we now have a great "Big 3" in the rotation, complete with Verlander, Sabathia, and Beckett. Even call it the Big 4. Doug Fister leads the league in wins!
We collected all the "loose pieces left" in order to fill the new need. A DH versus lefties and a platoon 1st baseman. That will now be Edwin Encarnacion.
Toronto will recieve Jose Valverde, Jim Thome and a prospect. Both Valverde and Thome are at the end of contracts. Combined, they were set to make over $8 million. Thome is at the very end of his career. Valverde is being replaced by Axford. Remember, we have Jordan Walden, too. The loss of Valverde won't affect us, since we won't be tapping the bullpen as much.
To tell the truth, I am only worried about the loss of Fielder.
Though much cap room wasn't saved, we are technically younger. The expenses for this season continues to fall. Since there are very few players in the organization with expiring contracts, we should be safe for the next season. We will move some of the minor-league pitchers with expiring deals.

The Tigers budget problem is no secret at all. If the team has hopes of maintaining what it has, then they need to cut costs. As a result, the Tigers got younger with this trade.
The Tigers traded Michael Morse and AA catcher Zach Parker to the Cardinals for Allen Craig and prospects Alan Butler and Rob Wilson.
Morse is likely to exit his prime soon. He is 30 years old. Considering his output, his contract was relatively cheap. However, with the emergence of Mark Trumbo, soon there won't be room for Morse.
Allen Craig can play multiple positions, and the organization lacks bats in the minors. Zach Parker is 31; he has no future. Therefore, Rob Wilson has more upside. The Tigers likely won't struggle without the production of Morse. Miguel Cabrera will be returning to the lineup soon.
Most importantly, $3 million was removed from payroll.

Game 100 @ CLE
When you combine poor pitching and an All-Star caliber lineup, unfortunately (for the Indians), this happens. The Tigers scored 21 runs today.
Each player had at least 2 hits. Ethier, Fielder, and Morse registered 3-hit games. Jones, Kinsler, and Trumbo had 4 hits. In addition to that, Mark Trumbo hit a grand slam and tied a franchise record with 8 RBI.
Additionally, the Tigers basically saw the Indians entire bullpen. 5 relievers followed starter Kevin Slowey (L; 2 1/3 IP, 8 ER).
The Tigers look forward to a 3 game set against the AL East leading Blue Jays.

Game 99 @ CLE
The real story today was the offense. Hunter Pence was 3-5. Ian Kinsler was 4-5, and Mark Trumbo had 2 HR and 5 RBI on his 3 hits. Ryan Flaherty was the only Tiger to not cash in on the 18 hit performance.
Josh Beckett struck out 13, but he only went 6 innings. Daniel Schlereth bridged the gap well by pitching 2 innings of 1 hit ball.
Another easy win puts the Tigers 92-7 on the season.

At less than one week away, the trade deadline is nearing.
We traded the aging, yet AAA productive Manny Ramirez to the Angels for prospect Dave Clark. Clarke is speedy and can play all outfield positions. We expect Ramirez to retire, so this prospect is what we get in return.
Additionally, we traded Craig Counsell and Vladimir Guerrero to the Blue Jays for Omar Vizquel and prospects Cal Blake and Emil Mayer.
One could analyze this deal as Omar Vizquel being the shoo-in because of age, but Vizquel will get Counsell's playing time if we don't ship him. If Vizquel stays through the season, he will surely be called up when rosters expand.. He can still play defense, and we want him to live out his last days in the majors.
Cal Blake is an emerging utility man, and Mayer can end up as a situational lefty. We also slash ~$2 million in payroll, mostly from Guerrero.

Game 98 @ CLE
The first of this three game set showed no signs of trouble for the Tigers. They started out by scoring 7 runs in the 1st 3 innings and never looked back.
Hunter Pence's leadoff triple started the 1st rally. Geovany Soto and Adam Jones homered in the game.
Justin Verlander pitched a complete game.
Asdrubal Cabrera homered in the tough loss. Additionally, the Indians had to use 4 relievers as Justin Masterson only lasted 2 innings. We'll see how the tired bullpen plays out.

Although hitting 1-3 after being called up from AAA Toledo, Miguel Tejada was sent down because of his poor defense. Utility man Ryan Flaherty took his spot in the big leagues. Flaherty will play until JJ Hardy recovers from his oblique injury.
Since I realized that Tejada has little time left, I shipped him to the Oakland A's along with struggling prospect Billy Sadowski for prospects Charles Turner, Wally Kelly, and George Valdez.
Turner plays middle infield and he can bunt. Kelly had an above-average pickoff move for a player in the minors. Valdez is a minors lefty-specialist.
We also slashed ~$1.4 million from payroll.

Game 95 vs. CWS
The long ball was popular for both teams in this one; Alex Rios, Paul Konerko, Adam Jones, and Geovany Soto all went deep.
John Danks cruised along until the 6th, where the Tigers had a 5-run inning.
Doug Fister smoothed things out, eventually getting through the 7th inning. The bullpen held on so that Fister could win his 21st.
