Game 113 vs. NYY

What started as a pitcher's duel quickly changed after the first 3 innings.

Michael Pineda was pulled after a 4-run 3rd. His struggles continue.

Justin Verlander was perfect after 4. He started the 5th by walking Curtis Granderson and then proceeded to recieve a 2-run "Tex" Message.

The Tigers tacked on 2 in the 7th, and the game was never in jeopardy.

Game 110 vs. NYY

Phil Hughes came in struggling, but we eventually learned that he had a chance today. The Tigers struggled with getting their timing down against Hughes.

Ian Kinsler got lucky, hitting his 35th round-tripper in the 4th.

Both teams scored in the 6th. Prince Fielder fought back against his former team, delivering an RBI double in the top of the 6th.

Edwin Encarnacion was nearly benched pre-game, but he played and delivered the game-winning RBI. He laced a double down the right field line.

In the 8th, the Yankees had a chance to cash in. With no outs, there were men at 1st and 2nd. Felix Doubront got out of the jam with a little help from Hunter Pence, who made a diving play to save a run.

John Axford had a 1-2-3 ninth for his 27th save.

Game 109 vs. CLE

Jon Lester was dealing through the 1st 2 innings, striking out 4. He noticed some forearm pain, and left during the inning. (He will miss 1-2 weeks and not go on the DL. Felix Doubront will replace him in the rotation.)

Mark Melancon started a chain of sensational bullpen outings. Combined, 4 pitchers threw 6 and 2/3 innings of no-hit ball. There was one walk. Melancon K'd the side in the 4th.

The bats were there, of course. Hunter Pence extended his hitting streak to 21 straight. Adam Jones was 4-5. Paul Konerko, Mark Trumbo, and JJ Hardy homered.

We finished 78-84. In early September, we were close to the division lead at only 3 games back.

In the Postseason, the Tigers went from the Wild Card play-in game to the World Series Championship! They swept the Pirates.

Padres SS Freddy Sanchez won the Gold Glove for his position. Juan Nicasio was named Texas League Pitcher of the Year.

The Padres AA affiliate (San Antonio Missions) won the championship!

Over the season, we made moves to bank on the future. Pitching is great, but offense will need help.

We are neither buyers or sellers. The team isn't tanking, but we won't be winning the division.

Why I felt like re-building the Padres is a long story. Once again, I have decided to test my GM skills only. I will not play any games (except a couple in Spring Training).

Lots of moves have been made already, but it's too much to be filled in on at once.

Anyways, I'm still sticking with the Tigers dynasty. That's the All-Star lineup I'll play with anytime.

Game 108 vs. CLE

The respective aces for both the Indians and Tigers faced off this afternoon.

Justin Masterson was quickly quieted, and sent away early. He gave up 7 runs in less than 3 innings. Once again, the Tigers ate away on the Indians' bullpen.

The Tigers scored 9 runs. Adam Jones had 3 RBI. He doubled twice and homered. Mark Trumbo added a 2 run home run. JJ Hardy was 3-4.

Justin Verlander pitched 7 innings of shutout ball, striking out 11. The bullpen covered the rest.

Game 107 vs. CLE

The Tigers gladly returned home after a long trip, and they welcomed an easy opponent in the Cleveland Indians.

The Tigers' defense, although not committing an error, helped the Indians score their only 2 runs in the 3rd.

During that inning, the Indians lost Asdrubal Cabrera. He sprained his wrist sliding into 2nd and will be out 1-2 weeks.

There were plenty hits to go around; only Ian Kinsler and Geovany Soto couldn't cash in.

Mark Trumbo and Adam Jones played long ball, and coincidentally, both of their averages are headed north towards .400!

Game 106 @ BOS

This one came down to the wire. When you look back, every run mattered for us.

Early in the game, the Tigers didn't cash in on a bases-loaded situation, and it almost came back to haunt us.

Adrian Gonzalez had all 3 Red Sox RBI. He homered twice.

The Tigers had 3 HR themselves.

Brian Fuentes had a tough Tigers' debut. He gave up the 2nd home run to Gonzalez. John Axford converted his 1st save as a Tiger.

I am skipping out on the stats until the end of the season. With all my trades, it is pointless to put up the league leaders because it wouldn't be a testament to my success anymore.

Anyways, here are the standings through July 31.

Game 105 @ BOS

I'm starting to not feel bad about the moves made at the deadline. Thinking about how we are performing (with Miguel Cabrera on the shelf) makes me feel proud about the rest of the team.

There were some great hitting performances today.
Hunter Pence: 4-6
Andre Ethier: 4-6, GS (20), 6 RBI
Paul Konerko: 3-6
JJ Hardy/Geovany Soto: 4-5 each

And with that, here's to the home stretch. We are turning the calendar over to August, and all the teams will be "stuck" with what they've got.

The Tigers trade Randy Choate and Manny Parra to the A's for Brian Fuentes and prospect George Ennis.

Randy Choate was in the last year of his contract. Brian Fuentes and Randy Choate are practically even in terms of ability. Fuentes has more power, though.

Parra was needed to spike the A's interest, and George Ennis was a throw-in.
