Seahawks Slip by Jaguars 20-14

The Seattle Seahawks fought their way to a victory at CenturyLink Field over a very game Jaguars squad on Sunday afternoon. The Jaguars showed that their 2-0 record many didn't pay much attention to this year may be no fluke. They gave the Seahawks everything they could handle in the first half, and were able to hang on in the 2nd half and keep it close throughout. Russell Wilson had an off day throwing the ball completing less than half of his passes, and throwing his 2nd interception of the season. Marshawn Lynch and the rushing game were able to take some of the pressure however as Lynch rushed for 100 yards for the second time this year, and Christine Michael rushed for his first NFL touchdown. The Seahawks path doesn't get any easier as they now hit the road to take on the Houston Texans Sunday at Reliant Stadium.

Game Notes
This is the first meeting between the two teams since 2009. A 41-0 shutout win for the Seahawks at CenturyLink Field. The Jaguars currently boast 3 former Seahawks on their roster, CB Will Blackmon, S Winston Guy, and RB Justin Forsett

Players to Watch:

Offense:

Justin Forsett - RB: The former Seahawks runner returns to his old stomping grounds. Replacing the injured Maurice Jones-Drew last week he rushed for 136 yards in a win at Oakland.

Defense:

Paul Posluszny - MLB: Posluszny is a tackling machine for Jacksonville, and the anchor of their defense.

Prediction: The upstart Jaguars have started the year 2-0 under former Seahawks coordinator Gus Bradley, and he no doubt will want to continue the momentum in his old stomping grounds, but those two wins were against The Chiefs, and Raiders. This is a big step up in class for the Jaguars, and they will not be able to keep up with the Hawks in this one. Seahawks 34, Jaguars 17

Giants QB Manning suffers broken rib

Giants QB Eil Manning went down in the first half on a hit by Broncos DE Von Miller. Me missed the rest of the game and X-Rays showed that he had fractured a rib. Manning will miss practice this week, and his status for this Sunday's game is in doubt. Manning has not missed a start in his NFL career and is the current leader in consecutive games started.

Geno suffers broken thumb.

It was obviously not a good week to be a New York quarterback as Jets signal caller Geno Smith went down as well with a broken thumb on his throwing hand. Mark Sanchez came in and led the Jets to a stunning upset of the Patriots on Thursday Night leading many to speculate that the Job may be lost for Geno when he returns healthy.

Hawks Use 2nd Half Rally to Stun Niners

Seattle - The Seahawks capitalized on timely turnovers by their defense, and even though they gave up over 500 yards of total offense Sunday night, found a way to rally big in the 2nd half for a 34-26 win over the rival 49ers. Trailing by 13 entering half the Seahawks got a boost with a big kickoff return by Percy Harvin to open up the half. After settling for a field goal, the Seahawks defense forced a Frank Gore fumble, one of two on the day for the 49ers running back. Russell Wilson was able to quickly then find his tight end Zach Miller for one of his 3 touchdown passes on the night, and suddenly Seattle found themselves right back in it, despite getting dominated on the ground by San Francisco. Frank Gore rushed for over 200 yards in this one, but after his 2nd fumble, Coach Jim Harbaugh sat the back down despite his big night. The 49ers could not punch the ball in the end zone in the 2nd half instead settling for 2 field goals to push the lead back in their favor, but then it was Percy Harvin time. The prized acquisition of the off-season for Seattle paid huge dividends in this one as Wilson found him for a 43 yard catch and run for a TD, showing off the skills that made Seattle give up a first and third round pick for the receiver, and giving the Hawks their first lead of the game with less than 2 minutes to go. The Niners couldn't rally, and they ended up leaving Seattle empty handed once again. The Seahawks stay at home this week and host the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday at CenturyLink Field.

Game Notes
The two teams split their two meetings last year, each winning at home. a 13-6 win for San Francisco, and a 42-13 win for Seattle.

Players to Watch:

Offense:

Colin Kaepernick - QB: The 49ers flamboyant QB burst onto the scene in the 2nd half of last season and led his team all the way to a Super Bowl berth. He did struggle against the Seahawks however in his only game against them last season.

Defense:

Patrick Willis - MLB: Patrick Willis is the gold standard at the position in the NFL. The veteran has yet to lose a step and is still the main focus for any offensive gameplan.

Prediction: The 49ers are going to come to CenturyLink poised for revenge for the drubbing the Seahawks gave them last year. This game will not look anything like that one, but the 12th man has been waiting for this game all offseason, and their energy should give the Hawks just enough to squeak out the win in this one. Seahawks 26, 49ers 23

Bobby Wagner injury will cost him a couple weeks:

In the 2nd Quarter of Seattle's win on Sunday LB Bobby Wagner suffered a gruesome looking dislocated elbow. An MRI today revealed that there was no ligament damage however, and the injury should only sideline him a couple weeks. Here's a look at other notable injuries from the weekend:

Joe Haden - CB, Browns: An MRI revealed a slight tear in the abdomen for Haden, he will be out 3-4 weeks.

Rashard Mendenhall - RB, Cardinals: An MRI revealed a slight hamstring tear for Mendenhall, he will be out 4-6 weeks.

Jonathan Babineaux - DE, Falcons: X-Rays revealed a slight fracture in the forearm for Babineaux, he will miss 3-4 weeks.

Ezekiel Ansah - DE, Lions: Ansah suffered a broken thumb on Sunday that will require surgery. He will miss 3-4 weeks.

Rob Gronkowski - TE, Patriots: Gronkowski suffered yet another setback on Sunday when he suffered a dislocated knee cap. An MRI revealed no ligament damage however, and he should only miss 3-4 weeks.

Seahawks roll Panthers 37-13

Charlotte - The Seahawks ran for 267 yards as a team, Marshawn Lynch found then endzone 3 times by himself, and the Seahawks cruised to an opening day victory on the road at Bank of America Stadium. The Panthers defense which ranked in the Top 10 against the run last year had no answer for the constant pounding delivered by the Seahawks. They ran the ball a total of 38 times posting an impressive 7.0 yards per carry clip. The Panthers also were able to do some things on the ground, but the Seahawks defense was able to hold before they got in scoring range most of the day. Cam Newton could not get the pass attack going at all against Seattle's stout secondary, and the Panthers had trouble putting points on the board. Next up for Seattle is the huge showdown with San Francisco Sunday Night at CenturyLink Field.

It may be the most anticipated season in Seahawks history, and the wait is finally over. The Seahawks travel to Charlotte this week to take on the upstart Carolina Panthers, who no doubt would love to kick off their 2013 campaign with a win over one of the favorites in the conference.

Game Notes
The Seahawks defeated the Panthers 16-12 last year at Bank of America Stadium. The Panthers defense was able to pick off Russell Wilson twice in that game which was a season high for Wilson. The Seahawks held Carolina to only 190 total yards in that mathcup.

Players to Watch

Offense:

Cam Newton - QB: The Panthers electric QB needs little introduction. He is a former Heisman Trophy winner, and can hurt you just as bad with his arm as he can with his legs.

Defense:

Luke Kuechly - ILB: Kuechly bursted onto the scene last year leading all rookies in tackles. Seahawks rookie Bobby Wagner finished 2nd. He will be all over the Field on Sunday.

Prediction: Season openers are always tough to call, you never really know how a teams 1st stringers will look in a real game until they take the field in this one. On paper though the Hawks just have more talent than the young Panthers, and should take this one on the road. Seahawks 31, Panthers 21

Seahawks Hope 2013 is Super

Seattle - Boasting what could arguably be the most talented roster in team history, expectations for the 2013 edition of the Seattle Seahawks could not be higher. After a torrid 2nd half that saw Rookie QB Russell Wilson lead his team all the way to the divisional playoffs before a heartbreaking loss to Atlanta, the Hawks are fully motivated to make sure this season ends with a victory, and the only way to accomplish that is to hoist the Lombardi trophy.

It's not often that a week 2 matchup is deemed as the key matchup for one's season, but few would argue that the showdown that is expected to take place at CenturyLink field on this Sunday night is anything but that. The 49ers will be looking to atone for the 42-13 drubbing they suffered in Seattle last year, while the Seahawks will want to establish that they are now the top team in the NFC, and that last year's beatdown was no fluke. This will be one of the biggest games in the entire NFL this season.

Preseason Power Rankings:

Here's a look at how the entire NFL is shaping up this off-season, and who some of the Seahawks main competition might be in their quest for a Super Bowl championship.

Huskies jump one spot

The upset by Utah over USC on Saturday allowed the Huskies to move up one more spot to #4 in this weeks BCS standings. The highest mark the Huskies have hit in the rankings since the 2001 season. It is important for a couple reasons, the main one right now being that the higher BCS ranked team gets to host the PAC-12 Championship game should there be a tie. Right now the Huskies hold that edge over USC.

Huskies pull away in 4th for 28-14 win

Seattle - Another game that was ugly at times for the Dawgs, but again they found a way to pull it out in the 2nd half, as this time it was the arm of Keith Price that willed the Huskies to a win over a game Golden Bears squad. After two straight weeks of not finding the end zone Keith Price connected early with Kasen Williams for a 15 Yd strike that opened the flood gates. Price would go on to fire 2 more scores for a 3 TD effort on top of his 300 yards that would help the Dawgs stay on top of the PAC-12 North. The Huskies now have a week off to prepare for Colorado in 2 weeks at Husky Stadium.

BCS STANDINGS RELEASED

Huskies check in 5th in seasons first look at bowl rankings

All of the Top 10 upsets last week catapulted the Dawgs to a place few imagined when the season started, a Top 5 BCS ranking, and now the thoughts of Roses, have morphed into thoughts of a possible National Title appearance if a few things break their way. It would take some upsets in front of them sure, but after this past Saturday it has been proven that no team is safe in College Football. It would also take a win over (presumeably) USC in a PAC-12 title game, and one of the SEC teams ahead of them to have 2 losses going into their title game. Again it's along shot, but at the very least you can say right now the Huskies control their own destiny to a BCS appearance at the end of the year.

DESERT SURVIVAL

Huskies outlast Sun Devils in Tempe 26-21

Tempe - It wasn't always pretty, but once again the Huskies managed to find a way to win, and keep their Rose Bowl hopes alive and well with a win on the road. The Huskies seemed to be moving the ball well on the Sun Devils throughout the evening, but could not make headway into the endzone as they settled for four FG's from Travis Coons who luckily was accurate on his kicks all game long. Things got sweaty for the Dawgs in the 3rd when a Taylor Kelly TD pass cut the lead to 16-14, and seemingly gave the Sun Devils a jolt of momentum, but the Huskies scored 10 straight after that to stretch the lead enough to survive a late game rally. The Huskies will stay on Top in the PAC-12 North standings, and will now travel home for two straight against some of their conferences lesser foes, starting with California at home on Saturday.
