Falcons lose Jones to injury

The Atlanta Falcons lost one of their star receivers this week to a knee injury. The hope now is that Jones can return for the playoffs, but he will definitely be out the next few weeks.

SHOOTOUT IN SEATTLE

Seahawks outlast Saints in OT thriller, 43-37

Seattle - The Seahawks sure like keeping it interesting. Seattle went to OT for the third time this year, and for the third time came out victorious as they out-lasted the Saints on Monday Night Football 43-37. Drew Brees and the Saints could not run the ball at all against the Seahawks, and they abandoned it early, but Drew Brees threw for a single game NFL record 561 yards passing, but on his last pass in OT, Jeron Johnson stripped Darren Sproles, and Richard Sherman returned it for a TD. Just like that the Seahawks kept their perfect season alive, and dashed the playoff hopes of the Saints. With a playoff position in hand, the Seahawks now travel to San Francisco, where a win will net them the division crown and most likely Home-Field advantage in the playoffs.

Drew Brees - QB: Not often that the player of the game comes from the losing team, but Brees' 561 yards and 4 TD are impossible to ignore in this one.

For the first time since the famous "Beast Quake" in Seattle, the New Orleans Saints travel to Seattle to face the Seahawks. The two teams are now in different places than their fateful January night of two years ago, with the Seahawks dominant, and the Saints fighting for their playoff lives. This should be a good one Monday Night.

Game Notes
This is the first game between the two teams since the famous "Beast Quake" game between the two teams in the 2010 playoffs. All time the series is tied 6-6 between them.

Players to Watch:

Offense:

Drew Brees - QB: The year older Brees is still an elite passer in this league. It will be a test of how far the Hawks defense has come that has struggled this season to stop teams moving the ball.

Defense:

Jonathan Vilma - MLB: The veteran is now two years removed from the bounty gate scandal, but even though he's a step slower, he still is the anchor for this Saints defense

Prediction: The Seahawks clinch a playoff spot with a win, while the Saints are fighting for their playoff lives needing to win out to have any chance. This game will be much like the playoff match-up two years ago, and the result should be close to the same.

Snyder Warns of changes

Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder told reporters after the game Sunday, that despite two straight losses, he expects his team to be in the playoffs this year. "The expectation is for this team to make the playoffs, and if it doesn't happen then we'll have to look at making some changes at every level of the organization. We're not here to go backwards." Ominous words indeed, the Redskins have a tough road to go at 5-6 they may have to win out to make the post-season.

Seahawks Defense Stuffs Vikings

Seattle - The Seahawks turned in their best defensive performance of the season on Sunday, spelling bad news for the rest of the NFL that still hopes to knock them off this year. Seattle held the Minnesota Vikings to just 214 yards of total offense on Sunday, and only 82 yards passing from Christian Ponder in a 20-10 win at CenturyLink Field. The Seahawks total defense numbers didn't look too hot coming in, although a lot of that was attributed to garbage time pile ups by teams, but none the less the Seahawks defense has been considered a little soft at times this year, but they cast doubt on that Sunday and returned to the defense of old that we are used to seeing on Sunday's from this team. They now finally get a week off, and then an extended week before facing the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football, in two weeks at the CLink.

Game Notes
The Seahawks lead the all time series against the Vikings 7-5. They last met at this same field last season, a 30-20 win for the Seahawks.

Players to Watch:

Offense:

Adrian Peterson - RB: No doubt about this pick. Peterson came within 9 yards of breaking the all time single season rushing record last year, and is having another stellar season this year. The Seahawks, like any other team, will have their hands full all day with AP.

Defense:

Jared Allen - DE: Even though he's getting up there in age, Jared Allen is still an elite pass rusher in the NFL. A key match-up on the day will be Russell okung against Allen.

Prediction: The Seahawks are coming back off an emotional victory across the country, but that shouldn't slow them down in this one. Even when Peterson rushed for 180 against them last season, the Hawks still found a way to win comfortably. This one shouldn't be much different.

Seahawks lose Lane

Seahawks nickel back Jeremy Lane suffered a fractured clavicle in Sunday's game in Atlanta, the Seahawks are not putting Lane on the IR as of now, and hope to get him back for the playoffs.

Seahawks Survive in OT

Atlanta - The Seahawks were able to overcome Russell Wilson's worst start as a pro, as he completed just 11 of 24 passes for 116 yards, and also threw three picks, but Seattle was able to get three interception of their own, including two in the red zone to kill Atlanta drives, and the Seahawks kept their season alive with a 16-13 win in overtime in Atlanta. Marshawn Lynch posted another 100+ yard day boosting his league leading rushing total to 1,287 yards. he is now on pace for 2,059 yards this season which would make him just the 8th back ever to eclipse the 2,000 yard total in a year. Coming up next week is the man who accomplished that feat just last year as Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings make their way to CenturyLink Field this Sunday.

This week the Seattle Seahawks return to their 2012 house of horrors as they visit the Georgia Dome where their season ended in heartbreak last year in the Divisional Playoffs. They will be facing a re-vamped Atlanta running game with familiar foe Steven Jackson now on the Atlanta Falcons after leaving St. Louis in the off-season.

Game Notes
First meeting since last year's divisional playoff that Atlanta won 30-28 at the gun. Seattle leads the all-time series over Atlanta 8-6, but have lost the last 4. Their last regular season meeting was in 2011, also a 30-28 win for Atlanta.

Players to Watch:

Offense:

Tony Gonzalez - TE: The long time veteran and first ballot hall of famer was the one who was able to break open on the Falcons last second drive last year to get them into range for their game winning Field Goal.

Defense:

Asante Samuel - CB: The Falcons defense has been considered a question mark by some pundits this year, however Samuel is one of the better corners in the game, and with Harvin out the Seahawks wide recievers may have a tough day getting open.

Prediction: The Seahawks will tell you all week that this is just another game, but believe that this one has been circled on the calendar for a while. It wont be easy, but the Seahawks will be looking to put another ghost of 2012 behind them and avenge last year's devastating playoff loss.

Hawks thump Bucs 33-9

Seattle - The Seahawks continued to fly high on Sunday as they rode the best performace by their defense so far this year, and then hit the throttle on the offense in the second half for a convincing 33-9 beatdown of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Seattle defense forced a season high 5 turnovers, including the first interception of the season by All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman, who had no problem letting his rival Darrelle Revis know about it either. Marshawn Lynch was held in check in the first half before busting out in the 2nd half, to record another 100 yard game, and keep his march towards 2,000 yards alive. The Seahawks will ride this wave of momentum into the Georgia Dome now to take on the team the defeated them in the playoffs last season, the Atlanta Falcons.

Game Notes
Seattle leads the all-time series between the two expansion partners 7-4. The Seahawks first ever franchise win was a 13-10 win over the Buccaneers at the Kingdome. They last played in 2010 at Raymond James Stadium. a 38-15 beat down for the Bucs.

Players to Watch:

Offense:

Doug Martin - RB:The second year runner burst onto the scene for the Buccaneers in his rookie year quickly establishing himself as one of the best young backs in the league.

Defense:

Darrelle Revis - CB: Not much needs to be said about Revis, he is arguably the best shutdown corner in the league, and he has done plenty of arguing with Seahawks CB Richard Sherman about the manner.

Prediction: The Bucs have shown that they are much improved this year, and will no doubt provide more of a test for the Seahawks than their last two games, but the 12th man should rise up, and spur the Hawks to victory one more time in this magical seasonSeahawks 31, Bucs 23
