Coughlin hangs it up

After a stellar career that includes two super bowl championships on it, the Giants coach said that this year would be his last after the Giants failed on the last day of the season to reach the playoffs. Coughlin said he had come up with the decision "about a month ago" but did not want any announcement to distract his team from their playoff push. Coughlin finishes his 18 year career with a record of 160-131-1, with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and New York Giants, and 2 Super Bowl Titles with the Giants in 2007, and 2011.

Seahawks bury Rams to clinch Home Field advantage in playoffs
Seattle - The Seahawks officially do not have to leave Seattle, unless they plan on making a trip to this years Super Bowl. As they routed the lowly St. Louis Rams 38-6 on Sunday to secure home field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. The Seahawks defense intercepted Sam Bradford three times, and held the Rams to just 28 yards rushing, in allowing the Rams to only score 6 points in this one. The improved play by the defense is something that has to give opponents concern as these playoffs start, albeit against lower competition in the Rams and Cardinals, maybe the two worst teams in the league. The Seahawks of course now have a bye week to watch the wild card round play out before seeing who their opponent will be in the divisional playoff in two weeks.

Russell Wilson - QB: Wilson again was efficient throwing the ball, but it was his big 44 yard run on a read option play in the 3rd Quarter that sealed the win for Seattle in this game.

The Seahawks close out the regular season on Sunday, with playoff implications still on the line as they host the St. Louis Rams at CenturyLink Field. Everything from home field advantage to going on the road as a wild card is in play depending on the outcomes of Sunday's games. So expect the starters to go all out in this one.

Players to Watch:
Offense:

Tavon Austin - WR: Tavon is really the only offensive weapon the Rams have. Their backfield has been decimated by injuries, rendering the Rams running game useless, and all signs point to St. Louis throwing a lot in this game.
Defense:

Alec Ogletree - OLB: The Rams young rookie has been very impressive on the season racking up 128 tackles so far, good for 2nd on the team.
Prediction: The fact that there are playoff implications on the line still does not bode well for St. Louis. The Hawks will have their starters in the game and playing hard to make sure the road to the Super Bowl for the NFC has to come through CenturyLink Field. With that as a motivating factor, expect the Seahawks to be their dominant selves.

Texans lose Cushing

In a huge blow for their Super Bowl hopes the Houston Texans lost Pro Bowl linebacker Brian Cushing to a torn achilles in Sunday's win over the Denver Broncos.
Welker breaks receiving record

In that same game wide receiver Wes Welker racked up 130 yards to eclipse Calvin Johnson's single season receving record. Welker now stands at 2,061 yards receiving with one game left to go in the season.

Seahawks rout the hapless Cardinals 48-10
Seattle - It was a game that went just how you would think when you look at the two teams records, as the Seahawks jumped out early, and the Cardinals could do nothing on offense as Seattle cruised to an easy win at CenturyLink Field on Sunday. The starters for the Seahawks were out of the game midway thru the 3rd quarter as the game was already well decided, but the backups decided to get in on the act as well as Tarvaris Jackson connected on a touchdown pass to Robert Turbin that pushed the lead all the way out to 45-3 at one point in this drubbing. The Cardinals simply had no shot, and to make matters worse their starting QB Carson Palmer went down early in the 4th Quarter with a shoulder injury. It was just that kind of day for Arizona who got beat up mercilessly thru 3 quarters before the Hawks finally let off the gas. The Hawks will now host the St. Louis Rams in their season finale, needing a win to secure an NFC West championship, and Home Field advantage in the NFC Playoffs.

Two teams going in completely opposite directions meet at CenturyLink Field as the Seattle Seahawks take on the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday. The Cardinals have had a dreadfully bad season recording just one win on the year, and only the winless Raiders to thank for not being the worst team in the NFL.

Players to Watch:
Offense:

Michael Floyd - WR: Floyd is getting this designation by default. With Fitzgerald out with injury there is nothing threatening about this offense at all, so we'll pick the guy replacing Fitz as the guy to keep an eye on.
Defense:

Patrick Peterson - CB: If the Cardinals have any chance of keeping this close, then their defense is going to have to create some turnovers, and probably score a defensive touchdown or two. Peterson is their best bet to do that.
Prediction: The Cardinals are bad enough as it is. Now with their best player on the injured list, this game has disaster written all over it. In all honesty it'd be a miracle if the Cardinals keep this within two touchdowns, but I don't see it happening. This game will be nothing short of an annihilation.

East Rutherford - Any thought that the Seattle Seahawks may be a little groggy after suffering their first loss of the season went right out the window on Sunday. Seattle dominated in all three phases of the game, and wiped out the Giants at Metlife Stadium on Sunday 45-17. The Giants defense could not get anything going on Seattle, only finding the end zone with their first drive of the second half. Other than that the game was played in the middle of the field much of the day for the Giants offense. Meanwhile Russell Wilson was as efficient as he has been all season connecting on 18 of his 22 passes and tossing two touchdowns while not throwing an interception. The Seahawks now travel home to face the lowly Arizona Cardinals, and if the Seahawks can take care of business, then they wont have to leave the cozy confines of CenturyLink Field again unless they punch a ticket back to Metlife Stadium for Super Bowl XLVIII.

After suffering their first loss of the season, the Seattle Seahawks take to the road again to take on the New York Giants, who are now all of the sudden battling for their playoff lives after a loss last week. Both teams will have tons to play for, as the Seahawks are trying to hold off the Eagles and 49ers for Home-Field advantage, and a first round bye.

Players to Watch:
Offense:

Victor Cruz - WR: The Giants all-world receiver will be a good test for a Seahawks pass defense that has struggled this season. Richard Sherman, and Brandon Browner will need to be in his hip pocket all game if they want to keep him from salsa dancing all over the Seahawks in this one.
Defense:

Justin Tuck - DE: Tuck just signed a new 4yr/31.2 million dollar deal this week, and he's going to want to show the Giants that he was worth every penny. Russell Okung will have his hands full with the dynamic pass rusher all day.
Prediction: Both teams have a lot to play for in this one. The Giants are fighting for their playoff lives, and even though the Seahawks just suffered their first lost last week, they are all of the sudden in a dog fight for the division crown. This is going to be a battle all game long, but at the end of the day, the better team should prevail, and the Giants palyoff hopes may be dashed as a result

Turnovers doom Hawks as they suffer first loss of season, 27-13
San Francisco - The '72 Dolphins are popping champagne one more time. The Seattle Seahawks dream of a perfect season ended on Sunday at the hands of their arch-rivals, as they couldn't overcome 4 turnovers in a 27-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Russell Wilson threw 2 interceptions, and the 49ers also forced two fumbles, as every time the Seahawks seemed to get some momentum the 49ers would take the ball away. On the other side of the ball the 49ers rushing attack was able to carve up the Hawks for 194 yards, 125 of those by back up running back LaMichael James. Although the Hawks shot at a perfect season is now over, by no means is the sky falling for this team. They still have the inside track on home-field in the playoffs, and a great shot to make the path to the Super Bowl run through CenturyLink Field. For now though they'll have to figure out how to get back on track as another tough road test lies ahead in a trip across country to take on the New York Giants at Metlife Stadium next Sunday awaits.

The hottest rivalry in the NFL gets renewed on Sunday, as the Seattle Seahawks travel to take on their arch-nemesis, the San Francisco 49ers. This will be the final time the Seahawks play at Candlestick Park as the 49ers will be moving into their brand new stadium in Santa Clara next season.

Players to Watch:
Offense:

LaMichael James - RB: With the status of Frank Gore in doubt, it's going to be up to the young back to take as much pressure off of Colin Kaepernick in this game. How he performs will greatly determine how this game plays out.
Defense:

Patrick Willis - MLB: Not much changes here. Willis is still the main man in the middle for the 49ers, and the Seahawks will need to know where he is at all times on Sunday.
Prediction: Seattle has a couple tough tests the next two weeks, on the road against two teams that right now look like they will be in the playoffs. It will be the last hurdle for them to clear in their quest for perfection. Most pundits have them losing one of these next two, but I have maintained for a while now that I will not pick against this team until I see that someone can beat them. This wont be easy, but none the less....
